Just no

After being transferred to multiple departments, being told conflicting information about my policy being in existence and not being in existence, hung up upon because I asked to speak to a manager, just save yourself some time and get a policy with someone else so you never have to call their customer service. It feels deliberately painful to discourage contact. At no point do you get the impression that they want to help you.

Its all a Scam

I was recently diagnosed with bladder cancer and have already gone through surgery. I’m currently receiving chemotherapy once a week. When I filed a claim, it was denied because the cancer “isn’t in the muscle of the bladder,” which they say means I don’t qualify for benefits.

They’re happy to take your money, but when you’re actually diagnosed with cancer, they decide it’s not “serious enough” to help. Absolutely unbelievable and incredibly disappointing. I would not recommend this insurance to anyone.

I have the MetLife VADIP for veterans

I have the MetLife VADIP for veterans. This program is the worst. I need to have a Root Canal Evaluation by my DDS during my first cleaning. I used the MetLife website to find an Endodontist. I spoke to several of the Endodontists, and none of them has a specialist to provide the service. The company that my DDS suggested isn't in the network. So they will only cover 35% of the cost compared to 50% for an in-network provider. So I called MetLife to see if they would make an exception and cover 50% of the cost since there are no MetLife Endodontists within 100 miles, and they wouldn't. Today I got a bill from my DDS for the cleaning, and out of the total cost of $196.27, MetLife only covers $107.00. So I will now have to cover the remainder. MetLife's monthly cost is $28.17. This Veterans Program is a SCAM.

Went out of work for twelve weeks for knee surgery. The doctor wrote that I would be off for twelve weeks. They wanted me to be off for an extra four due to some issues with healing but Met Life quit paying on the claim at ten weeks and started the paperwork game. As I knew I couldn't go six more weeks without a paycheck I went back to work at 12 weeks. They profited over 4 billion last year and this is why. Starve the person out so you don't have to pay. This company is trash.

MetLife Dental Insurance has Terrible Customer Service

We have been forced to have MetLife dental for nearly 30 years due to workplace benefits. Their website is awful, hard to navigate (especially if you have other MetLife products), and their customer service is even worse. Nothing is done digitally. We were on a COBRA dental plan with them for 18 months after my spouse retired and we had to call numerous times to get them to reinstate a plan that we were paying for directly (again, no choice due to former workplace selections). It took over a month to get the paperwork to begin using the insurance and dental appointments were cancelled since we didn't have an official insurance card for use. Then, when we asked them to reimburse us for the month where we didn't have a plan, they cancelled our dental insurance. After getting it reinstated, they charged us a fee above the normal monthly amount since we'd "dropped the policy." It's so infuriating how incompetent they are from a customer service standpoint. The coverage for what you pay is their only redeeming quality. Additionally, our dentist told us we get 3 cleanings a year, so my husband signed up for one, but then the insurance didn't cover the third cleaning because it fell within the "wrong calendar year." This was at the same time we were trying to get the insurance reinstated, so they looked at it as a new plan. Getting reimbursement from them is a joke and NOT worth the effort.

Dental department is absolutely awful

Dental department is absolutely awful. They will fully deny all claims no matter the urgency. They also outsourced their customer service, so be prepared to speak to somebody with limited English. Terrible all-around. Avoid it all costs.

I have had a MetLife Life Insurance…

I have had a MetLife Life Insurance policy for over 30 years. It used to be a reliable, straightforward company with local agents and people you could speak with. Now, other than the initial IVR (Interactive Voice Recording) that you get when you call Customer Service, you get someone that does not speak English as a primary language and that is at times hard to understand. Also, clearly they have script and no real power to help with problems. My policy premiums are going up astronomically over what they were even a year or two ago. When I call, essentially the only answer that I get is "that's the way it is". I would definitely move from MetLife if I didn't have so much invested in my policy already. I would definitely NOT RECOMMEND MetLife if you're planning on buying life insurance.
Additionally, when you call and it says "stay on the line when you're done, to fill out a satisfaction survey", it doesn't go the survey so you don't get to give feedback.

