Considering 153 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers reported being charged significantly more than the advertised or prepaid rates, often due to mandatory additional insurance, toll passes, or unexpected fees. Reviewers frequently encountered issues with service, including long waits, virtual assistance, and staff pressuring them into extra purchases. The actual pick-up locations were often off-airport, requiring inconvenient shuttles or leading to customers being stranded. However, some reviewers were satisfied with specific aspects of their experience. They highlighted great communication and helpfulness from certain staff members, as well as prompt and free shuttle services in some instances.

Don’t rent a car from this company

Don’t rent a car from this company. Total scam. When you go pick up your car, they will force you to pay for more insurance if you don’t have full coverage insurance or if you use a credit card with car insurance, they say it’s not sufficient. They will also make you pay for tolls activation and fees and if you decline, you will not be able to use tolls because they will charge you automatically. Customer service was horrible, I spent 2 hours talking to people and was sent to a booth to speak to someone on a screen to sign the paperwork. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Deceptive Pricing, Unsafe Vehicle, No Gas, and Zero Accountability

Deceptive Pricing, Unsafe Vehicle, No Gas, and Zero Accountability
I rarely write reviews, but after this experience, I feel obligated to warn every traveler planning to rent a car in Cancun. This is hands down the worst car rental experience of my life.
The Bait and Switch Pricing
I found this company through Priceline while booking my trip. The price shown was $84.98, clear, no warnings about additional fees at pickup. When I arrived at the rental counter in Cancun, I was hit with an additional $348.58 on top of what I had already paid, plus a security deposit of approximately $580 for a 4-day rental from April 16th to April 20th, 2026. That is nearly $930 total for a rental I thought cost $84.98, almost 11 times what was advertised. Nothing in my booking confirmation or on the Priceline listing mentioned any of this.
I pushed back, showed my confirmation, and questioned every charge. The staff was dismissive and unapologetic. After a long, exhausting argument at the counter, and tired from traveling with the resort over an hour away, I made the painful decision to just pay and deal with it later. No customer should ever be put in that position.
The Car Was Unsafe and Barely Had Any Gas
If the pricing deception was not bad enough, what happened next made everything worse. When I got into the car, I noticed the gas tank was almost empty. I had just been forced to pay nearly $930, and they could not even be bothered to fill the tank. Instead of heading straight to my resort after a long day of travel, I had to spend my first night in Cancun driving around looking for a gas station in an unfamiliar city.
And that was just the beginning. Once I got gas and started driving, I immediately noticed serious problems with the vehicle. The check engine light came on within minutes of leaving the lot. The car had dangerous stabilization issues — the steering felt unstable, and the ride was so rough I genuinely did not feel safe on the highway. This was not a minor inconvenience. This was a safety issue. They handed me a vehicle that should have been in a mechanic's shop, not on a rental lot.
They Were Unreachable and Then Refused a Refund
While driving that night, feeling unsafe and frustrated, I tried calling them to report the issues and arrange to return the vehicle. They told me they were already closed. A rental company that hands you a dangerous car and then becomes completely unreachable the moment you drive off the lot. I had no choice but to continue driving an unsafe vehicle with no support whatsoever.
First thing the next morning, I drove straight back to their location. I calmly explained that the vehicle was not roadworthy, did not meet basic advertised standards, and requested a refund. Their response was a flat refusal. No apology, no replacement vehicle offered, no acknowledgment that any of this was a problem. I had no choice but to leave the car with them and Uber myself back to my resort — paying even more money out of pocket.
Customer Service Made It Worse
When I contacted customer service looking for a resolution, I was told to wait until the charges were posted to my account before filing a formal complaint. So on top of everything else, the deceptive pricing, the empty gas tank, the unsafe vehicle, and the refused refund, I was also being made to wait just to begin the process of getting help. That is not customer service. That is a system designed to wear customers down.
Final Thoughts
This company advertises one price and charges another. They send customers off in vehicles that are unsafe and empty of gas. They become unreachable at night when you need help. They refuse refunds when their vehicles fail basic standards. And they make it difficult to even file a complaint.
If you are visiting Cancun, please book with someone who respects what they advertise and treats customers with basic dignity. I will be pursuing this through Priceline, my credit card company, and every consumer protection channel available to me. No traveler deserves this. 🚗❌

This company is a scam!! Do not use.
They put a scratch in the car we rented and told us we did it and we've lost over £800 in 'repairs' that conveniently cost the exact deposit amount on our credit card. Do not use this awful company.

Nextcar at Paris CDG airport

Nextcar at Paris CDG airport. Great communication with Adam and Jane. Make sure letting them know the time you are arriving after customs time. WhatsApp and SMS work great with them. Note: to pickup instructions are LE DOME 1, Terminal 3, 5th floor. Do NOT expect Nextcar to be at a “rental car” area like in other airports. Adam or Jame will bring the tablet to check you in and then take you to the car. To return the car, do the same, communicate with them prior to your arrival. They will send pictures showing exactly where and how to leave the car. I do recommend. AScarp from/to Apr/14-17/2026

I stupidly rented from this company…

I stupidly rented from this company thinking I was saving beaucoup bucks. HA! I was in Tampa to meet my newborn grandbaby. I’ve been a frequent flier (and car renter) most of my adult life. Now, as a 73-year-old, I was blatantly taken advantage of.

