I’ve used PayPal for years without an issues, until recently when I needed to open a dispute.
Well what can I say I’ve never seen such a broken horrific system in my life. The system actively aids and helps fraud theft. All the person that’s committed the fraud has to do to win a case is not respond to the dispute. It’s so ridiculous to navigate the dispute / resolution system it’s a joke. You are given timelines to appeal, but you have to find the non existent appeal button first as it’s not on the app or desktop site. The escalate system is just as bad you have a 24hr deadline but again you can’t hit escalate in the 24hr period then you get a message saying case closed and no amount of talking to customer service (if you can get to a person) helps they literally might as well have a robot sitting there because the repeat one sentence over and over again. In my case the item purchased was never sent, the company didn’t respond so they won, said company then replied to my review on their website stating they are having problems and sorting things out (this was a year after the purchase) another year on nothing changed.
reason for my review on PayPal now? My partner has had his PayPal used to purchase some form of travel/event tickets at 4am in the morning (fast asleep in bed at that time) he can’t supply any details other than the website because he didn’t purchase them they unsurprisingly ruled in favour of the company. No appeal button (shocker) he is on the phone waiting to talk to someone. Bear in mind he is disabled in a wheelchair (amputee) and can’t use whatever tickets have been purchased fraudulently.
Do PayPal care? No they don’t they got their money you can just F off.
I thought virgin media was the worst customer service but PayPal makes them look positively competent.
0 Stars for this scam company that steals your money
Had to put a star in otherwise u can’t write the review. It’s actually 0 to minus 5. Got the same as all other people say. Cut a long story short. Bought item, send it back signed for with tracking. Shop received it and said I ordered the wrong item and doesn’t want to refund. That was the third time I had contact with them. And all that comes from that business is ridiculous awful rudeness and lies lies and more lies. Opened case, dispute, and it went on for 3 months and was closed on the 24/3 by PayPal saying I didn’t submit enough info even if the item gone back with tracking number that’s on file there and been delivered. They just dismissed me so rude and without any help or assistance and decided for the seller. Well PayPal has become another useless scam company that steals and makes money out of customers. Looks like they do dismiss cases from customers and share the money with the business and we as customers get nothing. What a scam that is. They should not be allowed to exist and allowed doing such things. Now I try to close my account on top of that and it’s so difficult and no help and absolutely no customer service at all. And I was with them over 20 years. It’s disgusting and something needs to be done to stop them as it includes money transfers and scamming of citizens.
I love PayPal …
I love PayPal and find anyone giving them bad reviews aren't using the PayPal that's been loyal to me since it's establishment.
Very poor PayPal UK
I am extremely dissatisfied with the level of customer service and issue resolution I have received.
I applied for a PayPal debit card and received confirmation that my application was successful. However, when attempting to view my card details, I was met with an error message instructing me to contact customer service.
I initially contacted PayPal via online chat and was told there was a “security issue,” but the agent was unable to resolve it. I then contacted PayPal’s security team directly, who contradicted this and stated there were no issues on my account — despite the fact I still could not access or use my card.
After trying multiple devices and browsers, I was eventually able to view the card details via Safari, but when attempting to use the card, it was declined as “not authorised.”
I contacted PayPal security again, only to be told once more that there were no issues. Instead of investigating the fault, I was offered a physical card as a workaround, which does not address the underlying problem with the virtual card.
When I requested further investigation, I was placed on hold for over 20 minutes, only for the call to be disconnected without any follow-up or callback.
At this point, I had already spent approximately two hours trying to resolve the issue.
I then contacted customer service again and requested to speak with a manager, also asking why no one had attempted to call me back. I was informed that callbacks are not available on weekends, which is unacceptable for a financial service provider. I was then placed on hold again (after being told notes would be updated), and have now been waiting over 35 minutes with no updates, no apology, and no resolution.
Key issues:
* Conflicting information between departments
* No proper investigation into a clear technical or security fault
* Lack of ownership or accountability
* Excessive hold times and poor call handling
* No callback despite disconnection
* Ineffective escalation process
This experience shows a serious breakdown in customer support processes, particularly around issue tracking and escalation. I would expect far better from a company handling financial services.
I am still without a working debit card and without any clear explanation or resolution.
Poor customer service
Very poor payment protection. Someone sent a payment to me using the PayPal @ address rather than my email. They got the name slightly wrong and another user received the money.
A genuine mistake to make, and it shouldn’t be an issue to resolve, but they basically refused to help them saying there’s nothing they can do, which is clearly not true. If the payment had been sent by a fraudster, they could get it back, but as it wasn’t, they just wash their hands of it.
The sender told me that they went to their contacts, started typing my email address, and a dynamic search automatically came up with a user which they assumed to be me - they were searching their contacts after all, so not a completely daft assumption to make. They clicked it and sent the money. Turns out the dynamic search within the contacts area of an account will actually search for ANY user, rather than just those who you’ve previously dealt with. It’s a very flawed system and I imagine this kind of problem will happen a lot until they sort the issue.
I do use Paypal a lot, but now I’ve seen how little they’ll do to help someone with a problem, I’m going to stick with my credit card instead as there is much better payments protection.
Thank you Paypal
PayPal sorted my refund in 10 minutes, after EBay seller would not respond. Also EBay were no help whatsoever.

