Do not stand by product very bad customer service. When you buy the doors they go above and beyond when you receive them and have an issue nowhere to be found.

I went onto the nicks building supply…

I went onto the nicks building supply website and filled out their special order from so that they understood what I needed to order some 8'0x2'8 doors. the order from was mis read, and mis ordered for 80" doors not 8'0" doors. partly my fault for not checking their work better. fast forward 6 weeks the doors how up and are too short. I reached out to nicks to find a solution to the doors being wrong and was told that I would have to eat the wrong doors and order more doors and wait another five to six weeks to have them delivered. i was then told by two people including the operations manager that I could simply sell the wrong doors on Facebook. After sending proof they messed up the operations manager offered to waive the 25% restocking fee if I paid to ship the wrong doors back and then paid to ship the correct doors to my jobsite. over $2000.00 worth of shipping alone. I wouldn't recommend Nicks building supply, these were in stock door blanks not custom made. should have been a home run for them, easy order. it has been two days with multiple non returned phone calls and emails. I'm out 8800.00 and still need doors for a new house.

Update:
after working with John and Whitney from nicks building supply, we got this all worked out. Nicks building supply picked up the return shipping and waived any restocking fees for me and expedited my replacement order and they are shipping out tomorrow. Although this order didn't go perfectly from the start I would recommend working with them any time. Very well done

Had issues with door from day one

Had issues with door from day one. Customer service is below par. No call backs, they basically hope the client just stops complaining and just go away.

Response to Nicks Doors. Nicks did send me a check for $1200 not $3500 to cover the cost of uninstalling/reinstalling and cutting the frame/jam of door, to try to fix the problem. Besides shipping a door with wrong size jam (even when told doors are assembled and inspected prior to shipping) The door was not cut square at the factory and was told would be looking into possible adjustable hinges to fix the problem and never heard back. I was more than patient and was just going to let it go but after looking at a gap between the double doors everyday had to say something to let others be aware.

Unhappy customer

Purchased the Sunrise mahogany door in May 2015 for my new construction house. Closed on the home in Dec. 2015 and shortly thereafter noticed that all 16 panes of double pane glass were leaking and causing them to become cloudy on the inside. Have been trying for years to come to a resolution with Nick's, but have been unsuccessful.

Rare Find!

My teenage grandson accidentally drove his dad’s car through my garage door, necessitating a search for a replacement. The destroyed door was a fine, raised panel wood door that complemented our detached garage.

Finding a wood door, equivalent or better, proved difficult even in the Los Angeles area. Wood garage doors are a tiny segment of the market and many suppliers have a few if any offerings.

Thus I was thrilled to find Nick’s Building Supply with an Internet search. Nick’s has an amazing collection of designs, sizes and wood options. As it had been forty years since I had installed my original door, there was a degree of sticker shock associated with today’s prices. But I soon learned that even a standard wood door cost thousands of dollars.
After an exhausting search, it became clear that Nick’s doors were an unbeatable value, stylish and of outstanding, almost unheard of construction and craftsmanship. The Western red cedar is beautiful.

Cindy A was quick to answer all my questions over the phone or by email and was a joy to work with.

My door arrived, very well protected in a wooden “coffin” and survived the cross-country trek without a scratch.

I look forward to staining it and restoring the beauty and curb appeal of our garage.

Nick's doors... The Best!

Well, I have to say that this company stood by there doors and even remade them after a mistake was made in the placement of the knob holes. They remade the doors and were respectful and polite to me at every step along the way... Liz was most helpful and the costumer service manager was calm, thoughtful and address the problem right away. The doos look fantastic. I highly recommend Nick's doors to anyone having doors made for you new house project or old house project! A+++

Bait and switch

I purchased a door for over $6,800. After several days I began to contact them because I had not received any shipping information. Five times I was told I would be contacted by the end of the day with shipping information. I was finally told after contacting them again that they could not find my door. They had one on clearance that was the exact same model as the door I had already purchased but they wanted an additional $1,500 for it on top of the 68 I had already paid. They refuse to honor their contract and cancel the order. This door was the focal point of a major build and I feel they saw the opportunity to exploit another $1,500. Original price was refunded but I needed the door not the refund. The staff member I dealt with was arrogant and rude and when informed that I would file a BBC complaint he laughed and said good go ahead. In three decades of building I have never met worse customer service. Would not recommend
In response....no I did not want anything extra. I wanted the door I ordered. Nothing more, nothing extra. You want to make another $1500 for your mistake. Here's a tip. Don't list it if it's out of stock. Don't tell a customer that you have it if it's out stock. Don't take a customer's money if it's out of stock. And then don't delay them for a week and a half before trying to up sell them.
If it was an honest mistake you could have provided the door that you originally sold me, or found one that was comparable. You choose neither option. You choose to add $1500 more to an order that had been paid for.
When I make a mistake, I own it and do everything in my power to make right by the customer. I never asked for a discount or anything except for what I ordered and already paid for.
If you're that big of a business I'm sure you could have found a suitable replacement. The fact is you didn't want to. You wanted more money for the same door that just had a different stain.

