Quittance were fantastically helpful with the purchase of my new flat. Recommended!
We had a good experience with Quittance…
We had a good experience with Quittance Legal Services.
We bought a new-build commercial property which was quite complicated as it included a leaseback. We contacted various firms before we found Quittance, none of whom could assist because they all said they couldn't deal with property lets.
Quittance assigned us to a specialist holiday buy-to-let solicitor on their solicitor panel. There was a lot of back and forth with the developer. It took quite a lot longer than we expected due to hold ups on the developer's side. We bought the property during COVID and the developer wanted to delay. The developer then said the construction costs had increased and at one stage we thought it would all fall through.
Quittance and their panel solicitor chased the developer constantly and together pushed our purchase through. Our solicitor was always on top of things and certainly earned his fees.
We now own and let the property and we are delighted with how things have turned out in the end.
NOT ACTUALLY SOLICITORS, THESE ARE SCAMMERS
I chose Quittance Legal Services for my conveyancing because:
1) they were local (based in Croydon)
2) their website promised they would take calls even on the weekends (which is very important for me, since I don't work from home and I can't make personal phone calls from the workplace), and
3) they seemed to have good enough reviews on the internet.
When I agreed to instruct Quittance, by some sleight of hand they 'magically' switched places with 'Homeward Legal', and then they switched places once more and I found myself stuck with the awful 'Alexander Grace Law', a solicitor firm that:
1) is based in *Blackpool* WHICH IS 380 KM AWAY
2) does not have a working phone (during the following 12 nightmarish months of my still-unresolved conveyancing they have NEVER ONCE picked up their phone, not in the weekends, not in the weekdays, NEVER, and they HAVE NEVER EVEN BOTHERED REPLYING VOICEMAILS)
3) have awful reviews on the internet.
My allocated solicitor was worse than a ghost (it took 3 weeks only for her to confirm to the seller's solicitor that she had indeed been instructed by me for the conveyancing, and that was only the beginning of a never-ending series of unnecessary, unexplained delays).
Since then, it never got better. I had to chase them for weeks only to get them to answer to emails. I had to compile lists of documents and questions for the seller's solicitor myself, because my solicitor simply wouldn't do it, and since I'm not a solicitor (that was kind of the point when I chose to instruct one), I found out later, after completion, that I have missed some very important documents that OF COURSE my solicitor would know were necessary... if only they could be bothered to do their job.
Alexander Grace Law have not helped my conveyancing at all: on the contrary, they have actively hindered my conveyancing every step of the way, and there was even a point when the seller almost pulled out because of all the delays caused by my solicitor.
Now it's been over 8 months since completion, and I still haven't received my post-completion documents, despite chasing it up with them multiple times. My guess is, they've got their money and that's it for them.
If you need a solicitor for your conveyancing, do yourself a favour and STAY CLEAR of:
- Quittance Legal Services
- Homeward Legal
- Alexander Grace Law.
Choose someone else. Literally anyone else can do a better job!
