PicFair Hasn’t Worked for Me

I honestly feel like this whole endeavor has been a waste of my time and money. It seems like no matter how much I try to keep the content fresh & updated that nobody outside the photography community even knows what PicFair is. I was hit with a targeted ad on social media. I fell for it. “I paid for my new camera with the money I made” was one of the sales pitches.
After a whole year of zero sales & less than a thousand page views, I foolishly allowed the service to renew. Since then I have one sale- a friend who bought a print for a gift. And still have less than a thousand page views.
For me, I really feel like PicFair has not been good for me. I have recouped less than 10% of what I have spent to date- if you don’t count the dozens of hours I have spent trying to curate a page that would interest people.
My advice for anyone thinking that this might be a viable source of income is to think again. I certainly hope that others have had better success. From my standpoint, though, it’s not worth the time or effort.

We’re genuinely sorry to hear how disappointing this experience has been for you, and we appreciate you taking the time to explain it so clearly.

Picfair is designed to give photographers their own store, pricing control, and customization options, with sales typically coming from how and where that store is promoted. As a result, outcomes can vary widely, and for many creators sales build gradually rather than immediately.

Alongside the platform itself, we provide hundreds of free, expert-written guides on pricing, promotion, and building an audience, aimed at helping photographers give their store the best possible chance of success. These resources are available to all users via focus.picfair.com.

We’d also like to clarify the quote you mentioned. “My Picfair earnings paid for my new camera” was a direct quote from an interview with a photographer who had found success using Picfair. If it’s of interest, the full interview can be read here: https://focus.picfair.com/articles/how-i-sell-photos-with-my-picfair-store-in-conversation-with-photographer-em-worseley

We understand how disheartening it can be to invest significant time and effort without seeing the return you hoped for, and we’re sorry Picfair hasn’t been the right fit for you.

Thank you again for sharing your honest feedback, and we genuinely wish you the best with your photography going forward.

Im using the paid for Pro version it does not work

Im using the paid for Pro version. Before you subscribe trial this and do the following upload a number of images. Scroll down from the top and shift select images 10 to 20. Now scroll back to the top to the 1st image and what you will see is all the images have been selected. This means that what ever changes you wanted to be applied to images 10 to 20 have been applied to all images from 1 to 20.
I have exchanged several emails with Sally in support who flatly denies their is an issue but you try it before you part with you money, its cost me days of work correcting all the damaged data on hundreds of tagged images. BEWARE these people are not interested in customer support or any form of support for their product. I have never sold a single image by the way.
I've seen the response below which sounds helpful but it took a post on trustpilot to provoke a seemingly helpful response. All I would say it's a concern that online software can be so unreliable as to be influenced by your PC, operating system or any other issue in your home. Also look at how people rate this system on Trustpilot which contradics this company's claim.

Hi Glyn,

We’re sorry this has been such a frustrating experience and that we haven’t been able to resolve it to your satisfaction.

As mentioned in our previous email, we shared a screen recording showing us accessing your account and carrying out the same steps you described. In that test, the behaviour you’re reporting did not occur.

That said, we absolutely understand how disruptive this would be if it is happening on your side. Without direct access to your machine or being able to see the interaction live, it is difficult for us to diagnose whether this could be related to a specific browser, operating system, or interaction pattern.

We have not seen similar reports from other users, but as per our last email, we are still happy to investigate further. If you are willing to share your operating system, browser, and version details, we can continue testing this as thoroughly as possible.

We appreciate you taking the time to raise this and remain open to working with you to better understand what is happening.

Hi Fran,

We’re sorry to hear about this and understand how concerning it can be to see unexpected charges.

If an account is cancelled, no further payments should be taken. In some cases, charges can appear if a cancellation happens while a payment is already overdue.

We’d be very happy to look into this for you and clarify exactly what’s happened on your account, as well as advise on cancellation status or any options that may be available.

Hi Magdalena,

We’re sorry to hear about your frustration and understand how upsetting an unexpected renewal can feel.

When a subscription renews, the charge is applied immediately. As explained clearly at checkout, cancellations take effect from the next billing period rather than retroactively, which is standard practice for subscription services.

If you’d like us to look into your account and explain what options may be available, please contact us at hello@picfair.com and we’ll be happy to help.

Hi Beth,

We’re sorry to hear about your experience and understand why this would be frustrating.

To clarify, our free plan (Picfair Lite) does not convert automatically into a paid subscription. A charge would only occur if a paid plan was actively selected and purchased, at which point the renewal price, billing frequency, and auto-renewal terms are clearly shown.

Poor customer experience and no renewal…

Poor customer experience and no renewal reminders

Like others have pointed out, the renewal fee comes out automatically without warning.

An email reminder is something that most reputable companies do as a basic courtesy and when I pointed this out, they basically said they’re not doing anything illegal and it’s computer says no.

When I asked for a refund, they refused to issue a full one and would only offer 50% back “as a goodwill gesture”. This still penalises loyal customers for not manually checking a date every year.

It may technically follow their policy, but it’s not consumer-friendly or reasonable.

All respect for the brand out of the window in one email chain.

Hi John,

We’re sorry to hear that your experience was disappointing, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback.