Ordered items from House of Fraser 46 items.
They arrived in two boxes and one bag boxes were badly damaged on arrival. One of the box with bath salt and bubble bath burst all over the items. I informed House of Fraser and let them know I would be returning my order I asked customer services for help to return the items. They told me to go to their portal and buy a returns label £4.99 I did this but unfortunately they give you one label for each order number.I had two boxes and a bag to return so required three labels. After several e-mails informing the of this and getting no help I asked for the items to be uplifted. I was told no I had to take them to the post office counter. E-mailed informing them that the boxes weighed over two stone each and the post office counter would not accept them. As an elderly pensioner I could not move the boxes. Eventually they agreed to get them uplifted by DPD I decided to take a picture of the DPD driver with my returns. He gave me two tickets with the tracking numbers. After e-mailing Frasers as I had not received my refund I was told they had not receive my returns. More e-mailing asked them to escalate my e-mail to a manager I sent the picture of the DPD driver collecting my returns and the tracking number tickets Eventually they said they had received the bag Meanwhile I received an e-mail from Frasers telling me that the chair I returned was not sold by them I e-mailed informing them I did not order a chair The chair was delivered to me I told them I did not want it as I never ordered it. Frasers said give it to charity we don’t want it Now I was getting upset about all this, it was stressing me out My conclusion is DPD had mixed up the returns and returned the wrong parcel to Frasers I asked Frasers to look into this with DPD and they were not interested They said I would not be refunded for the missing box and this applies with their terms and conditions.
I then contacted PayPal to raise a claim for the money I was owed from House of Fraser.
This too has been an absolute waste of time.
I sent all my information, pictures and tracking labels to PayPal.
In the information I sent I informed PayPal I sent two boxes and one parcel and house of Fraser claim they only received one box and I want refunded for the missing box which House of Fraser arranged collection with DPD
I now have an e- mail from PayPal telling me House of Fraser will refund my money once I return the second box to them.
Can anyone from House of Fraser or PayPal understand I don’t have the second box it was uplifted by DPD along with box one and a bag.
I have sent a picture of DPD uplifting my returns and I have the tracking numbers.
I’m closing my PayPal account as they have been no help in getting me my refund.

Worst Service ever
Have 10 unathorised transactions of 100-50 pounds some were refunded as i disputed and others were not even though they were done at the same time. i’m in -250 paypal is not helping at all worst service ever im now being charged a fee as im in a negative balance which is ruining my credit further thanks paypal. worst service and no support at all highly NOT recommended
Bad not working app
Cannot get through to anyone via telephone serious security flaws with the supposedly new user interface when using the app and browser on web. Updates do not take effect telephone numbers do not update and 2FA codes go through to the old number - now the introduction to a fake Ai that does not understand basic questions and keeps you going around in circles, cannot fully request personal data from the dpo there is nowhere for you to fully exercise your rights for your data without going around in circles so this is not an easy
Paypal has gone downhill
Paypal has gone downhill. Not enough that it has the most expensive conversion rate it also plays in the court of fraudsters. I bought an item from a Chinese company that showed delivered but obviously never arrived. Fake tracking probably. They closed the case in the seller’s favour and explained why they have done everything legally.
Out of pocket by £137 but now I made sure I will never contribute to any revenue for a company that is engaged in illegal practices and favours the scammers.
Rest in peace Praypal!

