It is impossible to use this for verification. I either get blocked because it can't access camera, even though it has been given access or it says the camera is not working. Complete waste of time.
Absolutely useless at ID verification
Having used a few competing ID verification services from financial institutions without issue, I wasn't expecting a problem running my details through Onfido. That was until I got stuck in a loop with it telling me that my 2024 issue, 2034 expiry passport "Your ID is out of date!" and refusing to go any further. And that's after digitally reading the NFC chip as well as a photograph. It had one job to do...
Doesn't work
Doesn't work. Software doesn't work on android. Being used by halifax. I have since made a complaint to halifax and moving to nationwide. Any company working with these charlatans is best to avoid. They have not help or human in the loop, they basically hate their customers and will not interact with them.
CLUNKY, BUGGY, AWFUL SYSTEM
TAKE A PICTURE OF MY PASSPORT, EH? TOO BAD, I CAN'T BECAUSE YOUR STUPID FRAME ISN'T WHAT THE CAMERA ACTUALLY CAPTURES. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO LINE MY PASSPORT UP IN TIME WITHOUT BLUR.
Absolute nightmare
Absolute nightmare. I would give this system a score -infinity if I could. I had to cancel my trading 212 account because of this system. Aside from the fact that authentication by selfie is neither secure or nor reliable, the system simply does not work. I was initially able to set up an account from a trusted computer but about 8 or 10 months ago, it stopped working. I tried logging in from different trusted computers, tried different browsers, enabled the webcam, disabled VPN and security settings but no luck. It kept insisting that I scan a QR code. I eventually got hold of an android tablet and installed a QR code app (although I strongly object to their use on security grounds). Still wouldn't work. Then it insisted that I needed a smart phone. I don't own a smart phone and won't use one. None of this makes any sense. Nobody could explain why the system acted like this. I can only guess that it didn't like the fact that all of my trusted computers run debian or pureOS and the android system was modified, and there was something about it that the system didn't like but nobody could explain it. This system is an absolute nightmare and shows why AI cannot be trusted, and why there should always be a human operator who can make a final decision. When AI systems make decisions that humans can neither explain nor overwrite, we are in deep trouble.
Onfido has helped me save money.
This company sucks. Since they are on steam now i cant verify photos or pay. So steam gets no money now. Im cool with that, had to save more for groceries anyway.... Thanks onfido

Just open a CS ticket instead to verify.
If a service your using requires this, just skip it and go straight to the services customer support and open a ticket because this garbage WILL NOT WORK. Almost all the time once you get an email from the service you're using, they can verify it themselves or manually pass it on the Onfido to make sure that someone at their manually does it cause the only automation is to auto decline your verification.
Why are Professional companies using this poor underwhelming service ?
I have used Onfido since 2023, in order to have my personal details verified for a Solicitor's firm called Taylor-Rose, in order to sell two properties, one in 2023 and most recently in 2025.
In 2023, I spent hours trying to upload, my Passport photo onto the Taylor- Rose portal via Onfido.
Onfido wouldn't accept my photo, I tried and tried and the system kept on saying restart my Verification on my computer, this was from October 2023 until December 2023, and then a week before Christmas 2023, Onfido decided to accept my Passport photo.
Then, this year I had to sell another property and I didn't want to use Taylor -Rose and there portal which included Onfido but my brother did, so we used Onfido, and once again I struggled with Onfido, the system / App, kept on buffering on the tablet I was using, it just kept going around, and around as though the system was stuck, or basically broken. so once again I had to start the whole process again.
I struggled with Onfido, trying to complete a task which should take between 1-2 days at most uploading my Passport and proof of address, I used a Samsung phone, another Smartphone, a tablet and my computer all still failing badly trying to complete this basic task in the end in order to get my details verified, I went to the Taylor-Rose offices in Fulham, and had my details verified in person.
I paid a mini cab driver, to collect me, wait for me, and drop me back to my house, this cost me £100, this was done on Friday the 16th of May 2025.
So using Onfido in 2023 and 2025 has caused me a great amount of stress and frustration, Onfido now part of Entrust are not fit to run any type of facial Biometric ID service they claim to offer, they offer a truly dreadful poor service.
So in 2025, I started the process of using Onfido in March 2025, and my details where verified in person in May 2025, so this process / task took me three months to complete.
The only people who are laughing are the three Oxford graduates who created this garbage and sold Onfido for 100 million dollars / £79 million pounds in February 2024, plus if you ever get really bored type in Onfido gets sued in 2023 in America.
Video ID Won't Work
This seems to be a systemic issue, at least for customers of Trading212.
I've been a satisfied customer (of Trading212) until this faulty video ID process. As others I get an "Aw snap" while videoing my face. I know I am no oil painting but this is no good at all.
They have my money and I cannot get to it!

Totally unworthy and awful service. Companies must boycott this.
Utterly useless and time wasting
Utterly useless and time wasting. Why do any companies use them for verification? In trying to comply with their terms it is even possible to disclose secure private financial information. The worst of the worst.

Utterly useless. Multiple attempts failing with "Connection Lost", then once Passport finally accepted, but then the "Record video" fails you have to start the process all over again.
Companies using Onfido: it's a competitive disadvantage and causing you to lose customers.

Had to provide passport picture and selfie for identification. Accepted but later rejected as passport was a scan and not a photo. Why didn't it say so at first? Why didn't it reject immediately?

After research parent company is untrustworthy
Refused to use the identity software for trading 212 as I don't trust this company with my data after some due diligence, the parent company Entrust was removed from Google due to Over the past several years, publicly disclosed incident reports highlighted a pattern of concerning behaviors by Entrust that fall short of the above expectations, and has eroded confidence in their competence, reliability, and integrity as a publicly-trusted CA Owner". After messaging trading 212 asking for an alternative verification i was told there is none.

Companies should provide a better customer ID service than this one
Like other reviewers here, I've been trying to set up an account with Trading 212. Should be simple but their ID verification is via Onfido's shoddy software. It's meant to take a short video of me. Instead it cuts out after a second, with the optimistic error message: "The webpage could not be displayed. Reload". Surprise, no amount of re-loading or starting again fixes the problem. It has wasted my time - and I've been unable to set up an account.
SCAM 3000 EUR
I bought an annual subscription for 3000 EUR. Subscription was to include 1200 identity and document checks. My personal account has not been activated, no checks are performed.
I paid the annual subscription 3 weeks ago. Still nothing works and they ignore my messages.
They have scammed me for 3000 EUR. I DO NOT RECOMMEND WORKING WITH THEM!