Yes your door was out of stock. but the second door you choose was not the same exact door. the door you order was stain natural. the second door was a door we can build for you unfinished and the prices were completely different. we offer you 3 different options. option one find anthoer moder on the clearance door which you did but was 1000.00 more. option 2 was pick a custom door and we will make what ever you want. option 3 was a refund. we couldnt give you a door for 1000.00 more than what it was listed nobody could affford to do that.

then you call and said just refund you which we did. we are sorry for you frustration we did try to help you.

The customer placed an order online and bought a custom door on our clearance page.

A couple of of days later, we went to ship it, and it was out of stock.

So we gave the customer 3 options.

Option 1 pick another clearance door on our clearance page, and we will apply for the deposit

Option 2 a full refund immediately.

Option 3 Let us custom make a door of his choice, and we will apply the deposit.

He didn't like any of these options and wanted a door over 1000.00 more than what he paid for. there is no way someone can afford to lose 1000.00 extra.

Even if something is out of stock on Amazon, they just refund you without calling.

So the customer called back and said he wanted a refund, and he was contacting BBB.

So we immediately refunded him in full.

We are a factory its very hard to keep 100 percent accurate inventory on so many items.

and also yes you wanted a 1000.00 more door for replacement
It was an honest mistake. Things happen

I’ve had my door from Nick’s 5+ years…

I’ve had my door from Nick’s 5+ years now and ordering another one for a different exterior opening. Could not be happier with the performance of the first one. It is such a solid and secure door and jamb. The door is a little exposed but has held up excellently against the elements. Finish is still in excellent shape. Can’t beat the top quality at a reasonable price. Looking forward to another one for my front entry.

Total fraud

Total fraud. Do not buy from this so called "custom manufacturer". You will be deceived and completely ripped off. This company should no be allowed to mislead people into the lack of standards and low quality of their products. Customer service will not help you and give you the run around until you are exhausted. The owner DARED me to request a refund through my bank. NOT WORTH IT! BUYER BEWARE!

We had a good experience with our 10…

We had a good experience with our 10 stained and finished oak shaker door order from Nick's. I had my doubts after reading the reviews but decided to order from them.
Liz was great with all my order questions. I spoke with her several times and each time she was very helpful. We converted 3 bifold doors to regular doors and she let me know they could easily cut the 24" doors down to the necessary 22" size that we needed for only a $50 charge. I was very happy that I did not have to order a speciality door for our under stair closet. She asked the measurements and let me know they would be able to cut a regular shaker down to fit the opening. We now have a "Harry Potter" door under the stairs.
The stain had to be speciality matched and JJ was great with communicating and the match turned out well.
The estimated delivery time frame was accurate. There was great communication from Whitney about the date of delivery. I was concerned because we were going on vacation and I was afraid the delivery would be while we were gone. It worked out well and the delivery to my husband's work was came before we left. Luckily we were able to have the doors delivered to his work, so they could be offloaded by forklift. He said the packaging was great. They created a peaked top so there was no way anything could be stacked onto the doors. We live in Washington State, so they had quite a long journey to get to us.
One door jam and some scratches in it, but overall the installation went well for my DIY husband. All the doors and jams were marked well since they are shipped broken down. He only wished the hinge holes were not predrilled, those had to re-drilled to fit well.
We were happy with our order from Nick's and would order again from them.
Our house no longer has the 1980's look of golden oak hemlock doors.

Terrible Service for a Repeat Customer

I am building a Timber Frame Guest Cabin on my wooded property in South Central Indiana. Last fall I ordered a deluxe Mahogany door from Nicks. Cost including delivery was $5750.

As the project progressed, I recently ordered interior doors. Cost including delivery $5340. Shortly after I placed the order I discovered that Nicks double charged me, which had to be corrected.

So total business from me = $11,000. Nicks sent the doors, but my builder informed me that the order was short three wood jams for the two sets of bi-fold closet doors. On Sept 23, I called "John" on who was my primary contact on this order. The builder was by my side. We discussed the shortage. John said "I'll take care of it immediately and expedite the three pieces to the job site." Several times I checked with my builder and I asked him if he received the jams. No. Yesterday (Oct 4) I finally decided to contact John and asked why the pieces were not delivered. John was not available, but I left a message on his phone and also emailed him. To my surprise, John did not contact me. Rather "Dave" who is the service manager called. I called him back and Dave insisted that Nicks was not at fault. In fact, he blamed me saying that I authorized the order and they sent what I ordered. Sorry, but I'm not an expert on doors and door jambs and I consulted with John over the phone regarding what I needed. I challenged Dave saying why did John not take care of the issue like he promised 10 days ago. No answer. Why was Dave now handling the issue when all my contact was through John. Answer "Because I am the service manager". I told Dave I have a hard time understanding why they would not send the three wood pieces when I had done over $11,000 business with his company. His response: "Do you expect me to eat the $50 shipping charges with UPS?" His tone was unprofessional, rude and not at all customer focused. I asked him who in his management chain can I raise this further. He said "no one". He then threatened to hang up on me. I hung up, then called the main number and asked for John. After a brief wait, Dave came back on the phone. And I heard John speaking in the background! I hung up on Dave, sent John an email, and told him he was a coward since he promised me the followup which he did not do and now would not contact me by phone or email, turning the issue over to Dave to handle.

