I was sceptical about booking this groupon for my sisters 30th because there were mixed reviews. However from start to finish we found the spa day so relaxing and really up there. The room we were in was a stained glass window facing one which brought a spiritual element to it. The staff were really accommodating too when my sister requested a more firm pressure likened to a sports massage. I had such a relaxing time and mine was of medium pressure. The lady Marnie was fab with me and worked out so many of my knots bless her. I’ve also been getting compliments on my skin after the payot/ radiance facial whichever it was ! The only thing I was wary of was the upselling via email but understandably they are a business. We opted to upgrade to hot stone and full body massages for £60 extra and waive the admin and slippers and robes fee. I found it worthwhile as even though there isn’t leisure facilities as such they add value in being experts at their craft in massaging. The booking system was fast as well. They called the following day after purchasing to get it booked which I found efficient. The only thing is if you’re that kind of person is the accommodation could be described as dated however i really enjoyed it as it brought an other worldly feel. A different kind of spa day but definitely worthwhile

Old, musty and scruffy building. Tapas inedible. Constantly on the upsell. Treatments poor and location freezing. The staff were pleasant. It wasn’t cheap after paying £56 for the upgrade and £129 for the voucher. Pay the same/extra and go to a proper spa instead of a scruffy church hall with no spa facilities.

3 of went for treatments, high tea & a Prosecco deal. The 3 of us went into the same treatment room, which fine. The room was painted burgundy, was dark, quite cool & very poorly lit. One of the treatments I chose, was a file & polish. In the treatment room, I was asked what colour polish I wanted, purples, reds or nudes. I wasn't given an option to see the range. 5 nudes colours were brought in to choose from. I said that it was too dark to see them so she put the torch on her phone! Then, she proceeded to polish my fingernails, whilst I was LYING DOWN on the treatment bed, in dim darkness!! Sadly, the result was poor. The colour was different to how it looked in the room and once home, I removed it all! I just thought that it was a strange and bizarre way of applying nail polish for both myself and, the beautician, which leads me to conclude that that was her instructions from management, because no one would choose that method of application!
However, the high tea and Prosecco was really nicely presented, welcome & enjoyable.
Overall, it was a nice day. The staff were more than helpful and made the best of everything, but, the premises is tired & needs a serious 'dollying' (clean) and, makeover. The hygiene is questionable & I would fear possible infection risks!

The staff were lovely very helpful and attentive. The food was great. The treatments were amazing. Had hot stones massage and a facial. So relaxing and enjoyable. The robes and slippers were comfortable. Recommend portland spa for a relaxing spa day.

Awful experience, dirty, poorly lit possibly to hide the lack of hygiene.

The candlelit spa was not safe, very poorly lit, no steps to get in, one of the wooden seats tipped back it was unsafe I hurt my arm.

The treatment room we were taken to was again very dark, with 3 small beds that just fit inside the room, it was unclean; the towels were marked and dirty, there were used cotton wool pads on the treatment area. Not what we would expect from a ‘spa’. We left after spending less than an hour there! Would DEFINITELY not return!

The massage and facial quite nice and the afternoon tea delightful but the place is quite shabby, the beds and covers very overused and uncomfortable. For the back massage I had to ask for a bolster for my ankles (my feet get cramp) the tiny towel wasn't really good enough and for the facial had to ask for a pillow. My comfort didnt seem a priority.
It's a real shame as it could be the place to go. Most staff obliging and courteous.

Lovely reception staff, lovely treatments by therapist's, then we went for our 3 course mea! sophiar the waitress was rude and unhelpful, one meal was totally different than ordered and when asked about it was told that menu is a year old and the new chef doesn't do that meal! Then charged us for prosecco that was part of the deal we paid for! Dirty changing rooms,tired facilities holes in gowns, could forgive that if not for Sophia and her stinking attitude,was told simply email our complaint! Disappointing,

We arrived to this building which on first impression looked like a old people's home, in side it smelt no better there was no clean fresh spa smell but we decided to look past it until we had to send several robes back due to the smell of wet dog and one had brown stains all over 🤢

We had food booked, so we sat in a old worn room, even the flowers on the table was dead. I asked for a bottle of water and was told I could only have tap water, what!!! 🤣

We booked to go to the pool spa so our party of 8 was met with a 6 seater hot tub with mouldy ceilings we ordered drinks which was brought to us in glass glasses which was very dangerous for how wet a slippy the floor was and when we asked if we could get the parts of the the floor that wasn't covered dried the girl said they had no dry mops my sister told her to get towels as I have a broken ACL injury and my 65yr old aunt has bad legs due to caner treatments if that wasn't bad enough the smell of drains was getting strong by the minute 🤢

We got out and complained and was told if we left we wouldn't get a refund anyway so we might as well stay for the treatments so being a group of 8 we had to all go back in to the old mouldy room where we ate to the sit soaking wet and wait 45 minutes freezing when the second group went up (my group) I asked has the red vile sheet been changed for the group before because they were all crumpled I was assured they had been changed they really had not Ince I put my head on the towel the same smell of the robes was there damp wet dog it was vile!

