I specifically increased my MetLife Pet policy limit to $10,000 at renewal after my French Bulldog’s first expensive spine surgery. I did this so a recurrence would be covered under the higher limit. No one explained to me at the time of the increase that the new limit would not apply to a condition that had already started under the previous policy.
When he needed the same surgery again, MetLife only paid $5,000, citing their Continuous Coverage rule. I paid significantly higher premiums (roughly double) for coverage that did not actually protect me for this known issue. If I had been told this limitation upfront, I never would have increased the limit or paid the higher premium.
After more than $13,000 in surgery costs plus end-of-life expenses, I was left with a massive out-of-pocket bill. When I tried to appeal the partial payment, I was told I couldn’t appeal because the claim was “approved” for $5,000. I feel completely misled and scammed by how this was handled. They are scammers, I do not recommend this company.