I called my contractor and he will make the door jambs I need.

This is the worst customer service I have experienced in a very long time. Nicks may produce quality doors, but their faulty billing and rude customer interactions with me should serve as a warning to other customers to take your business elsewhere!

Perfect Door!

My first review was about our customer service experience, which was excellent. This is about the door itself. We ordered a shaker style, 5 lite, mahogany door and had them stain it. The door is perfect! Not much more to say other than it was built exactly to specs and in less time than anticipated (by several weeks) and we are so glad we let them stain it. It's beautiful. We elected to pick the door up as we make that drive from time to time (coming from Florida) and so we met several of the people who had helped us on the phone. We arrived before the showroom was open but the ladies brought us right in and let us sign for the door in a matter of minutes. We pulled around to the loading door and met two of the friendliest guys you could ask for. The door was ready and waiting, they loaded it into our truck and waved us on our way. We could not be happier about the whole experience. The door is now installed and looks so good. We are more than pleased!

We purchased exterior mahogany double doors

We purchased exterior mahogany double entry doors. We are very pleased with the doors. Would we do it again, probably.

Now for all of your review readers please carefully read the following comments.

We looked for over a year to determine what we wanted to purchase. I talked twice to Dominic (Nick) Pitzel, the owner of the firm. Based on those conversations we were very concerned about doing business with Nick. We searched and found doors looking almost the same that advertised imported mahogany that were substantially cheaper. We spent a great deal of time talking with the dealer in California trying to really understand what we were going to receive. Just as we were about to order we asked the question, where are the doors made. China was the response and that killed any interest from our point of view, and any further discussion with that dealer. We then agreed that I would move very slowly with Nick's and was fortunate enough not to talk to Nick in the process.

The only delay we experienced was when our doors were scheduled to manufactured, the manufacturing manager gave me a quick call telling me Covid was running through his work force, and we would be delayed by a couple of weeks. It turned out to be three weeks which was fine.

Nick's web site is clear, very clear on the rules for shipping. Truck arrives, you inspect, then sign and unload. Best have a forklift handy if not using an unloading dock. We arranged for a forklift on delivery day and the truck making delivery had a rear power gate. Went very smoothly. PLEASE, PLEASE understand the Mahogany being used by Nick's is from south America. It is very dense (so dense that probably it does not float in water) and therefore very heavy. Guessing each door well north of 100 pounds.

Because of the weight strongly suggest you have an expert with the appropriate tools hang the doors for you. Yes, it raises the cost.

Finally, read the reviews for Nick's. Some are nonsense. Folks who complain about the shipping clearly did not read the website. Purchasing double doors from Nick's is NOT like buying a book from Amazon. Prime does not count and while you can complain about the shipping rules, they have been in effect for longer than Nick's has been in business. Not his fault.

When I look at the website in the reviews area the word "Average" is used to describe the ratings for Nick's. Average to me means a purchase is not without some risk. There is a review about a 1/8inch difference from specifications to what actually happened. That is a manufacturing defect and if not recognized, the buyer should take legal action, which is easier for someone who lives out of state than you might think.

As part of "Finally," Mr. Pitzel is well known by the various administrative bodies of the State of Indiana. Google will provide you with the results. Therefore, you should not be surprised if he is combative with you; and that is too bad.

Hope this helps.

Issues Satisfactorily Resolved

The first door I ordered from Nick's, I ordered without the clavos and other hardware—but they drilled all the holes, anyway! However, Nick's agreed that they had made the error, and I ordered another door (different style). Since our contractors were delayed in the installation, we didn't notice until several months later that there were several large, deep scratches on the glass, which would have been impossible for us to have accomplished. Dave (at Nick's) was very kind and reassuring as well as very professional, and got our door taken care of to our mutual satisfaction. Now our customized, distressed, and stained door looks great and is just the right combination of quality, security, and rustic good looks.

Hardware support

Hardware support. I would like to say I had 2 patio doors that have 3 lock system high security doors.. I have not been able to find hardware for these doors. Nick's team did a lot of research and found out my doors are special to Andersons doors and windows.

Thanks to the team they directed me to an anderson rep. where I can say the hardware is ordered and I won't have to replace these doors.

Nicks team has great customer support, and I really appreciate your help. Thanks
