Support for my brother Mike
My brother Mike (aged 64) has mental health issues (including psychosis/delusional tendencies). He is also an alcoholic, and uses alcohol to try to reduce the impact - which has the effect of making things worse. Knowing that Mike had hit a particular low, Pere agreed to provide support for Mike. She stuck with this over a 2 week period, despite Mike's very difficult behaviour, and did a very good job in supporting him. We were very keen for the support to continue, but Mike said he didn't need any support and it came to an end. Although it was only over a short period, my view is that Pere's firm but fair approach had a significant impact in convincing Mike that he is the one who has to take responsibility and the decision to change. Pere had provided similar support for Mike in mid 2022 when he had hit a similar low point, while he was living in accommodation that really wasn't suitable for him. Pere's support had a significant impact, and helped Mike regain his equilibrium which made it possible for him to transfer to much better supported accommodation. In summary, Pere is a person who, based on our experience of her assistance to Mike, goes above and beyond in her willingness to work with challenging clients, and a real commitment to making a difference. She does this is a way that enables her client to take responsibility as appropriate, rather than creating a dependency. Her rates are extremely reasonable for the support she provides.
