We booked a holiday to Sri Lanka and contacted our NHS surgery in good time to arrange vaccinations. What we hadn’t anticipated was how far in advance nurse appointments were booked up; they simply couldn’t fit us in.
We reached out to the travel clinic and they arranged to see us the following week for an assessment. They sent us forms that were easy to complete on our phones. When my husband forgot to submit his vaccination history, they followed up with a friendly phone call to make sure everything was in place.
Communication throughout was excellent.
At the clinic, we were seen on time. Bronwyn, supported by Dr Gemma Heard, took the lead. Bronwyn was new to the vaccination team, but their collaboration was seamless.
They took time to understand our travel plans and walked us through both the recommended vaccinations and those worth considering based on location and risk. Each option was explained thoroughly - including side effects, effectiveness, and longevity, with references provided so we could read more if we wished.
There was no pressure, no scaremongering - just facts. We felt informed, reassured, and confident in our decisions. Bronwyn was incredibly skilled at administering the injections - we barely felt them, and we had quite a few: Hep A, rabies, typhoid, tetanus.
We asked several questions, mostly about risks and side effects, and every one was answered with care and clarity.
As someone with health concerns, I had done my own research beforehand. But being able to discuss our needs with professionals like Bronwyn and Dr Gemma made all the difference. Their expertise and approach gave us peace of mind.