Scam

"Basic" dental coverage is a SCAM. I was charged $1100 out of pocket after a single-day dental procedure (which was medically necessary, NOT cosmetic), no thanks to these people and their incredible "coverage". Metlife, your business model is a shameless scam and you should not be allowed to operate. I would have been better off with no dental insurance at all. 0/10

Constantly told my check is in the mail for 4 months now, called and spoke to numerous
people who claim they are management and still my check has not made it to me yet.
Noone is looking at the notes on my account to send the check to the correct person
and address. This is insanity to constantly have to call every week and being told they
fixed the issue, and my check is mailed out to find absolutely nothing in the mail or at
the dentist office. MetLife is horrible. I would not recommend. We will be dropping our
health insurance as of next year due to the issues weve had with this company. Horrible
customer service and communication. We still need this issue resolved asap!

Optional Accident - Very simply claims process and they paid what the policy said

My daughter was getting pushed on a swing by an overly enthusiastic friend. It resulted in her face planting off the swing and breaking her nose and some bones in her face. :(

We took her to urgent care and then the emergency room after they were concerned about a head injury/concussion.

I received the medical documents from the hospital on July 1st (that night) and filed a claim the following day. All I had to do to submit the claim was upload the medical documents from Texas Children's Hospital. I did have to call them the next day, as the website stated "Needs more documentation" or similar wording; however, they just needed me to provide a standard signed form stating that I was being truthful in my claim, which is understandable.

They paid the claim within 7 days of my submission for $ 1,350 (we had the low-accident plan). Direct deposit into my bank account (before the hospital actually sent us the request for payment). I'm really grateful for such a straightforward claim. The premium we were paying was only around $14 a month to cover the entire family, so it was, and continues to be, a great value for money plan. Just remember this isn't health insurance. It's an additional plan that helps pay out-of-pocket expenses from my normal health insurance plan. Our Health insurance cut a very high bill from Texas Children's Hospital down to $2,100. The $ 1,350 from this insurance really assisted in reducing the out-of-pocket expenses. The payment from this accident product isn't dependent on your other normal insurance plan, as I understand it.
My claim was in Houston, Texas

MATT LIFE NO GLOSS

I submitted my hospital stay.claim, on 24th june thinking it would be resolved in a week but I did not expect it being queued for 10 days, today the 22nd of July it's still not settled. Customer service are trained not to be specific with claims date.its 25th today and as per metlife it takes 3 to 5 days for the amount to reflect. In this age of technology, the delay tactics are so obvious maybe I should do another insurance for quick services.

By far the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. Their claim form is vague and misleading, they do not respond to you and they do not pay medical invoices they are insured to do. WARNING. They use a NON_APPROVED medical partner called Health Hero, which gives false advice. AVOID!

SCAM…

I Both my parents recently passed away and I had to call Metropolitan Life regarding their life insurance policies. The man I talked to right away tried selling me a life insurance policy, he requested my social security number and my bank account information. I told him REPEATEDLY that I was NOT interested in getting life insurance for myself, just that I wanted to verify if my parents policies were still active. The jerk hungup when I told him I was NOT giving him any of my personal information.

MetLife could have warned me of the pitfall.

My interaction with MetLife after my former employer, FedEx, sold its pension obligation to this insurance company has been seldom. My payments continued apace. Earlier this year I wanted to increase my federal and state tax withholding. The state worked well because I had to speak with a MetLife rep. The federal went poorly. The fault may have been the IRS form, W-4P, but I think MetLife could have given me a "heads up" and explained that Line 4(c), Extra withholding, really means the amount I wanted withheld, NOT AN ADDITIONAL AMOUNT.

My Mom passed away - MetLife responded with delays in payment

My Mom passed away, and I started the life insurance claim process with MetLife by calling and then referencing an online form to complete, since my claim was less than $100k. I did this on May 1, 2025, and they communicated this was a 7-10 day process, and I would receive our benefit. I then got a letter with additional instructions for the online submission on May 11, 2025, which I completed and submitted that day. I then got another letter with the identical form to complete again, which I did on paper this time and mailed on May 27, 2025. I finally received the check on June 14, 2025, about 1.5 months (NOT 7-10 days) after I first reached out to open the claim. It seemed suspicious that I had to submit the same information multiple times, and the phone reps were no help. All I can reasonably conclude is that delay was the apparent tactic.