When we was leaving all feeling dirty without a shower because of them not working we was told "well it is only a day spa" 😳

When we was leaving the building the staff was all standing ready to leave now at this point we are all in disbelief thinking if they leave with us who's cleaning the disgusting place.

Please, this is just a building that offers beauty treatments IT IS NOT A SPA!!!!

If you want a lovely spa day book formby hall it's not far and you will walk in to the smell freshness, aromatherapy oil, pool chlorine and will come out feeling clean and not dirty.

We was offered a 25% refund but I replied to a comment to save a lady paying out and told her not to go and find another spa which prompted them to then with hold the refund. It wasn't about the pittance we would have got back but more to do with other people not being ripped off.

Four of us booked through a groupon voucher paying around £90 each with the extra add ons robes, mini treatments etc.
There is a very small car park for parking at the front or you need to pay and display on the road outside if there’s no spaces.
Once inside it is a very quiet environment however could do with some tlc as it looks shabby and run down. There is Only one toilet, the receptionist was friendly she showed us through to some shabby ripped couches with wallpaper peeling off and offered us tea and coffee whilst we filled forms out.
We were then shown through to the changing facilities which had 3 changing rooms it was clean and tidy but again could do with some tlc.
We waited 45 minutes over our allotted time for our first treatment without any offers of drinks or water.
The therapist eventually came through and took us up some stairs into a double treatment room the massage and facial were lovely and relaxing, I had Grace who I would recommend although Grace is probably the only 1 thing I would recommend about the day.
We paid extra for mini treatments 2 of our party received these and 2 didn’t so was advised to put it into an email to the head office which we did and was basically called liars by Lyn saying the therapist said they had done the treatments so we must have been mistaken. Although I don’t know how you could possibly mistake a head and scalp massage seeing as I had a claw clip in the whole massage!!!
Afternoon tea was nice only small but enough with 2 glasses of Prosecco however only received one of these despite it stating 2 on the itinerary.
We ordered more drinks 1 tea, 1 coke and 2 cocktails which came to £22.30 so not too badly priced.
We waited for an available changing room and our day was over.
We are a group of 4 ladies aged early 40s and book a spa treatment ever 3 months or so for a catch up so have been to many in our time, we always leave honest reviews and try to give customers a true view of how our day has been.
Unfortunately Portland hall spa is the only spa we would not return to in a hurry.

This visit was my friends Christmas gift from me, 4 treatments and high tea. I have been here a few times now, and everytime is lovely. Our treatments were so relaxing, our high tea was delicious. The staff are very professional but also very lovely. We had an amazing visit thank you.

This was an absolute disgrace,booked it for my fiance and mother in law. hiding pipe work under pouffe in the changing rooms. On our way to the treatment, black mold on the ceiling (looks they tried to wipe it). Extra fee for Gowns and wafer thin slippers. The gowns and towels on the beds for the treatments both felt and smelt damp. Very disappointed giving this being her third visit. Coming home to tell me "would never go there again"
Positive: great sticky toffee pudding, massage was great 👌 can't fault the girls.
Premises and amenities horrendous

Waited a few months to visit this spa. First of all it was a bit difficult to redeem a voucher but the lady on reception did help me with this.

Thought it was a bit of a con that the pool isn’t included and they mention this is an extra charge per person (I think £30 something each) they advertise this as saying staff will be on hand to bring you what you need and the way it’s worded sounds like a glass of champagne and dipped strawberries are included which in reality it was a glass of water and a few bits of fruit stuck on a stick, no one came near only to say the time is up.

Got out of the pool to find out out schedule had been changed so next was the food where we was invited to sit in soaking wet costumes for an hour an wait to be called for food and again sat eating in wet stuff (this should of been after the day had ended as per the original schedule).

The dining experience was an experience on its own as the dining room was a bit scruffy looking and the lady serving the food was sat shovelling chips into her face whilst standing behind the why the clients sat eating (when say shovelling tbats exactly what she was doing by picking chips up with her hands and putting her hand flat to her face to shovelling them all into her mouth in one go). Food was basic and I had to leave the table to go the reception as I was told I didn’tbook champagne on our order which I had the emailing confirmation to show it should have been. After 10 mins of the staff going to ask someone else they agreed we should of had the champagne but as we had now finished the meal time slot was told to take it home because it was too late to drink it.

