They advertise the lowest rates. Then you get to the counter and they nickel and dime you. And give you incorrect information. I asked if I could use my EZ pass and was told that it wasn't accep... See more

Beware! They’ll rip u off
I booked a car for 3 days at Nextcar Santa Rosa airport. It should have been between 350 and 400 dollars, but I ended up paying 1300 Dollars for 3 days!!!
They didnt tell me I couldn’t leave the state and charged me extra pr mile.
Terrible service, scammers!
Dishonest Practices
Unless you have extra cash to give away, avoid NextCar!
This company is extremely unethical. I paid in full through Expedia, including car insurance, but NextCar refused to release the car unless I purchased additional coverages — which made the total cost far higher than what I had already paid through Expedia.
To make things worse, they charged a $500 deposit to my credit card. Even though I received an email confirming everything was cleared after returning the car, they still held my deposit for 30 days. That means they get to use our money and earn profit from it, while we pay interest on the charge.
Bottom line: Dishonest practices and poor customer service. I will never rent from NextCar again.
Disappointing and Unprofessional Experience
I had a highly unsatisfactory experience with this rental company during my recent visit to Orlando. After landing at MCO, I waited over an hour for the shuttle to arrive. When I politely asked the driver about the delay, he completely ignored me and offered no explanation or acknowledgment.
Upon arrival at the rental office, I encountered further issues. As a Canadian traveler, I had arranged insurance coverage in advance, but the staff informed me they did not accept Canadian insurance. Despite the booking confirmation vaguely stating that insurance “may be required,” I was told outright that I could not rent a vehicle without purchasing their in-house coverage. When I asked for details about what the insurance covered, no one could provide clear answers. I was simply given pricing without any explanation of the terms or coverage — a concerning lack of transparency.
When I insisted on understanding what I was paying for, my questions were either ignored or dismissed. This lack of professionalism made me extremely uncomfortable, and I ultimately decided to cancel my reservation.
While I was there, I overheard multiple other customers expressing frustration — some regarding the condition of their vehicles, others about unexpected charges related to tolls and the company’s insistence on using their EZ-pass system, which appeared to involve inflated fees if you declined it.
Overall, the experience felt disorganized, misleading, and at times, confrontational. I would strongly advise others to consider more reputable rental companies to avoid similar issues.
Next Car is a Scam - David Lanzerd is a fraud
I received a filthy scar from the vehicle from Next Car in Sea-Tac, and had to deal with David Lanzerd from costumer service who was very unethical. Next Car in general is a scam rip-off car rental company with no care for their customers. If you so happen to run into David Lanzerd, you will get the runaround for months via email until you no longer are able to make a claim for any overcharge or inconvenience. Next Car Rental also goes through third parties, and you are renting from someone totally different. I ended up receiving a car in terrible condition from RentAWreck in Sea-Tac located at an abandoned motel. Next Car is a complete scam.
AINHOA at Orlando Branch SAVED THE DAY
AINHOA AT THE ORLANDO BRANCH - She was the difference between success or me taking this company to the cleaners however possible. I would like the car I ordered - from the company that I ordered it from but I ordered a car through WHEEGO but I ended up at NextCar which seems to be part of STRIDE. We waited at the Orlando airport pickup for a long time - no shuttle bus - eventually got an UBER (which cost me $45). This was a TERRIBLE start to the rental. When we got there the counter staff was excellent - I believe her name was Ainhoa and she deserves to be managing everything with your company. I said I booked it with WHEEGO as I needed a car the size of what I booked, a TOYOTA HIGHLANDER. She told me that the company does not have any highlanders at all - so that is false advertising and VERY bad. However, she allocated me a NISSAN PATHFINDER - which is actually a bigger car. So I was happy with that - but only because of Ainhoa's willingness to resolve issues. Whilst I was in the location, I witnessed her trying to help 2 other families who were clearly not getting what they thought they had paid for!! Overall, I ended up very happy with the car I got for the duration of the hire (with the exception of the $45 uber that should have been avoided by a better airport shuttle service) but it could EASILY have gone very bad, very quickly.
I will never use nextcar ever again in…
I will never use nextcar ever again in my life. We rented a car from them. We had a reservation for 8 o’clock. Our flight came in 15 minutes late, their facility wasn’t even on the property. It took us almost a half hour or more to get a shuttle and go to where they had the cars. We got there about 9 PM and they told us our reservation was canceled. They will not refund the money. What a scam please nobody ever use next car.
