I’ve had Progressive Insurance for 4 or 5 years maybe longer

I’ve had Progressive Insurance for two deer-related vehicle incidents within six months. Here’s my experience Received a small credit for medical tint ($20 on a $375 tint). I was told I could be reim-bursed if I provided a receipt with sufficient detail. I supplied the receipt, but it wasn’t detailed enough for them to reimburse. Fair value for the to-taled 2013 Chrysler 300, but the tint issue left me sceptical. Second accident (≈4.5 months later): Another deer strike on my 2013 Hyundai Equus. A very luxurious car. Fully loaded, I provided a detailed receipt for the medical tint again. I was paid less for the Hyundai Equus than for the Chrysler 300. The report showed only 1 of 4 comparison cars matched my model in a 275 mile radius, which made me feel the settlement wasn’t fair or adequate. The representative, Christian L., was professional and patient throughout the process. Inconsistent payouts for similar items (medical tint reim-bursement) and lack of clear, consistent policy details upfront. Receipt requirements for tint reimbursement were not initially clear, leading to dis-putes when a receipt didn’t meet internal detail standards. Limited or non-representative comparison data for the Hyundai Equus Ultimate, affecting perceived fairness of the settlement. Model availability constraints can impact replacement value or settlement adequacy, especially for less common models. Overall value delivered feels uncertain, prompting consideration of switching insurers. Progressive may provide professional customer service in some interactions, but my experience with claims related to deer damage and related accessories (like tinted windows), and the comparison of compensation between the 2013 Chrysler 300 being paid out higher then the 2013 Hyundai Equus left me feeling under-compensated and uncertain about fair market valuation. Given the payout disparities and model availability concerns, I’m planning to explore other insurance options in the near term.

I would like to take away one star…

I would like to take away one star because progressive along with all insurance companies are just organized scammers. 3 years and no claims yet my 6 month premium went from $600 to $1126 now they reduce $183 dollars and consider $983 is doing me a favor. Progressively FOS Goodbye progressive my policy expires 03/21/2026 so will my loyalty.

terrible if you have to file a claim

My car was stolen from outside of my house the morning after thanksgiving, 11/28/25, it was recovered in Edison the next morning after a two hour police chase. The car was crashed on both sides, damaged interior, and things stolen from inside. MOST importantly - the people that stole them car kept the key.

I have Progressive insurance. They took weeks to determine if they would fix or total the car. They decided to repair it. I raised the question about the key fob, they refused to rekey the car. Progressive insisted that the thieves NEVER return to the scene, so they wouldn’t cover rekeying. They also didn’t repair all of the damages and for the record whatever gets stolen from inside the car is not covered either.

Guess who came back last night, 2/15/26? The thief with the key!

Today, Progressive has determined that the thief returning is *simply* vandalism because the thief got scared off and didn’t complete the theft of the car, they still won’t rekey

This company is a rip off

This company is a rip off. They added people onto my insurance that lived in my home previously, hiked my policy way up. When I called them they made me exclude the drivers but still raised my policy rate. I will no longer do business with this company....

Surprise Fees & Poor Customer Service

Cancelled my policy for a more affordable option with Geiko. Progressive told me I owed $90 because they could not verify my driving history (even though I had been a customer with them for 5+ years). They said I could email them my driving record, but that would not affect my premium since the policy was already cancelled. They claim they sent me a piece of mail about this in advance, but I never received it. Glad to be done with Progressive, but it was a costly mistake to use them in the first place

Claim process so bad I canceled the claim

I have multiple policies, a clean driving record, and no prior claims. I filed a claim for a simple cracked windshield and had an awful experience. Because I added a vehicle and upgraded coverage a week earlier, the claim turned into an interrogation. I was asked excessive questions and even told they needed to speak with my wife and parents. It became so frustrating that I canceled the claim and paid out of pocket. This completely broke my trust in Progressive. I regret switching and will be moving to Allstate.

