I recently purchased a Cross Century II Fountain Pen from a well known online auction site, only to find the plastic ink feed under the nib had snapped off. Turns out replacements are as rare as hens teeth, but Steve at the PenBox came up trumps. Not only did he have what I was looking for, it arrived within a couple of days. Top marks, highly recommended.

A really good company to deal with

This was a first time purchase for me from Penbox. I had spotted their old website and there was advertised a Porsche 3110 Tec Flex fountain pen with a fine nib. I was amazed to find it still in stock and at a very good price. Steve, the owner, was very helpful, going off to check the stock and giving a good description over the phone of both the pen and the packaging.

I paid by card late in shop opening hours on a Thursday so the pen was shipped the next day by RMSD and arrived at my far distant address on Monday.

I was concerned that the nib would be too fine for me, but this Porsche nib writes more like a medium. This is something that I am sure Steve would have told me if I had thought to ask. I was determined to have the pen one way or another.

I just wish I lived closer so I could drop into what sounds like a traditional pen shop rather than an anonymous warehouse on an industrial estate somewhere. The travel cost would be prohibitive though, around the cost of two mid-level fountain pens.

The only downside is that there is no way of seeing a stock list, which strikes me as a loss to customers as well as the business, but I understand Steve's reasoning for this. There may be pens he has in stock that would interest me, or perhaps a suggestion of something that I might like to consider, but I have nothing particular in mind at the moment.

I am in the process of ordering another pen, if he still has it in stock, so that must say something for the customer service.