I took out a debit card with PayPal and when i try to add funds to my PayPal acocunt i keep getting an error that they are having trouble with this transaction despite using numerous cards. It has been like this for weeks and when contacting customer support chat they say wait 72 hours. I told them its been like this for weeks. No support from customer service.
Waste of Time
Yesterday I spent nearly an hour on the chat service trying to resolve my account issues, I needed to change my card details but couldn't as they had put a temporary block on my account. At 9.52am this morning I received an email that my account was restored, but then at 10.23am just 31 mins later I get an email saying my account has been deactivated. So I then spent another 20 mins on chat service only to find out my account had been deactivated due to `non activity'. Well they could have decided that yesterday instead of wasting my time trying to resolve my account issue only to then deactivate it.

I opened up a case with PayPal over a transaction with Ali express. They have closed my case and wrote to me informing I never submitted evidence. I did twice yet they have not protected me in any way. I will be closing my account with these cowboys, looks like many have had the same issue as me. I always thought it was a protected platform, I will only be using my credit cards from now on. DONT UAE PAYPAL THEY DO NOTHING TO ASSIST YOU AT ALL !!!!!
In bed with fraudsters?
In bed with fraudsters?
I have had £127.20 in total taken in 6 transactions** from my PayPal account for purchases from uu uu uu perksatwork dot com A company that I have never used or heard of before.
I have disputed the transactions but PayPal seem to want to side with perksatwork!!
I received no notification of the transactions and it was only by luck that I checked my account as I hadn't used PayPal for a couple of months.
This company relies heavily on AI bots and automation but apparently it's too dumb not to flag the transactions (detailed below) immediately as fraudulent. Any human looking at them would do so, so why can't PayPal AI???
Looks like I am going to have to fight this £127.20 debt in court.
Pull your finger out PayPal and get in bed with your customers instead, because you've just lost another one!

PayPal seem to side with sellers even with sellers dodgy tricks. A seller wouldn’t issue return label for me. Offered me 20 percent refund and keep goods unfit for purpose. And to sell on to family or friends 😳They upped the offer to half the value I accepted they never honoured it. I raised a PayPal case the seller asked me to close the claim and would refund me. I escalated the case to PayPal who found the seller correct. How can it be correct if a seller offers you a refund and asks you to sell the goods to family or friends and refund you nothing and get away with that surely consumers have rights against poor quality I’ll fitting goods. PayPal gave me a goodwill gesture. Whoop whoop looks like seller won I’m down cash and PayPal paid for their bad selling tactics and I’m left with goods not fit for purpose

I spent 1 hour 5 minutes( most of this time on hold) trying to to get customer service to tell me why I was being asked to pay over £400 for an account that I did not think I have. I was asked to supply all/ any email addresses I have but as thy did not match I was told I would have to pay even though I do not know what this is for as I do not have an account. They cut me off at the end so I will have to do it all again on Monday, help !!!!!
Awful company and service
Awful company and service. I only use PayPal connected to my ebay. Twickets only use PayPal and then you can change payment method to cards. But you need to log in and authenticat yourself 1st. Logged in with my password. Code sent to my email. Fine. Memorable information I gave was fine. I submitted a scan of my driving licence front and back fine. Another authenticator code sent to my old phone number. Rang them explained the issue I need to change my phone number ive given all of that information to prove who I am and because I haven't used PayPal for 3 years my bank card is expired so because I dont have the last 4 digits of the card number which is now expired they wont change my phone number so I now cant access it at all. What an absolute joke and piss take so I now cant use twickets amd buy my concert tickets so 4 lots of checks and proof and still nothing. I would mind but how can I rob or rip myself off the balance is nil. Ffffing useless 😑
Scam refund from unknown company
Receivd an email from PayPal regarding a suspicious payment to my a/c asking me to contact them ASAP,
1. Tel No. Provided was for USA
2, contacted pp via website to advise that I have never had any dealings with the suspicious company, the payment to my account is in Philippines peso?
Req that they return the pymnt to them, I am concerned this is the beginning of a scam.
Paypal have allegedly investigated deemed this comp OK, I am unable to appeal & very worried that the next thing will be this company asking for large payments.
So I am now considering closing my account which I have had for many years & until now felt very safe.