We prepaid in January for Aug. No car when we arrived!
We prepaid in January for 15 days in August through Expedia. When we arrived at their airport location they told us Nope no car for you!
They had no interest in making it right or assisting us. Expedia was able to refund us but it was very stressful obtaining a rental that late at night
Worst car rental experience
I rent cars monthly and this was without a doubt the worst experience renting a car I have ever had. This is the one company that is not onsite at the airport with all of the other companies. So I had to uber to get to the office. Once there I had to stand in line for over an hour and a half. Even though I had a reservation and had paid in advance it didn’t matter. Unlike all the other car rental companies NextCar requires you to bring proof of you collision insurance with you and if you don’t have it then they do not offer insurance on SUVs in-house so you can’t rent. This place reminds me of renting a car 30 years ago but with much worse service. Never again! And to give a little more context, I am 50 years old and have never written a bad review on a company before now. I can’t begin to describe my level of frustration right now.
I am extremely disappointed with their holding onto my $500 security deposit
I am extremely disappointed with this company. I rented a car from July 17–31 and was promised a reimbursement that I still have not received. To make matters worse, my case was marked as closed even though the issue has not been resolved.
I have sent multiple emails, including a follow-up, and have received no response. This lack of communication and accountability is completely unacceptable.
I expect my reimbursement to be processed immediately. Until then, I cannot recommend this company to anyone looking for reliable customer service.
STILL NO DEPOSIT RETURN $250
I gave 1 star - Rent a Wreck (NextCar) is garbage........I'm also trying to get my deposit back from them. I do not understand why credit cards companies with all this claims, still doing businesses with NextCar - Rent a Wreck?11
Now, they are making me feel like they are doing me a 'favor' by 'trying' to return my money. What a joke!
Never again renting with this small car rental companies (never again credit card deposits)
Cancun - Not recommended, Get ready for suprise insurance charge when picking up car
Cancun airport location - I booked a small compact car with them for 2 days. Online rate was very low. I had credit card auto rental coverage and was planning on using that. In the fine terms in their website allows the usage of credit card coverage, but when you show up to pick up the car they say coverage from USA or Canada is not valid in Mexico. They force you to buy their SLI coverage, which is often over priced and adjusted by their workers themselves. You can negotiate and bring it lower. I told them that it was only $12/day for SLI on their website, but the worker quoted me $145 initially, then I was able to bring down to $115. He would not match the price posted online and instead told me to call thw company, which was the number of his manager, who was sitting in the back. The car that I got was an employee's car 2008 Nissan March with 204000kms with dirty seats and many other problems(shaky side mirrors, engine and car shakes over 60kph, shaking at idle, hard shifting, no bluetooth, etc). At the end, with insurance and everything I ended up paying about $130 for 2 days.
I would not recommend renting from them or try buying SLI before hand through their website and see what happens.
I am most likey going to rent with easycar or yes rent as I have heard they don't do this type of scam and are upfront about everything
Called for pickup from YZZ for shuttle
Called for pickup from YZZ for shuttle. They would not answer phone. Got hung up on multiple times when they finally answered and was eventualy told there was no cars left so shuttle was not coming. Had to Uber to destination since we were stranded at airport. Had to come back to airport the next day and book through a reputable company. Pathetic Customer service.
They are frauds
They are frauds. They had unlimited miles and then said when we got there it’s only 50 miles per day and forced to use they surpass and a bunch of hidden fees we requested to cancel they said okay but instead charged us anyways and said they have a strict cancelation policy. They are a fraudulent company and they are stealing from the community.
This company is a complete scam
This company is a complete scam. I confirmed in writing before booking that the total cost would be $900 with no hidden fees. When I arrived, they hit me with a surprise $2,500 hold unless I bought their “platinum” insurance for $800, plus another $800 hold. In total, they tried to squeeze $1,600 out of me with fees that were never disclosed anywhere online.
To make matters worse, after returning the car in perfect condition, they refused to release my deposit. First, I was told it would take 10 days. Then suddenly it became 15 days. None of this was in the contract. This is fraud, plain and simple.
