Night Zookeeper
Fantastically Fun Learning
Night Zookeeper is a London-based children’s brand comprising of an online learning program, a book series and a TV mini-series. All of our products centre around the magical world of the “Night Zoo”. Our aim is to make learning fantastically fun for children aged 6 to 12 years old, and unlock their creativity in the process. Our reading and writing program has been used by over 1 million children worldwide.
Night Zookeeper was founded in 2012 by Joshua Davidson and Paul Hutson. Our e-learning product was originally launched in November 2012 as a creative drawing iOS app for kids, which went on to be recognised as one of the 50 best apps of 2013 by The Observer and The Guardian.
In 2014, we revamped the app into a web version which included more extensive writing elements, a dashboard for monitoring progress and personalised feedback from tutors. Over 1 billion words have been written by children on the site. Night Zookeeper is also used in schools by teachers worldwide in an effort to harness the power of digital learning in the classroom.
Throughout the pandemic, Night Zookeeper was able to act as a useful resource for families around the world to keep their children learning as schools were forced to close and remote learning took hold.
As of 2024, our program is used by thousands of children in several countries as a way to improve their reading and writing skills in a fantastically fun way, whether as part of a homeschool, in the classroom, as a supplementary resource, or simply a productive form of screen-time.

My daughter Brandise has been using Night Zookeeper for about 7 months now, and I’ve seen incredible growth in her creative writing. She has brain-based learning disabilities and has often struggled with vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure. But this program has been a real turning point—she’s come out of her shell, become more expressive, and actually enjoys writing now. In fact, her progress was recognized at her 5th grade graduation, where she received the Certificate of Achievement for Writing Growth. That moment made us so proud, and I credit Night Zookeeper as the catalyst behind her motivation and passion for writing.
Night Zookeeper makes writing fun and motivating with its creative prompts and encouraging feedback. My only suggestion would be to include a bit more focus on grammar and mechanics alongside the creativity. Overall, it’s been a wonderful tool that has inspired my child to truly love writing.

Both of my kids love this app! My younger one went from hating doing anything involving reading, to begging to play every day. Its very engaging, and the moderators give great feedback on the kids writing. Ive already recommended it to multiple friends for their kids!

We've been a homeschooling family since the beginning of (my oldest is now 17) and have struggled to find the right programs and educational resources that fit my kids' learning styles. We are always looking for fun and innovative ways to learn that also challenge them and adapt to their age range, 9 & 17. So far, they are absolutely LOVING this and asking to do it for fun in their FREETIME!!! So that is a BIG win for me. Not only that, but I know they are learning and being challenged in a unique way. They both thrive on independent learning, but need some structure and guidance. This one program makes everyone happy. Mom and kid/teen approved! It's a great way to "gamify" learning about language arts/grammar that might otherwise be boring. (I wish I'd had this when I was a kid!)

This program has helped my daughter gain confidence in her reading and writing abilities. She has always struggled with both since she is dyslexic and since getting this program for her I've seen so much change! Highly recommend!

My daughter used this a few times, and she enjoyed it at first, but then she became bored. So, I cancelled online, and then months later I noticed I was charged on the auto-renewal. They claim it was not cancelled and do not want to give a refund. Note: They give you a really hard time with this. I am surprised at how poor the customer service is when it comes to billing. We had not used the service for more than 6 months, and they are playing games to get more money out of me even after cancelling.

My kids love it. I didn't give it 5 stars because it isn't exactly what I was looking for and I'm not sure it's fully worth the money. But my kids do enjoy it and are always asking to play it. It does a lot of spelling correctly, synonyms, antonyms, writing stories, rhyming, adjectives, and details.

My daughter loves Night Zookeeper! It is a great addition to our homeschool curriculum. My daughter never liked to write, but she loves writing and sharing stories on Night Zookeeper. I really like the community aspect of Night Zookeeper, and how interactive it is.

I have a 14-year-old struggling reader with multiple learning disabilities. Night Zookeeper seems like a fairly good fit for her so far (just our 1st day though.) The gaming part of it seems a bit juvenile to her (she regularly plays games like SIMS 4, not approved for Kindergarten), but with her sarcastic teenage personality, she's determined to make every creature as weird and insanely funny as possible. I chose this for her due to her below grade level reading/writing and her preference for video learning style. We will give it a few months and re-evaluate

The app has been good but I think it can be a little to overwhelming at times and doesn’t really give a specific lesson. Also, definitely needs to be a keep me signed in box. Otherwise my kids like it and feel as if they are playing a game- which I hope this will reflect in real time.

I love using the platform to keep my children engaged and excited about writing and language arts while playing games. It's a fantastic way for them to learn and have fun at the same time!

My kids love Night Zookeeper. It gives them a chance to let their imaginations run wild and the fact that they are writing it out has really helped them get used to putting their thoughts on the page.

Honestly, I didn’t explore much because I left feeling a bit frustrated every time I logged in. The layout isn’t very user-friendly for me, and the colors aren’t calming — they actually made it harder to stay focused. I’d like to see things laid out more clearly with a calmer design so the experience feels easier and more inviting.I’d really like to come back and try again if things change any time soon
