Oaken Financial Review

All went well except for the main interaction I had with the woman who answered the phone when I called for information and to set things up. I’m not sure if we just didn’t understand each other, or what transpired. All I recall is being frustrated.
Aside from that, all has gone well. The accounts were set up and info was mailed to me, including my GIC certificate.
I was most impressed that a few months later (not sure of the exact time frame) someone contacted me by phone and, as I wasn’t home then, left a message with a call back number asking if I had any questions, etc… Nice touch.

My concern was keeping my investments…

My concern was keeping my investments within limits that were protected by insurance. Oaken representative was very helpful in this regard.

I think the rates are competitive for…

I think the rates are competitive for sure but the process of applying and getting approved was very long and tedious and required me to phone in mnmay times to sort things out. Those I spoke to were helpful but the entire process was not really an easy online approach.

We got there in the end!

I have been waiting two weeks for money to be transfered into my saving account from my home bank. I called today and got a very nice young man who helped me out and apparently all will be well. But both of us were surprised that I had not been contacted by Oaken sooner. I was under the opinion that perhaps you didn't want my money.

Happy customer

Though living in the US, I was able to invest in a GIC at Oaken. I am a Canadian citizen and while other Canadian financial institution refused me, Oaken accepted my investment. The rate was much better than what the big banks(RBC, etc) had to offer. Good customer service as well. I will definitely continue to invest at Oaken Financial.

Some issues with the platform!

I experienced problems with changing my password when I first activated my account. The system said the password was updated but every time I tried logging in it failed.
My wife and I also experienced errors when we linked our ATB accounts to enable us to transfer money.
I was not very impressed and thought about cancelling my account. However, once these issues were overcome it has been pretty smooth. I was able to easily create a GIC account and the online platform provides up to the day balances.

Very efficient

Once I got the required forms correct it was easy. I found that it took a little bit too long to go through all the whole process. Customer service is excellent. They help you with the forms and were very pleasant and patient with me. I would recommend Oaken to anyone who wishes to get a little more interest on their GIC investments.

Likely the best interest rate for GICs

Likely the best interest rate for GICs, and the e-savings rate is excellent as well. The online transfer process was quick & user-friendly. Overall, very satisfied.

Oaken Experience

Hi. My experience to date with Oaken has been excellent save and except the time required for transfer of Registered Account funds.
The process from start to finish is taking some 21 days before transferred funds are fully released and secured in my account.

I can only guess that COVID protocols

I can only guess that COVID protocols, including staff working from home made my experience atypical.
In short, it was very difficult to complete the application process. It took weeks rather than the day or two expected. Oaken did not reach out to tell me what information was missing... I only discovered the reasons for delays by phoning many times and on each occasion there was some different documentation required.
I can only hope that future dealings will be smoother and that if information is missing, Oaken will take the initiative to inform me in a timely manner.

I am pleased with the service I have…

I am pleased with the service I have received at Oaken especially the customer service toll free line. They take the time to solve problems and do not rush things until you understand what is happening. I would however like to see them offer $US savings accounts in addition to what they currently offer.

Seniors

I am a senior and very much appreciate and understand your telephone help. Both my wife and I are new investors and are thankful of the patience and knowledge of the people helping us invest. Also the follow up. We are waiting for a rate increase to invest more.