Next the treatment which felt lovely but the room felt very cramps and I thought one of the girls came across a bit rude and abrupt. It would of been more enjoyable if we wasn’t concentrating on holding back vomit after having to be on our stomachs after just finishing eating which ruined the purpose of the visit really.

We did order an extra treatment each which was on offer but we still got a larger bill than expected at the end.

All in all it’s a bit of a rip off, staff are not very professional, food basic, treatments ok, the order in which they do things make you more uncomfortable than relaxed and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Just home after a morning at the portland Spa Southport I had bought a groupon deal at Christmas and booked for today for myself and 2 daughters 1st time here it is a old building Moroccan style we was greeted by I think jenny who was warm welcoming and asked if we'd like a drink while filling out our forms we had tea and coffee which was nice I had booked for back shoulders neck massage with a facial and prosseco afternoon tea we got to choose xtra treatments which we did as add ons which where reasonably priced we added a head massage with oils and hot stone massage all was lovely and left us relaxed my face is feeling beautiful and soft and refreshed we had a afternoon cream tea with presseco the sandwiches and cakes were plentiful as we couldn't eat it all but we'll presented water and prosseco included we all feel ready for a sleep now as it was relaxing would go again try other treatments staff where all luvly and good at their job its a little dark in decor and isn't a brand new building so will look old but beautiful building very relaxing It was clean and the robes and slippers which I hired xtra were very clean and fitted well my daughters are slim but I am a size 16 so the robes covered me so I was pleased as I have read very negative reviews about here but I'd say give it a try and I guess like every1 is different like every Spa so thnx girls and chef for a lovely morning

My friend booked a hot stone massage package for the two of us. The girls were friendly and welcoming when we arrived and the old synagogue is stunning. The morrocan theme is lovely and provides a relaxing atmosphere. We had a coffee and they explained our package so we could make our choices of treatments and tapas. We were escorted to the changing room and given our robes, slippers and locker key. We sat and chatted on the super comfy couches before entering the dining room for our tapas. The food was lovely, the only downside was the candles all being blown out and cleared away from all the tables before we had finished eating but I think this was due to us being the last customers of the day and the girls needing to complete their jobs. We were then taken for our treatments. The thin material that is used to cover you on the bed is difficult to get under (warm towels would be better) but my therapist offered me a blanket which which was lovely. My therapist was Sarah, she was brilliant, the hot stone massage was amazing and my facial was the best I’ve ever had (thank you Sarah). My friends therapist was Jane and she equally enjoyed her treatments.

So I made a booking for yesterday with my daughter in law. When we arrived I was told there was an extra £18.50 charge each? This was due to being Christmas period? It was a normal Thursday- I had worked that morning- I had spoken to the spa earlier on the phone and this was not mentioned! It was not a weekend or a Bank Holiday. I said I wasn’t happy to pay this but would pay something. The receptionist just said nothing she could do? If this was my business I would certainly be looking to accommodate customers. I mentioned that lots of reviews say about extra charges but she clearly wasn’t bothered about losing our custom. I had family and friends waiting on my experience and based on this I know if was a great one they would look to book also! Clearly a spa that doesn’t want or need new customers? I also said I have my confirmation booking with my price on from the spa but she was unphased and not bothered in the slightest. This was not about the money but the whole principle and experience.

My partner bought us a package from a promotion email we received for £120, that included a hour personal use to the candle lit spa pool, 25 minute hot stone massage & tapas for two. On orrival we received a complimentary drink. We chose coffee, and then was escorted to the locker room to get changed to our robes. We was then escorted to the candle lit pool and was left with fruit & water to enjoy for a hour. Once this was done we was escorted to the locker room to get dry then to our treatment rooms where we received our hot stone massage that was lovely & relaxing. Once this was over we was then escorted to our tapas after a 10 minute chill out after our massage. Overall a lovely relaxing experience
The decor could do with a spruce but it was still a calming environment

I wouldn't recommend that anyone buy a gift voucher from this place. I paid for the voucher via PayPal via their website. I received a email receipt from PayPal but nothing showed on my PayPal statement. I put the receipt number into PayPal and it was not recognised but the money was taken from my credit card. This came to light when I tried to redeem the voucher and they told me it had expired (no expiration dates on the voucher they sent) For another £60 they will extend the time of the voucher. I feel some sort of scam going on here.

