Fantastic organisation

If I could rate higher than 5 stars, I would.

I was dealing with severe OCD when I reached out to OCD Excellence, so I can only review the intensive course and associated aspects, but, for anyone unsure if seeking treatment with them is 'worth it'- YES!
I can confidently say that the help I received has given me my life back and has opened my future up to things I wouldn't have even considered possible for myself only 7 months ago.

I was afraid going into it that it wouldn't work, CAMHS and public practice let me down before and I admit I did worry that I was simply 'too far gone'. These concerns were mostly eased for me after hearing their past client successes during my own assessment and from the knowledge that the therapists themselves have OCD.
Regardless, I didn't want this worry to stop me from seeking help, and don't let any such concerns stop you either! Being healthy enough to enjoy life is and was absolutely worth doing something scary.

On that, though...
As a client, you must be willing to take responsibility and put in the effort. OCD, as the therapists of this organisation point out, is not something that can be cured. It is a lifelong condition that is about management, and you have to be willing to take ownership of that if you want the long-term benefits of the therapy.
I know a big part of how well the treatment worked for me is how resolute I was in participating and getting better.

Both of the senior therapists are wonderful. They are transparent and compassionate while providing firm boundaries on what will and won't help with recovery.

Overall... the intensive treatment and the organisation are fantastic!

Grateful to be back on track

As a parent of a son with OCD, I was desperate for help. CAMHS and the NHS had basically abandoned us. They had tried a little to be fair but when the CBT they offered didn't make any difference, they had no other options. The OCD was getting worse daily and he was losing his teenage years. No friends time, lots of missed school and he'll at home for all of us. When I first spoke to OCD Excellence I was in tears. God knows what they thought. But they listened and it was clear they knew ALOT about OCD. I just knew it made sense. We organised intensive sessions. My son was apprehensive but it wasn't anything to worry about. Yes, it wasn't easy. Yes, it took dedication but we went from a family with no support to a family with substantial, written guidelines. Months later, we are still supported. They offer support afterwards which we've not experienced before. Their parents course is an eye opener. Glad I did it. Recovery for a teenager isn't a straight line. It's bumpy and exasperating. But we have a line! We have progress. He even wants to be a therapist. I'm not sure where we would be had I not made that call. Thanks to them, school and friends are on track. Sigh of relief and thanks from us.

Restorative

I used OCD excellence approximately 3 years ago and didn't have the best experience with Emma. It was very upsetting and caused a lot of emotional distress. I wrote a review on here and India the owner got in touch. I appreciated that she wanted to resolve things and she approached things with a restorative approach. She called me and we talked things through. I appreciated that she asked how she could make things right, and showed concern about my personal circumstances. India refunded my fees from the assessment and session and also included admin fees in the refund. She also emailed me a clear plan that would prevent what happened in my complaint happening again. I think India handled this very well, she showed a lot of empathy, I don't trust therapists so it was hard to receive but she was empathetic and kind throughout the call, and I acknowledge her bravery in calling. She additionally sent some self-help resources as I won't ever go to a therapist again and am very firm on that, this was very kind and she did not have to go out of her way to do this. I'm giving 3 stars because of the distress and ripple effect caused on my life at the time, but apart from turning back time, there is nothing more she could do than she has already done and handled things perfectly and at a high standard. I appreciate her kindness, apology, reflection and humility.

The specialist certification has established me as the go-to OCD expert in my region. Physician referrals increased significantly after I distributed the credential information to local medical practices. My professional satisfaction has improved now that I work primarily with cases I'm passionate about.

Expert guidance that works

Tried so many things before finding OCD Excellence. What made the difference was how specialized they are - they knew exactly what questions to ask about my specific OCD subtype. The treatment plan was hard work but actually targeted the root of my problems.

Gradual but definite healing

Working with an actual OCD specialist made all the difference after years of minimal improvement. The exposure hierarchy we developed targeted my exact fears in a manageable way. I've reclaimed about 70% of the time previously lost to rituals and checking. Friends have noticed my increased confidence and decreased avoidance behaviors.

Compassionate approach

My online counselor never judged me for my intrusive thoughts which made me feel safe enough to be honest. She explained the science behind OCD which helped me stop blaming myself. The techniques we practiced actually work in real life not just during sessions.

Relief as parents

My husband and I finished the OCD Excellence parents course last year. It was 6 weeks long and I personally think that it changed our minds regarding OCD. I thought we knew so much before we started but we know much more now. It is a live and interactive course with other parents. There were tears and the reality of the devastation of OCD was obvious. I went on the journey with everyone else and came through with more education and actual skills to use as parents. Why doesn't anyone else offer this? We could have used this information years ago. To anyone thinking about the parents course, don't hesitate. It is life-changing and is delivered by qualified therapists with their own personal experience of OCD together with their experience treating people.

A breath of fresh air

We have been through such a tough time with our son who has OCD. He is not yet an adult and the resources for youngsters with OCD in the UK have been disappointing and demoralising. I emailed India at OCD Excellence in some desperation. I just didn't know what to do. Not only did she email back pretty promptly but she wrote a long reply with detailed feedback regarding our situation and recommendations for steps forward. I've never had a response like this in the time we have been dealing with OCD. Either there is no response, a standard response or a short answer. India gave more information in one email than I thought possible. She then called me back when I asked for a call. Our situation is quite complex and India's suggestions made sense, even though she was recommending that we need to take other steps first. I got a very personal and helpful reply and she had nothing to gain from it. She clearly cared, wanted to help and took a long time out of her day to do this. I just wanted to acknowledge this kindness.

