Very disappointed first-time customer

Very disappointed first-time customer of QuickBooks. (refund and support status at the end of this review)

I signed up for QuickBooks Online to use it for MTD in the UK. After about an hour of use and integrating my banking apps, it felt very complex. Basic features like multi-currency support were missing from "Simple Start" plan, and amounts in other currencies were displayed as GBP in QuickBooks, which is completely misleading - it's one thing that currency support is missing and a totally different thing when it shows the same amount in a different currency.

I run a one-person self-employed company and cannot afford £40 per month for simple accounting software.

Support was nowhere to be found. Even after trying to contact them, nothing worked.

This tool might be suitable for large companies but it completely falls short for small companies.

I have since switched to Xero and that works well. Multi-currency support is still not possible but it doesn't mislead you with incorrect numbers. The software itself is much easier to learn and use than QB.

REFUND:

After using their refund form twice, I haven't received any response. It's been 15 days. There is complete radio silence from QuickBooks. No response from support either. Very disappointed. Their sales team on the other hand is always available with a few clicks away, and even their contact number is displayed in large digits at the top of their website. Very embarrassing.

I opened a dispute with my bank and they quickly processed a refund for me which I'm thankful for.

This company has scammed me

This company has scammed me. I was told I was able to get a refund request and that it would take 10 days, as I signed up to the UK site instead of the US one. It has now been 8 weeks with no actual information regarding my request. They are ignoring my emails and I don't know how to get hold of anyone from support to actually give me information on this request.

0/10 – Expensive, frustrating, and completely inadequate support

I signed up to QuickBooks this year after being forced by HMRC to go digital. While I’ve managed to teach myself most of the system, I booked their “complimentary” one-to-one support call to properly understand a few key areas.

What followed was a complete waste of time.

The call came 35 minutes late, and the advisor could barely communicate in English. It was extremely difficult to explain anything, and it quickly became obvious they had little to no understanding of the UK tax system.

I asked to be transferred, expecting better. The second advisor was just as ineffective.

So the “support” offering is essentially pointless.

I then emailed to explain I still needed help — and received no response whatsoever.

At this point, it genuinely makes you question what’s going on behind the scenes. The platform presents as polished and professional on the surface, but the support experience suggests a very poor backend operation. It doesn’t inspire confidence — especially when you’re trusting them with sensitive financial data.

For a product you pay a premium for, this level of service is unacceptable. You’re effectively paying to be passed to an overseas call centre that cannot properly support UK users.

If you’re confident figuring everything out alone, you might cope. If you actually need support, don’t expect it.

QuickBooks used to be good- until they forgot to Include MTD for Corporation Tax!

QuickBooks used to be the best thing since sliced bread. That was until they decided not to bother integrating the software with MTD for Corporation Tax which the vast majority of its small business user base need.
Despite contacting them on numerous occasions, I have still not received a response to this debacle. Now, not only do we have to pay Pay ridiculously inflated Subscriptions every month, we also have to pay for another subscription to provider that is recognised by HMRC to do MTD Corporation Tax.

What’s gone wrong at QuickBooks?
You have millions of pounds to spend on advertising. However, Customer Service and executive team don’t seem to want to hear from customers. I have tried but no one ever bothered to respond.
It’s a shame, but all good things must come to an end and Intuit have dug their own grave and this just puts the topsoil on it.
Maybe, if you actually gave everyone the option to do HMRC MTD Corporation Tax returns like you do for your accountants then maybe you can redeem yourselves. Over £750 a year and missing out the most important thing we need is nothing short of a disgrace. Haven’t you heard of loyalty? It’s built and earned. However you have destroyed it ,so come on and fix the problem before you become the biggest misselling scandal since PPI.

Brilliant support

Brilliant support, and they were able to talk me through payroll. This has saved me about £600 a year net. Kush is excellent and an asset to the on boarding team.

Really happy to review this company as…

Really happy to review this company as they've showed up for me more than once. Compare the customer service to most other accounting software and in my opinion - they win hands down. I have always been able to speak to a human within a few minutes of ringing. Their customer service is second to none. Thank you QB - don't ever change.

happy customer for 8 years UNTIL they lost ALL my data…

I've been a happy customer for 8 years, and this last couple of weeks have been a nightmare. They've "upgraded" me from Self-Employed to Sole Trader and lost ALL 8 years of my data. They're refusing more than 11 days of read-only access to my old account. They're investigating, but based on what was said on the phone, I'll have to start all over again.

absolutely appalling customer service

absolutely appalling customer service. i have a simple technical issue on invoicing that has been sitting with QB second line team for weeks. Have chased several times as it is causing me a serious business issue. Every time I ring I get one response "you cannot speak to the 2ndd line team, you cannot escalate further, it is being resolved". In other words, nadder!!!
