I am truly disappointed
On Saturday June 21, 2025, I placed an online order at a company called PLUM + SPARROW. I ordered a Moses Basket as a gift to a young couple just before the birth of their first child and was really excited to do this. Days went by and I never received notice from Plum & Sparrow with the shipping information, which is not normal, so I broke down and emailed them and also called them on the phone. A woman promised that the basket would be shipped out on Friday June 27 but in the meantime she wanted to know if I wanted to add on to that order......perhaps I would like to also buy some accompanying items maybe that would go with the Moses Basket? Anyway, it is now 2:15pm Friday afternoon, June 27, and I just received an email addressed to the names of the young couple, the gift receivers, instead of to me, the one who placed the order, announcing that the order was shipped to them by FED EX on June 20th, and in the same email, Plum + Sparrow provided the Fed Ex tracking number. Of course, this communication about the shipping provides false information. It's an entire week off! When you press the tracking buttons, you will see that PLUM + SPARROW reports that they created the shipping label on June 19th, which is completely false, as I hadn't even placed the order until June 21st. When I pressed the additional FED EX tracking numbers and drop down menus, it shows that the courier didn't even have the package until today, June 27th.
The email tries to imply that the slow arrival of the gift has something to do with the courier, Fed Ex. But it is really Plum + Sparrow that has delayed things. I'm not sure why this company adopts communication practices like this, but it's woefully disappointing, a bad business practice at best and something more disappointing at worst. In any event, business practices like these undermine customer trust; it wrinkles the overall experience of doing business with them. Bottom line, the fulfillment process at Plum + Sparrow is very slow, perhaps they are understaffed, or perhaps they outsource all aspects of packaging and shipping to a third party, but I am super uneasy with a company that operates under a canopy of messy/inaccurate communications. By the way, PLUM + SPARROW charged $25 for the Fed Ex shipping! I had really wanted to support this company, the website stresses new life, joy, beauty, intimacy for baby and parents, all lovely, but perhaps it is only hype. Marketing, as they say. Nothing more.
