Excessive charges, failing to refund and gdpr issues

Same with me, i thought it was a legit gov website wasn't until my wife asked why i'd paid so much for this service? i thought it was just gov price hikes. I contacted them and explained their website was misleading and they offered about £70 refund to my original payment method and this hasn't materialised. I'd also asked about what personal information of mine they are retaining and they have failed to respond to this (which i believe is a gdpr breach).

Today i have asked for the agreed refund again and personal data.

So wonder if they've already sold my data or there's a clone passport?

I would say my passport did turn up - it's just that this company are misleading people and for what they actually do the mark up is excessive.

Scam

Was in a hurry and mistook this for the official GOV website, which is what they hope for. They then charge £70 to do pretty much nothing. My fault for rushing but they are an absolute scam of a site.

An underhand way of making money

Like others I clicked on the wrong link believing it to be a genuine UK passport link. So easy to be taken in.

If this helps....as soon as I realised my error I contacted my bank and cancelled my card. They told me the first payment had been declined but a second payment was pending.

I had by this time received an e mail confirming my application which (to my surprise) I was able to reply to. So I replied and said the application was made in error and I would like to cancel the application and receive a refund.

I had a response within 2 hours offering me a 50% refund for the service charge in order to process my application. I replied by reiterating I wanted to cancel the application and have a refund....to my surprise a few hours later I had an e mail agreeing to the refund and a few hours later another e mail confirming the refund had been authorised with a deduction of £15 for processing fees.

I was sceptical as to whether I would get a refund but in all fairness 48 hours later my account was refunded.

It is worrying where data has been uploaded to. If this was a real scam then there wouldn't be contact or refunds. At best it is an underhand way of making money through a legal loophole that allows this to happen.

My advice is act quickly. Ask for a refund before any processing can take place.

Hope this helps.

This company is an absolute fraud and…

This company is an absolute fraud and when searching for renewal comes at the top of the search, embarrassing that a fell for it! Advised 50% refund as soon as I contested and then had nil communication from them even though I emailed them over and over again! I’m shocked they can even trade as they do! Disgusted by this company! fraudsters!

Disguised as a gov website

Disguised as a gov website. It’s not. Its in the small print but you won’t see that unless less you really look for it. Charges an extra £ 70, is a us based merchant (not uk) and is a deliberate ploy to take your money. There is absolutely no indication of the extra charges, until the end. As soon as i asked them to cancel (my bank told me to contest the merchant), they then processed the order with the passport office. Presumably to secure some form of payment / leverage. There are no company details, no vat registration, it’s an unknown us based merchant and a scam. Stupidly, I fell for it like everyone else on this thread please don’t use - these are your most important identification details and you don’t know who you’re sharing them with.

Avoid at all costs

Thought this was a gov site when I ordered my renewal, only realised when tried to pay my bank had stopped payment going through and texted to ensure it was me using card, stupidly I said yes it was OK and 158.50 charge came out. They had tried to take payment 7 times but my bank had stopped 6 of them let the last one through as I said it was me.
My card has been cancelled and waiting on a new one meanwhile heard from pass apply via email as I sent a very angry email to them to say they are refunding me the £70 they took as my details will be changing not sure what will happen but hopefully I get it.
So annoyed that I fell victim to this 😒

Am also angry about this con

Am also angry about this con - and yes, I’m another victim. ActionFraud (a police fraud reporting site) describe fraud as trickery used to gain a dishonest advantage, which is often financial, over another person.
I tried to pay using a Nationwide account and to their credit they blocked the payment - but foolishly I just used my First direct card. NW then phoned to alert me to the dubious nature of the transaction and have stopped my card and sent another. I tried to get the pending payment via FD stopped but they couldn’t. I’ve complained about FD fraud team laxity and this seems to have gone straight to ombudsman.I’ve had an email exchange with uk-passport.zendesk.com - with ‘Victoria and John’ they identify as. I demanded the £70 ‘service’ fee back as there is no service only a mail re- direct. I’ve filed a report with ActionFraud. It’s early days and I hope this info is useful to others. I don’t suppose anyone has an actual business address or/ and registration no for this company? My passport is actually being processed and the official office confirm this. Ian there was very interested and had spoken to another victim and told me ‘it shouldn’t be allowed’ and I am considering a complaint against uk passport office since they are allowing it by accepting the application - if they didn’t accept it a service wouldn’t have taken place. I’ll post an update if I have more concrete advice - how to get all your money back. Thanks
Late news: Company phoned and offered £50 and I said I would accept £55 (15 being the ‘card charge’). So - if I get it - raising a stink works.