Intensive Course - best decision I’ve ever made

I can't speak highly enough of India and her team - they have helped me out hugely in treating my OCD. I don't typically write reviews but I think it's very important in this case because when I was researching how to get treated written recommendations helped give me confidence in knowing that OCD Excellence are true experts in their field.

As some of the other reviews have you mentioned, you can't "cure" OCD, you can learn how best to manage it. If you're looking for a silver bullet where everything magically goes away then unfortunately you need to temper your expectations. However you are in the best hands possible on getting yourself into a state of recovery with OCD Excellence.

I had just started a new relationship and everything was going incredibly well until out the blue I started dealing with what is classified as Relationship OCD, specifically something called retroactive jealousy. I suddenly had a non-stop thought pattern for weeks which turned into months which took a serious affect on my overall health.

I realised that this constant rumination was just OCD and I needed to get treated. Having worked with various therapists over the years when dealing with some similar issues in a previous relationship was at my very lowest as I didn't know where to turn.
I signed up for a one week intensive course and it's the best decision I ever made. Intensive OCD treatment is evidence based to increase recovery times and while the price may seem like a lot 1. It's far cheaper than what you would pay for private treatment elsewhere and 2. What price can you put on being able to function in your day to day life? This was the point I was at!

The week itself is intense and requires a lot of homework. Learning what works best for you with ERP (Exposure Response Therapy) is a key part of the week and is the cornerstone of OCD treatment. India and her team have treated so many different types of OCD so can get quite creative on what works best!

She genuinely cares for her clients and stayed heavily in touch for my aftercare - I wasn't better a week after, the process took time (as do many hard things in life). However I have learnt the do's and don'ts on how to manage this condition and I feel so much better for it.

My 20 year old daughter was really…

My 20 year old daughter was really struggling with what started as a rituals OCD and then morphed into contamination OCD. She'd had three years worth of specialist CBT and therapy with counsellors but her OCD just got worse and worse until it was having such a debilitating impact on her life that I thought she might have to leave university. In the frantic search for help I came across the OCD Excellence website. She had two weeks intensive course with Steve Wignall, my husband and I did the 6 weeks parents and carers course to understand her OCD, and my daughter continues to get care and support from OCD Excellence. I don't think she's 'cured' but the change in her was pretty immediate and she is so much happier and leading a less fearful life. OCD Excellence's intensive course may seem expensive but it's cheaper than years of expensive and ultimately useless therapy. I've learnt from bitter experience, that any therapy without ERP is useless, so please check your therapists understand this or better yet just go straight to OCD excellence. Thank you Thank you - A happy mum.

A life changing counselling experience

6 months after I finished my weekly course with OCD Excellence I wanted to leave a review due to the lasting and remarkable impact this course has had. I chose OCD Excellence for my therapy due to the focus on specific OCD sub types as well as targeting OCD generally. The therapy I received targeted particular issues I was facing at the time, but very much taught me skills and techniques to deal with OCD generally. It was a very structured programme to help deal with my thinking patterns. My therapist had a great way of approaching these as well, clearly caring a lot about the specific things going on, and having the expertise to help me overcome them. As the programme progressed, the way I thought about different situations in life changed for the better and when the programme finished I felt like a new person, being able to handle things with less anxiety and being more myself than I have in the past. 6 months on, I am very glad to say that I am able to incorporate the techniques into my life and my day to day attitude to life and the future is a lot more positive and confident. Thank you OCD Excellence - well worth the money and the best investment I've ever made!

I don't know where we would be without them

We came across OCD excellence a few years ago for the first time. At that point my partner's OCD had, within the course of a few weeks, taken over his and my whole life and the days consisted of getting through the work day and then anxiety ridden day and nights. We got in touch with the team and they assessed the situation and my partner started an intensive treatment with them shortly after. Within a few days that India worked with him, he got back his control over his thoughts, his anxiety and was able to be positive again. It was hard work, it was uncomfortable at times, exhausting BUT IT WORKED!  I also got to join a session where I met the therapist and she talked to me about the situation, my perspective, explained OCD to me and what I should and should not do (spoiler:it's counter intuitive) to help my partner.
We both came out of the intensive in a much better situation and with a tool set that helped us handling the OCD well, if used regularly, as it's a managed condition.
...
Unfortunately we slipped a bit with that and 2 years later found ourselves in a similar situation. Again, we got in touch with OCD Excellence and they accommodated us during a really busy time. The experience has been the same. Within a few days they managed to turn things around for us and to let us get back to our lifes. Also, during the pandemic they organised weekly online group sessions as they know the impact massive changes in life can have on OCD sufferers. That group lasted through the length of the pandemic and for us made sure that we could keep on top of things.
Also, just like someone else who reviewed here, the main reason I am writing this is due to the negative review. It is not something I like to talk about, not even with close friends and has been a tough time for both of us. But I don't want to imagine how much worse things would have become had we not found them in time. And I want to make sure that other people have a chance to discover them as well as they really, really helped us.

Would give more than 5 stars if i could.

I did weekly sessions and they really helped. It was difficult, and i was asked to do a lot of work outside of the sessions (ERP), but my therapist guided me through it and eventually i got there. Its now night and day when i think of how much I used to let my OCD control me and how much better at dealing with it i am.

They also wrote to my University on my request and I was given extra support for course work and during exams.

Life Changing for the better

Words cannot describe how much OCD Excellence has changed my life for the better. After doing an intensive with India including follow up sessions I have gained skills to manage my OCD effectively and can live a valued focused life alongside my OCD. Going down the private therapy route has been the best decision I’ve made. India’s approach to me was very compassionate and understanding and tailored to my needs. Communication was great and clear on how to proceed managing my OCD in my everyday life. I would highly recommend OCD Excellence to anyone who is struggling with their OCD, as the skills I have learnt I feel are priceless and life changing. So thank you!
