sudden behavioural change in my dog

Cannot recommend Katie highly enough! My vet suggested I get a vet behaviourist involved and after research I chose Positive Pet Training. Excellent choice! After only one meeting Katie identified possible pain in my dog's rear end. She organised hormonal meds as she she been spayed at the wrong time, a pain trial (not easy as my dog cannot tolerate most meds), provided online dog behaviourial info, training information and specific various training tips. 12 months later, I Xray and an MRI , a strained groin muscle was identified and my dog is now well on the way to being rehabilitated. Behaviour has improved. Katie was a fantastic support, answering all my questions promptly and talking me through the whole process.

Dealing with an unexpected change in our dog's behaviour

The initial online discussion which was guided by information we had to provide about our dog was extremely helpful. It made us think about what was happening. This was followed by a home visit which amplified our discussions. We had been referred by our vet because Koko's behaviour had changed over a number of months from a friendly, easy dog to one that became reactive and unfriendly.
We were advised that sudden changes in behaviour pointed to either a pain or digestive issue. Providing videos of our dog's gait pointed to a possible pain issue.
He was put on high pain relief and we were given various exercises and methods to use to deal with his behaviour, especially around other dogs. This proved invaluable. It also gave us confidence when he was with us.
Following a marked improvement in his demeanour and getting our 'old' dog back, x-rays have shown that he has hip dysplasia. He has been referred for physio and hydro therapy with a view to being able to reduce the pain relief he is on.
Throughout the whole time Positive Pet Training have been supporting us we have received professional, firm and understanding advice. It's not always the dog that needs support!

Anxious Reactive Collie.

We have a very anxious reactive 3 year old collie, we were referred to Katie who picked up that our dogs gait wasn’t normal and that she was potentially in pain so we did a pain trial and had intense training and joined a few of Katie’s dog social Skills classes. 9 months on, X-Rays confirm deformation of spine and with medication, patience and correct behavioural training, we now have a dog that we can take to open spaces off lead and can even tolerate being with another dog in the house if managed. Thank you to Katie.

Highly recommended!!

Our 5-years old Golden Retriever Olly was referred to Dr Katie few months ago after struggling with anxiety. Since then we've completed 1-2-1 training as well as a group course and the progress that we made has been incredible!

Dr Katie is extremely knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about dogs. The training offers a holistic approach focusing not only on the dog's behavior, but also on his health and overall wellbeing. The sessions were always so much fun - not only for Olly, but also for us!

My husband and I gained so much valuable knowledge, which helped us to understand Olly much better by reading his body language and any subtle behavioral cues. Throughout the course we also had access to many useful online materials and videos and Dr Katie was always happy to help and answer any questions in between the sessions.

Olly is now so much happier in himself, his confidence grew and he certainly doesn’t rely on us as much.

We would recommend Positive Pet Training to anyone who would like to understand their dog better and who’s keen to create a more healthy and stress-free relationship with them!

Positive Pet Training are excellent

Positive Pet Training are excellent. We completed the puppy life skills 6 week course. The group was small so we got lots of time with the excellent trainer. The online portal is extremely helpful to read more about what we did in each session. All the training focuses on training the pup in a kind way.

I fully recommend Katie’s Positive Pet training

My husband and I have had one to one sessions with Katie at Positive Pet Training and recently competed a small group ‘Life Skills’ course as well. Our English Springer Spaniel was very sensitive and the training has helped us enormously. We will continue training with Katie to get our bronze, silver and hopefully gold certificates.
With my previous dog, we attended several puppy classes, had many one to ones’s, googled, read books, attended a course with a man who lived with wolves and spent a week with a dog trainer. I now feel that I do not need to search anymore, I shall only continue with Katie’s training as she is exceptional and in a different league. She is highly qualified (is also a vet) and really understands our four legged friends as well as being kind and patient to us humans who are trying to do the best for our pets. I fully recommend Katie’s Positive Pet training - you will have a happy and confident dog and it will take a huge weight off of your shoulders. Take your partner along to the training as it will save you having to train them as well.

Amazing

Amazing. Really enjoyed the training and we made such good progress. I was able to understand my dogs behaviour and when her sink was getting full and how to deal with it. Would definitely recommend.

Buddy has been undergoing regular sessions at what we call school for nearly a year. The progress he has made is amazing. We still have a long road ahead of us but he loves the sessions and feels relaxed and at home and that means he is more inclined to learn and improve.

Katie and Ian’s training is relaxed and detailed. Digger was challenged by the course (as were we!) and it was great to learn about the psychology as well as the training. The facilities are first rate. We can’t wait to move on to the next level of training!

Hoopers

We have just completed our bronze Hoopers course & I would very much like to thank Katie for her patience, humour & clear instruction to help both my boy & I to understand & learn the foundation to negotiate a simple Hoopers course.

There are many things I love about this relatively new Hoopers sport ... It is for all ages of dog from puppy to elderly, for all makes, sizes & abilities ... There is no jarring of joints as in some athletic high speed sports as the dog just runs (or jogs) to negotiate hoops, barrels & tunnels .... Speed doesn’t count but accuracy does & so a partnership is formed between handler & dog to maintain a focus & remain in tune with each other whilst running a course ... Above all we have fun together as a team.

I am also teaching my older dog to play at Hoopers who very much enjoys it too, I will stop doing agility with him before too long due to his age & the potential joint impact & injury & so I am delighted to have found this sport to continue this side of our life together.

I am looking forward to the silver & gold sessions & our future challenges as we progress & learn together with the guidance of Katie ... I know I will have fun with my boy (boys!) in years to come.

I think I am hooked!

Amazing training for you and your dog

Amazing training with two of the nicest people you could wish to meet. As you would expect from a training company called Positive Pet Training - all training is done in a positive way, no demanding you dog does anything, they do it because they genuinely love working with you and the way they are trained they actually make the right decisions themselves, you can literally see your dog thinking about what they are going to do then doing it. Can’t not recommend them enough for a happy dog and a happy family.

Thank you, thank you!

I can’t recommend Positive Pet Training highly enough. With their help our 4year old rescue spaniel has developed from anxious, stressed and unpredictable to a loving family member, gaining the confidence to relax and trust. We have learned to understand him and help him in that journey. There’s still more we can do together but it has been an absolute joy to see our lovely boy blossom and we look forward to more of the same. Thank you so, so much.