Definitely a rip-off - but not sure it's an actual scam

Like most people probably, I only reviewed this company pass-apply-uk after it was too late - I had already given them my money for a passport renewal. So I stupidly used this site yesterday morning and paid £158 for a service that costs £88 if you use the official route. I was trying to check into my flight and suddenly realised my passport was already out of date so I was in a hurry to submit an application in the hopes of it arriving in time. I want to share what happened next in the hopes that others might avoid the mess I then got myself into...

So once I realised that I had mistakenly not used the official site, I came and read the reviews here and all the "scam" talk made me panic slightly. I cancelled my credit card (thinking it was in the hands of scammers) and then went onto the official site to order the passport properly (another £88 paid on a different card).
When I read the email that came back from this company, I do believe that they had actually processed my passport application. They gave me a "PEX" reference number and told me to send my old passport to an address in Corby - which I ignored. The application I did via the official channel gave me a PEX number and told me to send my old passport to an address in Hemel Hemstead - which I did.
I have had 2 official emails from the passport office with a reminder to send the passport - 1 to Corby and 1 to Hemel Hemstead.
I couldn't get through to pass-apply-uk so I sent an email to them saying it was a con and I wanted to cancel and get a full refund. A lady from Florida did return my call later the same day to ask how she could help. When I explained the situation she said they were a genuine company, providing a service, and she points out that the website does state they're a third party provider. When I insisted they added no service above and beyond the official service she offered to refund me half of the "service fee" of £70. I said I was not using their service at all as I had gone the official route and I wanted a full refund. She said they were unable to refund the £88 that they paid to the passport office - but they would refund my full £70. I had an email today saying they had processed a refund - which isn't showing on my credit card app - but maybe that's because I cancelled the card? Not sure - one for me to follow up.
But anyway. If you have inadvertently used this "company" and are feeling ripped off... I would advise you to follow up with them and get a full refund on your "service fee" but maybe don't go into full panic mode like I did and cancel credit cards and pay again to apply via the normal route. I suspect, given the follow up emails seem legitimate, that my new passport would have arrived if I'd have sent it to Corby. Would be good if some of the other reviewers that had already sent their passports could maybe leave an update to say whether the did actually arrive and what the timescale was? Hope this helps. I have certainly learned a lesson from it and will be checking all sites much more carefully from now on.

Fraud

was directed to this site via google…

was directed to this site via google thinking it was the official government site! Looks very similar and was rushing as had just realised my passport was out of date and holiday coming up, as soon as I paid I realised what I'd done, I contacted them and was told they couldn't do anything as it was already being processed ( I doubt this very much as it was out of their listed office hours) I eventually got offered 25% of the service fee back, I protested further as I felt I'd been mislead and they couldn't possibly have done anything as I was on to it so quickly. A full day later I'd heard nothing about my passport actually being ordered so had to re-order myself via the genuine site, I was concerned that the passport would never get ordered? they'd got my money! and all of my personal details!! I eventally got another email offering me 50% of the service fee back, I explained I had already ordered my own passport and did not require their 'service' The result was I've had to pay a £15 admin fee but they have refunded the £117 difference. Please be wary!! the site looks so much like the official one AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Not Official Passport Service

So, stupidly applied on 23rd June, and noticed immediately after payment that it was not the official website, and was charged £158.50 - very misleading website and will always show at the top of a Google search. Website states working Mon to Fri from 9am to 6.30pm - so not sure how they managed to try to start processing my application on a Sunday evening after 8pm, and then only trying to offer 25% of their service fee to be refunded. They didn't answer my 10pm email immediately after they sent theirs, and it's been email ping pong since today to get this resolved - nothing ever acknowledged. Requested that they do not process anything in my name due to the 14 day online Cooling Off period and Ombudsman to be involved. They don't have any details to confirm their identity or company in their T&C's or no phone number. They did call me from an 01256 number, but when you call back it goes to trying to connect, to an agent, to then voicemail. Got another phonecall today to say that the allowable refund would go up to 50% but I still said that you have and will not process anything in my name and I want a refund. So today I now have an email finally confirming my refund minus £15 for their card fees - I really don't mind the £15 as long as I get the majority of my money back. All I would say is persevere and fingers crossed you will get your money back.
The girl on the email/phone Nikki did try to help, and I do commend her as I was a bit argumentative on the phone!

How is this even allowed??

How is this even allowed??? 🤬 as with the other reviews I have fallen for exactly the same thing!! Am so angry with myself but even more that they are getting away with this, HOW??? Not once was the cost mentioned as I was filling in my information but when I questioned them they said it was in their disclaimer but I didn’t even see that. Now they’re offering me 25% refund, what a joke, if it was legit there’s no way you would be offered anything. Someone needs to seriously deal with this company it’s absolutely disgusting.
I must add that I have e-mailed them complaining + at first met with resistance but now have been granted my £70 back for the so-called service.
