DO NOT USE.

MAN. I used the QR generator to create flyers for an event... the code works at first.. it wasn't until I arrived at the event with my flyers that I realized there's a subscription required for the QR code to actually work. So predatory and just gross, really.

The codes can be generated for free elsewhere. This service a redirect system to make users pay for what should be free. DO NOT generate a code here.

I don’t mind companies making money…

I don’t mind companies making money from their products if they are transparent about it. However, I strongly object when they clearly try to deceive their customers and mislead them by promising something for free, only to later demand payment for it.

QR.io’s Google ad promises free QR codes three times and mentions payment or subscription exactly zero times. The landing page contains nice descriptions and instructions, but still says nothing about any payment or subscription. There is no indication anywhere in the menu that anything will cost money. The welcome email also says nothing. Only if you go into the FAQ will you discover that it is actually a paid subscription with a 7-day trial period.

So, like many other trusting consumers, I generated my QR code, made sure it worked, and double-checked it before putting it on printed materials for a volunteer association event. Seven days later, the code stops working, displaying a message that the company requires $35 per month (!) to reactivate it. Completely unreasonable for a QR code for a volunteer event.

When I contact support to explain what I consider to be deceptive practices and false advertising, and ask whether the QR code can be made static and usable again, I’m told that converting that single QR code into a static version - without any features other than a fixed link - will cost $50 to reactivate. Again, completely absurd for a product I could have generated for free on hundreds of other websites.

Their product is undoubtedly useful and probably worth the money for larger companies, but for private individuals and volunteers like us, it’s nonsense. Had they acted properly and clearly communicated their business model, I naturally would not have used their product for my simple purpose. Instead, I am now faced with the choice of paying $50 to keep the code or ordering entirely new printed materials, since they are useless with QR.io’s QR code.

A very unsympathetic company that one should absolutely avoid.

Customer Service is Great!!

I had recently made an account and thought the free QR code generator options were indefinite. Unfortunately, I came to realize it was for a 7-day free trial after receiving a deactivation notice email regarding the QR code I created.

The QR code was for a blood drive, and flyers had already been produced. Our charity organization running the event didn't have funds for a subscription, so I reached out and Taiel from Customer Service graciously helped reactive the QR code free-of-charge because of the nature of our event. Huge thanks to Taiel for making this happen!

Because of the reactivation, our blood drive sign-ups are back on track, and we can help decrease the national blood shortage.

Thank you to QR.io for listening to my request and the generosity. It's literally going to save lives 😊

SCAMMERS

SCAMMERS! This site misleads many people. They offer a free QR code, and they automatically give me 7 days of trial, although I didn't take it. No warnings, and nothing. I put the products into print, and after 7 days the QR code is deactivated, and they ask for $35 per month for it. This is a scam. This site should be blocked. I understand that maybe they are clean and protected themselves. But they are the first to query Google and this is their deceptive way.