The staff were also unprofessional and disrespectful. I was called “girlll” in a patronizing way while being brushed off. This kind of conduct is disgusting.
Avoid this company at all costs. They trap you once you arrive and take advantage of the fact that you have nowhere else to go. I’ll be filing complaints and disputing the charges with my bank.
This is one of my worst experience…
This is one of my worst experience dealing with picking up rent a car. I booked with Price line with a full insurance protection "rental cover.com" booked from Priceline website. At the counter I was asked to buy Nextcar insurance as they do not accept "rental cover.com" I was asked to buy an insurance for $ 66 per day ( which came to more than the total I paid for rental and insurance that too on a debit card. If I have to use credit card I need to show a bill or other means of identification. This caused a lot of inconvenience, stress and 2 hours of my time to and fro to pick up the car.
SCAM!
SCAM!
This is the worst rental agency I've ever been to in my life. Do yourself a favor and stick to the known agencies, because this place is a dump. The shuttle took us to a place that looked like scrap metal site, the office was hopelessly overcrowded (a lot of people had to wait outside in 95 degree Miami Heat until their turn) and the three employees took 30 minutes with each customer. Look at the guy in the picture at the counter, he was ready to have a meltdown after 30 minutes. As we stood in line for 2 hours, we kept wondering why everybody was mad and looked frustrated, but soon found out. When we got to the counter 1. they didn't accept Amex. 2. they tried to sell us a SunPass for the tolls, which can be avoided but they charge 15 bucks a day and lied that you NEED the pass and last but not least 3. they didn't accept my car insurance saying they only work with a selected group. So they tried to sell me their own for 60 dollars a day.
I booked through Expedia and I strongly urge everybody to stay away from them. I'm trying to get a refund, because I wasn't able to cancel, since waiting in line for 2 hours made the rental binding on me. Now they're refusing to give the refund.
Oh the sign says you need to return the car washed and they make you fill out a slip to draw all the damages the car had before they give you the keys. I took the shuttle back to MIA and got a car at the terminal. Do yourself a favor and avoid them.
The shuttle driver was really nice though!
1 star because of the shuttle driver. I couldnt give zero.
UPDATE: they refused to refund, although Expedia tried to reason with them.
I’m only giving 1 star because I can’t…
I’m only giving 1 star because I can’t give 0 stars. Truly terrible customer service, especially from the employee named Hernan. Not sure how they were able to find someone that terrible to interact with customers.
Watch out for one specific trick of theirs: rather than giving you the car with a full tank of gas, they only deliver it partially full (half full, in my case). It is then almost impossible to get the gas exactly where they delivered it, because fuel gauges on these cars are not that precise. So you can either overfill it, or return it slightly under filled (since it’s basically impossible to get to exactly the same level at which they delivered in, partially filled). If you do the latter, when you return the car they then charge you $46 for being even a hair below where they think the fuel gauge should be. If you’re in a hurry, which isn’t uncommon at an airport, you then have no choice but to pay the $46, which is what they are probably planning on happening. Easy money for them.
The whole mess could be avoided by simply filling the tank before delivering the car, but then they wouldn’t be able to nail customers for the extra $46. It’s a scam.
I never got to use NextCar for a service I paid
I never got to use NextCar even though I paid for a service through Priceline. They never picked the phone nor did they send a shuttle to pick me up as promised in the service. They never returned the money to me and they thanked me for my business. Never, ever will I use NextCar or Priceline, who stated this was not their issue to resolve.
Car Rental Scammers
Do not try to save a few dollars by renting from a shady company. You will regret it. This was NextCar, San Jose, Costa Rica.
When you arrive at their office in the middle of nowhere, they will reject the already paid-in-full reservation you had from a travel agent. They will ask you to make a new reservation with them or leave.
We ended up paying for a new reservation. Sensing their bad practice and to get peace of mind, we decided to pay for a fully insured car, using their own insurance.
A week after returning the car, we found unauthorized $2,034 on our credit card with no explanation, nor reply to our calls. This was a fully insured car!
Do not fall for those scammers.
Follow up from last review July 2025
I left a review sometime last month with the situation regarding my deposit not being refunded. Its been little over a month and counting, still no refund. At this point, im going to Consumer Affairs, and any other agency or way i can go to get this resolved. This is ridiculous.