When I declined liability coverage (because my own insurance covered it) they told me I had to provide them with my policy documents. Like who travels with those. That’s the point I should’ve walked away and gone to Avis. But I was up at 3 am for my flight and felt exhausted.

Bottom line: I ended up paying more than $700 for 7 days. Still haven’t received their so-called $150 deposit refund. Really, really burned up. Avoid these guys like the plague.

I booked a cart rental with Nextcar…

I booked a cart rental with Nextcar (Orlando, FL) through Travelocity which advertised a very competitive price and when I arrived to pick up my rental car the company tried to more than "double" my rental charges siting an "administrative fee" I was unhappy with this and the "nasty" employee told me that he would be more than happy to cancel my reservation - which he did. Travelocity would not return my initial payment for the rental that I never picked up siting that the customer failed to respond to the complaint.

Avoid NextCar. Be afraid.

I rarely write reviews. Perhaps it's because I've never been so frustrated and, at the same time, dumbfounded, by the lack of professionalism and business ethics NextCar displayed when I tried to get my rental. Key on the word "tried" because ultimately I never did get that rental. This company insisted I provided a declaration of insurance. I have never been asked for this by a car rental company before but I figured ok, they're being careful. We are lucky enough to be living in an age where we can access these things from our phones. So that's what I did. I provided my current term insurance declaration but that wasn't good enough. I then provided my last term declaration but still, no, not good enough. I was told something about a "missing month"? At that point (and 2 hours later mind you) was blind with frustration. I've had full liability and collision coverage with state farm for nearly 8 years! Now I realized what was happening. They were trying to get me to cave in and purchase they're in-house insurance. This would cost be over $300 for the 5 day rental. On top of that they said I couldn't use my own transponder for tolls. That's another scam. Needless to say I refused to get railroaded and went to another car rental booth in the airport. Got my car and was out the door in 20 minutes. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE THEY SUCK MORE THAN A HOOVER VACUUM!

What happened to this company??

We used to love Nextcar, but this year was awful. They now place a $2,000 hold on your credit card, unless you pay $17 a day to reduce that to $500. They require an insurance renewal letter, despite the fact that an insurance card offers the same information. They claim that they no longer offer Toyotas because they are the most frequently stolen vehicle in Florida. (They aren't even in the top ten.) Our Altima didn't have Android Auto, and we didn't even have a manual in the glovebox. If you use a toll road, they used to charge you for the tolls after the fact. Nextcar now charges $25 for each toll "violation". AND, when we arrived at TPA, we waited 30 minutes for an agent to assist us. We saw several customers either walking away, or shaking their heads. IDK what happened to this company, but it's not good, and we'll never use them again.

The worst car rental experience I've…

The worst car rental experience I've ever had! The Huston location is a front for their scams...they force you to purchase their insurance, will not accept American Express or your auto insurance rental car coverage! It is impossible to speak to a human. I'm still waiting for my security deposit to be returned after holding it for well over 30 business days. If you're open for headaches rent from them otherwise avoid them at all cost!

SCAM COMPANY

This company is a scam. They will give away your vehicle if you are one hour late and they purposely make you late /dont answer phones so that they can con you into buying an upgrade. The manager Joel was the worst people leader i have ever encountered in my life. He cancelled our reservation for complaining about this and left my 2 and 4 year old stranded, ruining our vacation. Disgusting human being and company.

Avoid “Cheap” Rentals — Hidden Fees and Stressful Experience

This rental company appears to rely on hidden fees and confusing policies.

I booked a car through Expedia with Nextcar in Miami, attracted by a low rate and added full insurance protection through Expedia. Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be a nightmare.

The rental office was extremely unprofessional — more like a converted room in a house than a proper rental location.

Check-in was handled via a screen with an outsourced agent, which took 30 minutes just to explain unexpected insurance fees. Despite having purchased full coverage through Expedia, they claimed I didn’t have enough coverage and tried to charge me an additional $65/day.

They placed a $2,500 hold on my credit card for a security deposit, which is excessive and extremely stressful, especially when traveling with family.

When I questioned charges, my reservation was canceled without my confirmation, leaving me stranded.

It was clear that many other customers were going through the same issues.

Bottom line: I strongly recommend sticking with reputable car rental companies. With them, you pay upfront and don’t face the stress and surprise charges that Nextcar seems to thrive on.

