terrible buyer's experience

terrible buyer's experience: the platform blocked the sale stating potential fraud risk and would not allow the seller to progress the transaction despite me being in touch with them and providing evidence of a sale (funds leaving our bank account).

The store has since sold the dress off the rack because POWD couldn't efficiently unblock their system (they have a 2 day delay process in getting back to both sellers and buyers... seriously how do you expect issues to be resolved like this when you can't reply on the same day) and allow the purchase to go through.

Really disappointing. Do not recommend. Ever.

Major POWD Changes Destroyed Margins for this Small Bridal Boutique

I own a small bridal boutique. Have been selling on POWD for 11 years now. It was a great experience until ~2 years ago.

They used to charge a reasonable listing fee and allow buyer and seller to handle terms of the transaction, shipping, etc.

Now, on top of their (unchanged) listing fee, they've begun charging a significant commission on every item sold.

Combine this with their new required absurd ($50 per item) shipping costs, POWD has "unviable-ed" themselves into obsolescence as far as this formerly loyal small business owner is concerned.

To illustrate, I'll share a brief snippet of a recent conversation on their platform:
Bride: "Why is shipping so expensive? $50 to ship a tiny thing 100 miles?"
Me: "I'm so sorry, I'd never willingly charge shipping here, but we're forced into this new shipping system. Are you able to cancel the transaction?"

Thankfully she was able to cancel the transaction, but not without jumping through significant hoops.

For reference, the "tiny thing" she wanted shipped was a size 00 custom 7/8" wide silk bridal sash in her primary wedding color. It met the size & weight requirements to ship USPS in an envelope with a single stamp.

I went off-script and sent it to her for free. Because that POWD dumpster fire is precisely why I wanted to create something that rejected the traditional price gouging "bridal wear" model.

I'm disappointed. I've met a lot of remarkable people while selling under the old POWD model; many of whom have become friends. (Tiny persimmon silk bridal sash lady thankfully part of that group of remarkable friends.)

But here's the beautiful thing. Brides exploring resale and past season options are savvy. They're aware that trends don't change so significantly from season to season... and they're price conscious. Sometimes because of budget constraints, but quite often, they've simply educated themselves, and aren't in the market of throwing money at an overpriced industry. They're savvy because they've made the effort to understand the market, and are aware of absurd premiums assessed on the wedding industry.

Seeing the blatant up-charges on anything "bridal" for my own wedding inspired me to begin crafting this business model 15 years ago... and it's allowed me to meet some truly extraordinary, brilliant, witty, hilarious humans.

Unfortunately, POWD has now become yet another cog in the price gouging wedding industry.

It was a good run, but this small business owner is officially tapping out. Good thing others are stepping up where POWD dropped the ball.

I hate to see so many people couldn't…

I hate to see so many people couldn't sell their dress easily, I had a rough time dealing with paypal so I would say find an alternative payment. But now that I sold my dress I cant get anyone to respond to my emails about deleting my account, which apparently you have to have them do and they do not offer a customer service line, all through email. I have sent three since last week and there's been no response, but they responded so fast every time I emailed about my paypal problems. For me the site was worth it but now that I am trying to delete my account they are making things difficult

Waste of money

I've been listing a classic styled dress with accessories, and no alterations at a very low price for over a year with nothing to show for it. You have to pay up front to list it. Total waste of time and money.

I do not recommened this website!

I have posted my wedding dress on preownedweddingdresses.com for well over 1.5 years now. Still my dress has not been sold. I don't think its that great a platform because you pay $25 to post your dress but nothing happens even after reducing the price in hopes it sells quicker. There are no other attempts or avenues the website adopts to help your dress sell other than requesting more money. I have decided to take my dress off. I was fortunate to find a shop about an hour from my house that is a bridal consignment shop. They have great reviews and have various ways to help your dress sell. Its 50/50 split once the dress sells but at least I will get something back rather than it being on the website and nothing happening for so long.

If your dress dosent sell within a certain amount of time the website should partially or fully refund customers!!!

Bought & sold my dress here

I bought and sold my wedding dress on PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com. They have a good system that could use some optimization (on the seller end, see below). I am very glad it was an option when I was buying and selling my wedding dress - I was able to get a ~$1500+ gown for net $200. (Bought for $500, sold for $300)

As a buyer: The website made it very easy to search for styles I wanted in my size and price range. When I picked one, the previous bride/seller was very responsive when I messaged her (and also super nice, which was lovely). Because individuals are selling their dresses, I imagine there may be variability in how responsive they are.