To clarify, when a Picfair subscription is purchased, the checkout clearly states that the plan will renew automatically unless cancelled, along with the renewal date and price. This information remains available at any time in the Subscription Details section of your account settings.

Regarding refunds, while subscription fees are non-refundable under our terms, we may offer a partial refund in some cases as a goodwill gesture. We understand this may not fully address your concerns, but it is intended as a fair compromise in line with our policies.

We’re sorry that this interaction has impacted your perception of Picfair. Our aim is always to be clear, transparent, and fair in how subscriptions are managed. If you’d like us to review your account again or clarify anything further, our support team is available at hello@picfair.com and will be happy to help.

Have just cancelled my subscription!!

Have just cancelled my subscription in the last few minnutes.

I have subscribed since 2023, and from the beginning, I paid the Plus subscription, which was due to renew on 26 December for £90. I've only had 2 sales since 2023, yet my images sell constantly on other sites without me having to pay. Picfair seemed like a good idea initially, but it hasn't turned out to be, so time to call it a day.

Hi Richard,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, and we’re sorry to hear that Picfair hasn’t been the right fit for you. We completely understand how frustrating it can be when sales don’t meet expectations.

Picfair is not a traditional stock marketplace. The Plus subscription gives photographers their own standalone store, with full control over pricing and customization, rather than placing images into a shared marketplace. This is different from free platforms, where images are listed alongside millions of others and photographers typically have little control over how their work is presented or sold.

Thank you for trying Picfair, and we wish you every success with your photography going forward!

Poor service and interface.

The service is reasonable, although the interface is clunky and not easy for clients to use.

My real issue is with the automatic subscription renewal. I cancelled the service, but was charged again.

When I disputed the charge, they were quite short and unpleasant, saying they would share logs with my bank, etc. I definitely cancelled the subscription, and they would be able to see that no activity over the past few weeks, hence my cancellation.

It’s only £9 I’m disputing, and had they accepted their error (or perhaps mine but cancelling is complicated on a phone), I’d continue to use them, but given this experience, I would not recommend PicFair.

There are alternatives out there, which are much less clunky and, above all, much nicer to deal with.

Hi Phill,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re sorry to hear that it left you feeling frustrated.

We appreciate the feedback on the interface. Improving usability for both photographers and their customers is an ongoing priority for our product team, and comments like yours help inform where we focus next.

Regarding the subscription renewal, all Picfair subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled, with the renewal date and price clearly shown at checkout and available at any time in the Subscription Details section of the account. If a cancellation is completed successfully, no further charges are taken. If you're unsure how to cancel your subscription, our support team are always on hand to help out.

When a renewal is disputed, our support team may reference account activity and system logs, as this is standard required practice when responding to bank disputes and chargebacks. This is not intended to feel confrontational, but to ensure the facts are accurately represented.

We’re sorry if our tone came across as abrupt. That’s never our intention, and we aim to handle all enquiries professionally and respectfully.

We understand how disappointing this experience has been, especially given that you would otherwise have continued using Picfair. If you’d like us to review your account again or clarify anything further, our support team is always available at hello@picfair.com and will be happy to help.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Steer clear, rip-off.

Like many, I had forgotten about a subscription until payment was taken. However, like any subscription-based system, there is a legal requirement that they advise you in a timely manner of both the date and cost of renewal. They didn't bother with the reminder and just took the money. Despite several emails relating to this, they refused to comply. Many thanks to my bank, Nationwide, for intervening and recovering the cost.

Hi Pete,

We’re sorry to hear that this situation left you feeling frustrated.

To clarify an important point: when a Picfair subscription is purchased, the checkout clearly states that the plan will renew automatically unless cancelled, and it displays both the renewal date and the renewal price at the time of purchase. These details remain visible at any time in the Subscription section of the account settings, giving users full control over their plan.

While we understand that an unexpected charge can feel unpleasant if a subscription has been forgotten, the renewal itself is valid and lawful. For this reason, we were unable to offer a full refund in this case, as the charge was applied in line with the agreed terms.

We appreciate you sharing your experience and are sorry that Picfair did not turn out to be the right fit for you. If you would like any further clarification about how subscriptions work or need help accessing your account details, our support team is always available at hello@picfair.com.

We wish you all the best going forward!

AVOID AT ALL COST

I was very disappointed with my experience using Picfair. My subscription renewed automatically without any clear reminder or warning — something I didn’t expect and wouldn’t have agreed to. When I contacted support immediately after noticing the charge (and without having used the renewed service at all), they refused to issue a full refund, citing their terms and conditions.

They offered only a 50% refund, which I found unacceptable given that I had no intention of renewing and received no advance notice. The tone of the response felt dismissive, with no willingness to resolve the matter fairly.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) guidance, businesses are expected to make auto-renewal terms and reminders clear and prominent, giving customers a fair chance to cancel before being charged. In my experience, this standard was not met.

While their platform may work well for others, I would strongly caution anyone considering a subscription to check the renewal policy carefully. The process is unfair and not customer-friendly, especially compared to other companies that handle these situations with greater transparency and flexibility.

Well you pay and get your photos uploaded and licenced. That's the easy part. Then they expect you to advertise your own gallery. So if you don't have any where to advertise then your photos don't get sold.