Nothing quite like a rude scouse woman shouting at you down the phone. Bought a voucher and no expiry printed on it. Apparently the mail shot had the small print mentioning it was 12 months. Not helpful when giving someone a gift, they are not going to print off an advert email with an offer on to go with the voucher in the card. I raised with them that it’s their responsibility to make sure expiry’s are clearly communicated on the voucher but as with everything at this place. It’s your fault not theirs. We previously went here a lot before the pandemic. It was looking dated and tired then. But we thought it was good value and tied it in with shopping in Southport. Clearly not interested in keeping repeat business. Just pocketing money for a service they haven’t supplied.

I visited on a Sunday in August with 2 friends for a spa day. I had previously visited and although the place is very run down, it had previously been good value for treatments.

On this particular day, the 3 of us were crammed into 1 room with 3 therapists. We started off with a mud wrap and after it had finished and the therapists left whilst we turned over for our massages, my friend on the end said she didn't know how they were going to do her massage as she was against a wall and the therapist couldn't get down 1 side of her bed. When the therapists came back in and we were face down, within a minute, I heard a crash and as I looked up, my friend was on the floor. Her table had collapsed as the therapist had tried to reach over. As you can imagine this was highly embarrassing for my friend and she didn't want to cause a fuss on the day. She was taken to another room for her treatments. The therapists apologised, but as you can imagine it did ruin the relaxing day we'd had planned.

I contacted the spa the following day by phone and was told the manager was not available, so I emailed to give my complaint. I had to chase this up after 2 weeks of no reply, in which I then received an email from Nina the manager in which I was told my friend who had come away from her "relaxing" spa day covered in bruises was to be given no refund. She was offered a free 25 minute treatment as compensation, as you can imagine, she no longer wants to set foot back in there. Nina also stated "Upon arrival you filled in your consultation forms which states that Portland Hall Spa cannot be held liable for any accidents that occur whilst visiting in which you signed and agreed to" I don't think this includes massage tables collapsing but Nina seemed to think it did. I went back with a polite reply asking for her insurers details, so I could take the matter up with them and I have been ignored.

Absolutely shocking customer service and we will never return. They were fortunate my friend is fit and able, as I dread to think what would have happened if it had been my mum who I regularly take on spa days and has had 2 hip replacements.

Would Give '0' Stars If Could For Wowcher. Purchased a spa day 'deal' as a birthday gift for a friend with Portland Spa. Turns out its full of hidden charges which are not made clear when ordering. They declare on ordering that your charged a booking fee, for gown and slippers - not great but hey ho, thought I would still try it due to the quoted RRP which has you believing its still a good deal - its not. You then find out why you try to book the spa that you also have to pay extra to go after 9am! (place is open 8am to 6pm). They describe on the wowcher site that you get use of a pool with the voucher, however when you get there they also tell you that this is an extra charge of £32+ per person (so an extra £64 per couple if you want to use this, even though the wowcher says its included)! They say that the standard 'package' wowcher has an RRP £292+ - view the merchant site and there is no such package - in fact the closest to it is cheaper than what has been paid and there is more included! - there for it is no deal! You also get a 'tapas lunch' after your treatments which apparently are suppose to last an hour and a half and be separated so you can 'use the pool' if you wish. This doesn't happen, you are just on a conveyor belt and while you wait its just like being in a drs waiting room! Not relaxing at all... You then have the treatments which last less than an hour or there abouts, and are then ushered for your 'lunch' at 11am!!! You then are sat down and given the lunch and thats the day done - so £100+ paid with hidden fees for an 2/2.5 hour 'spa day deal'. There was no complimentary drink offered to us either, even though this is also stated on the wowcher. Their customer service (of both companies) is appalling, they offer no help and demand you 'wait' for the venture to respond to messages - which doesn't ever happen (I've been waiting for a week now) - Have now been in touch with clearpay. Clearpay have been lied to and told by Wowcher that I had not even contacted them! so much so that I have sent screen shots of all the correspondence to them and am now waiting on Clearpay to reinstate the dispute for this. This is another load of rubbish from them, I have messaged them either via email or whattsapp every day, multiple times and have screen shots of it all, since the day after visiting this shame spa! I really have had enough of them, will never recommend or use them again and I will be contacting my bank if clearpay can not resolve this at their end. The whole platform is a shame and they are robbing cowboys! There are no deals, they just make up RRP prices to steal honest peoples hard earned money from them! Just to confirm the order number is ; 44935488 before you go asking for it. Still no response either from the spa themselves!! Wowcher 'told' me I had to wait 3 business days - its 4 today and they have still done nothing - I am utterly embarrassed and annoyed by this 'deal' in front of my friend who was suppose to be treated for her birthday, not find out that there are multiple unacceptable charges when we arrive! Lesson of the story DONT BUY FROM WOWCHER!!!!