Low Premium = Denied Claims

If only I could leave a Zero! They offer low premiums because when you have a claim they give you a very low valuation for your vehicle. When you contest it they then find a way to deny your claim. Claims reps never answer calls or e mails, they only contact you when they want something. Low life’s that making a living by screwing people over.

I would give zero if that was an option. I spent 3 hours on the phone with these people trying to get an explanation why my husbands glass claim was $100 and mine was $1000. Same policy
Same coverages
No one could help and no one acted like it was a concern ..
I cancelled Progressive and went to another insurance company. It’s totally ridiculous how no one was even concerned … and being transferred to different people with the same attitudes was distressing.

Some of the worst claims experiences…

Some of the worst claims experiences and customer service I ever received. Latrice from LA denied my claim and didn't give a specific reason why. Not only that, but she never sent a dispute and tried to gaslight me on why she "denied" it. When I contacted her supervisor, Musa, he just spent the time trying to lecture me about "doing business" instead of helping me. Dude, I'm a customer. Maybe instead of focusing on other initiatives, you should focus on your customers and TREATING THEM RIGHT. I see a ton of one-star reviews here and your hubris and inflated sense of intelligence are the exact reasons why. Do better, Latrice and Musa.

Snapshot is a SCAM!!! Do not opt in!!!

Warning to any knuckleheads trying to save 5 bucks a month DO NOT OPT in to SNAPSHOT. I repeat DO NOT OPT in to SNAPSHOT. Pay the extra 10 or 20 bucks and keep off the grid. They gave me a 110% increase because I rode with my brother (who has a fast car) and it dinged my account and thought I was driving. They expect you to go on the app and click passenger every time you get in a car with somebody else( because they monitor your phone instead of a device in your own car) it’s a total scam , zero points on my license , zero tickets , no wrecks my entire life . I will be honest I drive a little fast but when I was with State Farm before it only went up a few bucks but my liability went from 70 to 150 dollars. Over 100% increase. So just pay the extra when you sign up and don’t try to be cheap unless you drive like a old grandma

They are thieves.

They are thieves. They put my daughter on my insurance when I told them not to and want me to pay three hundred dollars more. They sent papers without my knowledge to have her excluded. I found this out around 3 weeks after I told them not to have her covered. So I signed the paperwork and emailed it to them. She was uncovered when they received the paperwork with my signature. They want me to pay for the days prior to the signing of the paperwork because they covered her without my knowledge.

Me telling them I don't want her covered should have been good enough. They come up with the paperwork signing scam so they can cover her and charge me. So by the time they receive my signature they've already charged me those days of covering her without my knowledge that she was covered.

I'm going to another insurance company. I'm not paying attention dime.

Simple basic tasks are far too…

Simple basic tasks are far too difficult for Progressive and their agents. Simply wanted to pay my renewal in full but neither their website, my agent, or a call into Progressive on a Saturday to pay them did not result in an answer to my pay-in-full amount. Apparently it is too difficult to get a definitive answer on how much money I should send them. I guess the answer is "as much as you got" so they can spend some of it updating their system and employing more competent personnel to have a functioning company. Time to look elsewhere.

Beware of initial low rates! Its a scam

I have been a progressive customer for over a year. I will be switching the next policy period.

All insurance is a scam! All over priced and when you actually need to file a claim the rates SKYROCKET!

I havent had to file a claim or anything like that and our progressive rates still increase darn near monthly

They start out much cheaper rates than other insurance providers. It is pretty much a SCAM.

Their snapshot devices are a joke!!! You will end up paying more after a few months because of this device. Defensive driving techniques such as braking when someone pulls out or runs out in front of you. A traffic light change causing you to brake, all will ding you and cost you money . Driving later at night is also huge increases in $$. Dont understand with less cars on the road and in our case unavoidable, our rate significantly increased. Was told by progressive customer service...well why dont you just change the times you drive 🤔 🙄

The progressive app is useless! Costumer service is low at best.

Don't be purseueded by the low initial price. You get what you paid for and soon after will be paying much higher rates!