NextCar rental company is a scam and…

NextCar rental company is a scam and they give the worst possible service. Do not use it. First of all, it took over an hour to get a shuttle to go to their car pickup location, which was not close to the airport like the other regular car rental companies. Once you get there, you don't deal with a live person but with a person on a screen (or perhaps an AI image), but the connection disappeared several times and it took over 2 hours to get through to them, and at the end of the 2 hours, they said that the reservation has been canceled because it was 2 hours late. But we were 2 hour late because of their abysmal service. Other people in line with us had the same experience. We will reporr them to the Better Business Bureau. NEXTCAR IS A SCAM DO NOT USE THEM, THEY SHOULD BE OUT OF BUSINESS. There is a reason why their price was low, because they are fraudsters.

Horrible experience- o starts

I would give this company zero stars ,
First off we waited for almost 2 hours while only one person was helping customers at the counter , the vehicle we received was dirty and smelled horrible. The vehicle we received was damaged and had a broken tail light and a slow leak in the front tire. The vehicle had roaches inside and I had to use a fog to kill them. It was the worse experience I ever had renting a vehicle.

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY.

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY.

I am begging anyone reading this: stay far away.

We should have checked the reviews first, but unfortunately this company was booked through Expedia. Shame on Expedia for even allowing this rental company on their platform, because our experience was exactly like so many of the other negative reviews.

We paid in full online and also purchased coverage ahead of time. When we arrived, we were still told we had to buy their insurance anyway. Then, when it came time to sign the contract, they would not let us properly review it first and refused to give us a written copy until after it was already signed.

That alone was a massive red flag.

It got worse when we returned the vehicle. We brought it back a day early because of an early morning flight, and they told us to just leave the keys in the car and go. No inspection, no receipt, no confirmation, nothing. A few days later, they sent us an “updated contract” claiming we had rented the vehicle for 6 days instead of 4 and charged our credit card for extra days without authorization. Somehow Monday to Thursday became 6 days. On top of that, our signature appeared on the updated contract.

Completely unacceptable.

Trying to contact them afterward was a waste of time because they do not answer the phone. Once they have your card information, they seem to do whatever they want.

Make sure you get written proof when returning the vehicle, because if you do not, you may end up dealing with extra charges too.

In our experience, this place operates in a deeply dishonest and predatory way. It feels like a scam targeting travelers who are out of state and need transportation. This business should not be operating this way, and Expedia should seriously reconsider allowing them on its platform.

This company will fraud your credit card and your contract!!!! Beware!!!!

Unbelievably Dishonest Car Rental Company in Orlando, Florida

I don’t even know where to begin with how unbelievably dishonest and frustrating this rental experience was. What started as a straightforward reservation at a reasonable rate turned into a blatant cash grab that more than doubled the agreed price by the time I returned the car.
First, the total charge bore absolutely no resemblance to the original booking. Hidden fees, unexplained surcharges, and conveniently “overlooked” terms somehow inflated the cost to more than twice what I had agreed to. There was no transparency, no clear breakdown—just a final bill that felt like it was designed to see how much they could get away with.
Then there’s the mileage issue. My reservation explicitly included free mileage, yet I was still charged as if I had exceeded some limit that was never disclosed at pickup. When I questioned it, I got vague, contradictory answers that made it clear either the staff didn’t understand their own policies or were hoping I wouldn’t push back.
The most outrageous part, though, was the insurance scam. I clearly presented valid coverage through my American Express card as well as my personal auto insurance policy—both of which are widely accepted and fully sufficient in the United States. Despite this, they still added an insurance charge without proper justification. It felt less like a misunderstanding and more like a deliberate attempt to pad the bill.
Customer service was equally disappointing—dismissive, unhelpful, and unwilling to take accountability. Instead of resolving the issues, they doubled down and treated legitimate concerns like an inconvenience.
This experience was not just poor—it was predatory. I would strongly advise anyone considering this company to read every line of their agreement, take photos of everything, and be prepared to dispute charges. Better yet, save yourself the headache and rent from a company that actually respects its customers and honors its own terms.

Reserved a car for 5pm on March 28th…

Reserved a car for 5pm on March 28th 2026. Due to lack of signage and appropriate transportation to the off site facility coupled with the transport stopping at a stop prior to our rental facility, we made it just before the ( unbeknownst to us) 1 hour time limit. Really? An off site facility requiring a 1 hour check in to offset a penalty?
I walked into the facility waiting in line for a check in by a sign that says nextcar. After a few minutes the guy tells me that the phone booth looking kiosk is where I need to be. Mind you, this is all taking away from my precious 1 hour grace period!
I get onto a video call with poor sound quality and the woman on the other end asks for my booking number. It is provided and I am told that I am too late. My car is no longer available. I tell her to just refund my deposit. She says that she can't do that in her end.
I contact Nextcar and am directed to a WhatsApp chat. I am told that I will be contacted by someone who will resolve my issue. No phone call w4 hours later. I have made subsequent attempts with the same WhatsApp contact only to be ignored after they asked one question regarding the time I was at their phone booth kiosk.
If you want to add stress to a vacation visit just rent a car from Nextcar. Our only alternative ended up being several hundred more for a same day rental.