As a seller: The $25 flat fee to list was a bit expensive, but I built it into my price ($325 instead of $300) and the dress sold within 2 weeks anyway. PreOwnedWeddingDress' price estimator tool only estimated my gown to be worth ~$150, so I think it's worth listing higher than that and then lowering your price if no one is interested within a few months.
My one wish as the seller was that the payment option (I used Paypal) was a little more integrated into the site.

In response to the negative reviews about being unable to get your money back, as a seller I went with POWD recommended return policy (money back if shipped back in same condition within two days of receiving it). If you are concerned as a buyer, you can filter for dresses being sold with a return policy.

Bottom line - I recommend PreOwnedWeddingDress.com, and am very happy I used their site.

PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com was very…

PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com was very easy to use, and allowed me to recoup some of the money I spent on a dress that I decided not to wear for my wedding day. I love how it connected me with hundreds of buyers all over the country. I couldn't be happier with my experience.

Finally Sold!!

Finally Sold!!
It took me over 3 years!! After several attempts on Craigslist & FB, I posted to this site. I had a few inquiries that didn't pane out but finally I had a buyer!! Although, I reduced the Gown by 60% of it's original cost, I finally sold my Daughter's Gown!! Better than giving it away.

My experience was very smooth, following all directions for shipping & payment that were suggested on the site.

Good experience

I sold my wedding dress on this site. It took a few months for a buyer to commit, but for a $25 flat fee with minimal effort on my part that was ok. I tried selling it on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist without any luck. It was nice to have a site specifically for wedding dresses.

A great way to buy or sell a dress.

PreOwnedWeddingDresses is a lifesaver! I bought and sold my dress there and saved a TON of money. I had 2 friends tell me about the site and I also read a a lot (like hundreds) of positive reviews on wedding specific sites like wedding wire and the knot.

If you want to save on your dress, this is definitely the site to do it.

DO NOT BUY YOUR DRESS FROM THIS SITE!

DO NOT BUY YOUR DRESS FROM THIS SITE!! I am in the process of my second claim, wasted hours on the phone and countless emails trying to get my money back. I have pictures showing that the dress I received was damaged and this was not written in the description nor shown in the pictures. I had to rush order a new dress which cost me hundreds more and I have less than 100 days until my wedding and have yet to have a fitting. This is too much stress for a bride to deal with. My next step is to sue paypal. They do not secure your payment and the website says they can't do anything about it. The dress is unwearable as the crepe skirt has shrunk and the undercoat is showing. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THESE SITES!!

Zero protection for the seller

I had the worst experience with PreownedWedddingDresses.com. I sold my dress to a woman in Kansas and the post office seemed to have lost the package. I did insure the package & track it. After about 3 weeks of waiting for this dress to be delivered, the customer asked me to refund her. She was running out of time because her wedding was only a month away. Of course i refunded her immediately & pursued the insurance claim with the USPS. About two days after i refunded her, she received the package from USPS. I contacted her for the money that she owed and she kept giving me the run around. For weeks I texted this woman and she just blew me off and never paid me. I contacted PreOwnedWeddingDress.com to ask them to reach out to this customer. There was NOTHING they could/would do. PayPal couldn't help me either. I would not recommend using this service. Although the website say that this is a safe way to sell/buy a dress..you can still get screwed like i did

I bought my wedding dress on preownedweddingdresses.com and saved 60% off the retail price. The dress was used, but looked brand new and the seller was super helpful and friendly. I'd recommend this site to anyone!

Great way to sell a wedding dress!

I sold my wedding dress on PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com quickly and easily. I loved that they charged a one time fee with no commission. Creating my listing was quick and easy and the inquiries came right to my inbox. I shared by beautiful dress with another bride who loved it as much as I did. And she got the dress of her dreams that she might not have been able to afford otherwise. Perfect for both of us!

Trying to sell a used dress on this site? Save your money. After 1 day my dress was buried on the site under regular vendors. AND everytime I posted or changed something I got a bogus "carrot' email with either a bad phone number or email address that was never answered. They're playing games over there. NOT worth the "cheap" $25 they charged for nothing.
