Moviechat is one of the worst sites ever
Moviechat just keeps getting worse. The moderator is terrible and there are no worthwhile discussions. It's a terrible site.
While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more

Some leftist complained that MovieChat is all MAGA. That's absurd. There is at least as much leftist propaganda and whining as there are conservative comments. But the fact that both are allowed pisses off leftists, who can only abide their own point of view being aired. The trouble with MovieChat is that there's far too much ideological bickering and flaming, instead of talk about movies. There are a lot of frequent commenters who seem to have nothing better to do with their lives than spend hour upon hour insulting each other back-and-forth like children.
Someone elses review summarised this in 4 words. "American politics ruins everything"
So there's only one reason to be on this site over IMDB - the forums. And the forums depend on who uses them. So the quality and enjoyability of this site depends on the other forum users. Specifically, (as usual) their political affiliation. So that's what this review is about.
Run by MAGA's, infested by MAGA's. Not a pleasant place to be.
Evidence suggests the moderators are MAGA's, which make parts of the site make sense. I'd say avoid any forums on MC where there are deluded MAGA rants. But it's all and any of them. It's like smelling an open toilet. It gets everywhere.
general procedure:
MAGA squeals about a comment, that comment gets removed
Someone raises issue with a MAGA comment, that someone gets told they need to accept opinions, and to block the MAGA user
Isn't it amazing how vaguely the TC's can be interpreted? MAGA's have this ability to tell you what other people are thinking
"their comment wasn't intended to offend, yours was"
MAGA thinking.
As we have found out, when the admin use the term free speech, we know they mean 'speech they agree with'. Trying to get any sense out of an admin MAGA is like trying to get a turing test result from a watermelon. The admin are content with the 20 extremely loud mouthed MAGA's on the site, and are unaware of the people who make the wise choice not to go anywhere near the site because of them. (would you want to smell a toilet?)
I think it's best just to let them scream amongst themselves. It's what they do well.
Other than that it's very basic. no signature option, no profile information, no thread view count. maybe there are far fewer users than the site owners want people to see. maybe that's what they want. and the ignore feature isn't 2-way. so if you ignore someone, they can still see you. which. isn't an ignore feature.
It's the only decent site for discussing movies, TV shows and just about anything else: books, music, games, comics, actors, trivia, etc., as well as a separate board for political discussions. I appreciate the clutter-free simplicity of the site, too. They have (mostly) great members there, too.
Another great thing about this site is that most of the IMDb message boards and comments were imported before they shut it down.
Best movie website ever. There is a movie club on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Come join the fun!
MOVIECHAT IS A WONDERFUL SITE...GREAT PEOPLE,CONVERSATONS,GAMES,POLLS,MOVIE WATCH ALONGS...AN ENDLESS WELL OF ENTERTAINMENT.
This is the perfect replacement for IMDb. An amazing site with individual pages for every film, tv series, actor, musician and film industry person you can imagine.
The Internet Movie Database shut down it's forums a few years ago and I needed a place to ask questions about my favorite movies. Last year I found Moviechat. I signed up and never got confirmation to start typing my questions.
