Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 1,332 reviews, reviewers overwhelmingly had a great experience with this company. Many customers praise the staff for being lovely, kind, and supportive, often going above and beyond to show compassion to pets and their owners. The service is frequently described as amazing and invaluable, with many appreciating the professionalism and the ability to receive affordable treatment, especially for those on limited incomes. People are particularly grateful for the care received, with several noting that the company made it possible to keep their beloved pets healthy. However, some customers also noted issues with customer service, mentioning long waiting times for appointments and feeling that their concerns were not adequately addressed, even when their pets were in pain. A few other people also felt that the pricing for certain services, particularly emergency consultations, was unexpectedly high, and some experienced rude or unprofessional behavior from reception staff.

About PDSA

Written by the company

As the UK’s largest veterinary charity, PDSA is dedicated to supporting people and their pets. PDSA provides free and low-cost vet care in 49 Pet Hospitals across the UK to people that can’t afford the full cost of their pet’s care, ensuring that pets and their families can stay together longer.

PDSA is the vet charity for pets in need. Every day in our Pet Hospitals across the UK, PDSA vets and vet nurses protect the special bond between owners and their four-legged friends by providing veterinary care to sick and injured pets whose owners otherwise couldn’t afford to pay the full cost of treatment.

PDSA also offers pet welfare education and practical preventive support to combat the unnecessary illness, pain and suffering of pets in low-income households.

Whether it’s supporting pet owners with free advice on our Pet Health Hub, raising awareness of issues such as obesity, or recognising animals who have demonstrated acts of bravery through our Animal Awards programme – we know how important animals are.

Every year, PDSA vets and vet nurses treat over 430,000 pets throughout our 49 Pet Hospitals – that’s 10 pets every single minute. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on public support to continue our work.

I am absolutely appalled by the…

I am absolutely appalled by the treatment and lack of care I have received from the PDSA.

My dog, who is normally like a tornado around the house, can now barely walk. It has now been nearly 48 hours of her being in obvious pain and distress.

At 6:30am this morning I contacted the emergency line because she was laying on the sofa shaking, dribbling, refusing food and clearly not herself. I was told I needed a video consultation through a company called VidiVet, who to be fair were fantastic and got back to me quickly. I understood at that point that they did not believe it was life-threatening, however the vet advised me to contact the PDSA at 9am for an appointment.

That is exactly what I did, only to basically be made to repeat the entire process all over again — except this time I couldn’t even upload videos. I genuinely do not understand how I am supposed to show how unwell my dog is through a single photo.

I then received an email stating somebody would get back to me within 24 hours, but that it could take up to 5 days. By early evening my dog had become even worse, so I called back as instructed if her condition deteriorated.

I was then asked to send even more videos via email, which I did. Bearing in mind my dog was laying on the bed shivering, dribbling and refusing food. They then insisted I take a video of her walking. I explained multiple times that she was clearly in pain and did not want to walk — when I put her on the floor she simply sat down — but they still insisted I force her to do it for the video.

After all of that, I was then told I would receive a phone call sometime between 9am–5pm tomorrow to speak to a vet.

I am honestly devastated and disgusted that they still refused to physically see her despite her condition worsening. I explained she had barely eaten for nearly 24 hours and all I wanted was for somebody to help relieve her pain. I even explained that I was willing to travel and willing to pay whatever was needed, yet I was simply told to go elsewhere.

No pet owner should be left feeling this helpless while their animal is suffering.

Absolutely disgusted with the treatment…

Absolutely disgusted with the treatment of my daughter when she took her young cat to pdsa Bridgend, she has been told to foot a bill of £375, she explained that she was in receipt of relevant benefits, had to pay £15 before they even looked at him. How can they call themselves a caring charity when they demand money off people who clearly can't afford it.livid is an understatement. Staff very abrupt and rude.
