Our experience with Momenta Finance / Merchant Money has been nothing short of a nightmare. In April last year took a loan of with terms that allowed for early closure, accruing interest only up to the closure date. Despite this, our attempts to repay early were consistently denied, and we were met with demands for exorbitant amounts far exceeding our expectations. By the time I had paid nine installments, they were effectively asking me to repay a sum almost twice the loan amount within one year, resulting in an absurd interest rate of approximately 71%.
During this period, my business bank account faced repeated blockages due to international transactions, which I promptly informed Merchant Money about. Nonetheless, their legal team communicated a demand almost twice the loan amount, including uncapitalised future interest and unfair legal expenses. When I attempted to close the loan early in February, the quoted settlement was significantly higher than the expected balance according to their repayment chart. My queries about this discrepancy were ignored.
Furthermore, despite multiple attempts to reset the direct debit to a different bank account, these requests were consistently declined. To my shock, I discovered a County Court Judgment (CCJ) against me via Experian, with no prior correspondence or warnings. Adding to the distress, it turned out that the individual who had issued the payment demand was not associated with the stated firm, raising serious concerns about the legitimacy of their actions.
This entire deal has caused immense professional and personal distress. Merchant Money's refusal to cooperate, their misleading communication, and the issuance of a CCJ without prior notice have been profoundly unfair