I hope this helps some of you choose

ZERO STARS

ZERO STARS — if that were possible

If I could give Progressive zero stars, I would.

Progressive is alleging “fraud” and “misrepresentation” in my auto claim, not because of facts, not because of evidence — but because they are weaponizing “garaging” as a technical excuse to avoid paying a valid claim.

Here are the actual facts they are ignoring:
• Our car is registered, titled, inspected, and plated in New York
• We work in New York
• We pay rent in New York
• Our hospitals and medical care are in New York
• The vehicle is insured under a New York policy
• We have legal documentation proving we are temporarily staying elsewhere only to rent out a property
• I can provide letters from landlords, medical providers, and agencies confirming all of this

And here’s the most important part:

👉 The accident did NOT happen while the car was parked.
👉 It happened while the car was being DRIVEN during normal, lawful use.

There is nothing in an auto insurance policy that says coverage magically disappears based on where a car sleeps at night — especially when:
• the accident occurred while driving,
• within the coverage territory,
• during ordinary personal use.

By Progressive’s logic, if someone gets into an accident while driving in another state — North Carolina, New Jersey, anywhere — they should be denied because the car “wasn’t garaged correctly.” That’s absurd, and it’s not how auto insurance works.

Instead of acting in good faith, Progressive jumped straight to alleging fraud — a serious accusation — without proof, without intent, and without material misrepresentation. This feels less like an investigation and more like a strategy to scare policyholders into giving up.

We paid our premiums.
We were transparent.
We have documentation.
And yet Progressive’s response was to look for a loophole instead of honoring coverage.

Consumers should be extremely careful.
If you ever find yourself in a claim, be prepared for Progressive to reinterpret your life circumstances after the fact to avoid paying.

I strongly recommend: stay away from Progressive.
This experience has shown me how quickly an insurer can turn on its own customers when it’s time to actually provide coverage.

The Bad, The Ugly, and The Worst

If you’re reading this, do not buy Progressive Insurance. They will rip you off. Their customer service is terrible, and their adjusters act rudely, offer low‑ball repairs, use the cheapest parts, and question obvious accident damage.
I had a no‑fault accident in December and used my uninsured motorist coverage. The impact spun my SUV and damaged the bumper, lift gate, and quarter panel. Progressive’s recommended shop kept my vehicle for 45 days, claiming they were waiting on the adjuster, who was “out of town” for weeks.
When the shop later found lift gate damage, they said Progressive might not cover it, even though my pictures clearly showed it was caused by the accident. The adjuster then questioned my integrity and even demanded pre‑accident photos. He told me he’d cover either the quarter panel or the lift gate—not both.
After repairs, my radio and backup camera didn’t work. A specialist found the accident impact blew a fuse and loosened wiring. Progressive still refused to cover the repair, claiming it wasn’t accident‑related.
In short, Progressive is one of the worst insurance companies. Stay away.

In March of 2025 i switched to…

In March of 2025 i switched to Progressive auto insurance over the phone. The agent determined my premium based on who had a drivers license at my adress, which was myself and my daughter. Based on that he quoted me a reasonable per month premium. After 4 months it went ten more dollars, which i didn't cry over. Now a month from my renewel date i check my premium was increasing seventy dollars. Immediatley called and ask why was that the case, which she explained that they needed to verify my license and i should upload it to progressive....@@@..@@##### i'm thinking, what. So i explain this to my daughter when she came back home. She said why i'm on your insurance policy. Long story short is that she have had progressive for 10 years. Progressive had to know this but after speaking to the nervous agent who confermed that they made mistake he emediatly updated my renewell but what about reimbursing me.

NEVER USE PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE

Progressive offered me a much lower rate when I moved to NC, but when I moved back to Georgia the rate tripled….when I cancelled the policy they charged me $103.00 to cancel stating it was to “pay the difference in the policies”which were all prepaid monthly. I will NEVER USE PROGRESSIVE again and would advise others the same! Just read the other reviews!
