Would reconsider insurance expense and prepack EVERYTHING myself
Satisfying aspects of our experience: Great price. Love supporting family owned / small businesses. We chose group shipping as we did not have anywhere near a whole container of belongings.
While 99% of our belongings arrived intact - for which we are grateful - there were some disappointing aspects of our experience:
1. I packed most of our belongings and the packers said they could not have done a better job. Of what they did pack, some big items were only bubble wrapped and not boxed and were damaged during transit. The company took no responsibility for cost of damage.
2. We paid over $500 for insurance. Minimum premium was advised as $100 in original email quote, it was not until issuance of the insurance certificate (i.e. paying for it) that it stated a minimum premium of $500 (possibly due to insured value - $15k - of our items. This wasn't clearly communicated prior to certificate issuance. I wouldn't waste money on insurance next time - unless I thought the ship would sink and lose ALL of our stuff.
3. Service was friendly, but only seemed organised and on top of things through quoting process. After this time I had to follow up to finalise and confirm our booking, and proactively follow up for updates.
Ok overall - did the job soundly, and imperfect service I can live with (we are human), but would reconsider insurance expense and prepack EVERYTHING myself.
