Read this very carefully if you are a foreigner! If you are a foreigner like me who is unwilling to commit to a two-year contract, make sure you stay away from this company. No matter how many times I told them that I would be in Portugal for a short period of time, they managed to insert into one of the forms I signed (of course, in Portuguese, which I don't understand) a clause binding me to a two-year contract. On the day of my departure, when I returned the equipment, they refused to accept it, asking me to provide utility bills or an employment contract from my home country (which is hard to get when you are away). Then they gave me an address to send these documents, and once they are approved, you still have to pay a penalty, which is the total amount you would owe if you stayed for the full two years. And you know what the joke is? They changed my contract to a binding contract after I requested two SIM cards—and it turned out my home isn’t even covered by MEO antennas! So, my best advice is to stay away from this company, and make sure that everything you sign clearly states ‘NON-BINDING AGREEMENT.’"

Não importa quantas vezes eu tenha dito a eles que ficaria em Portugal por um curto período de tempo, eles conseguiram inserir em um dos formulários que assinei (claro, em português, que eu não entendo) uma cláusula me vinculando a um contrato de dois anos. No dia da minha partida, quando devolvi o equipamento, eles se recusaram a aceitá-lo, pedindo que eu fornecesse contas de serviços públicos ou um contrato de trabalho do meu país de origem (o que é difícil de obter quando você está longe). Dear MEO
I have been a customer of yours for over seven years,
Home Internet and mobile phone
I am out of my contract period
I have relocated to the UK so I no longer require your service
I went into my local store in July and asked them to terminate my service, they said it was not possible in the store only by telephone
They promised me I would receive a telephone call, but I did not
I have telephoned several times now from the UK at considerable expense and spent many hours waiting on hold occasionally just to be cut off with no warning and occasionally getting through to a nice English speaking person each time tell me it is not possible on the telephone and I must write to an address in Porto
I was also told it is not possible by email
Each time I have any form of contact, they try to sell me more services even after I tell them I do not live in Portugal anymore
I’ve written to the address in Porto three times now and also to another address in Lisbon which I managed to find on the Internet, I have received no reply
I’ve tried to navigate my way through the client area and do it that way however I do not speak Portuguese and I am unable to navigate my way through the system
If anybody from meo reads this forum please please please please help

Please, please, please, please actually listen to what I am saying

Please, please, please, please terminate my service as soon as possible

Please, please please please please give me proper instructions about what to do with the equipment which at the moment an innocent third-party is kindly storing for me in Portugal and is willing to transport it to wherever it needs to go when the time arrives

Most importantly, please please please please please please please please please stop taking the money from my account every month and promise me you will stop trying to extort money from me against my wishes

Please provide proper contact details (preferably email because as you may have already noticed I am in a different country)

Just adding an update as of today, the 25th of November, I have since travelled to Portugal to the Meo store and was told everything was now cancelled and that they would be in touch with me to confirm, I received no such confirmation since returning to the UK and today have received yet another invoice and notification of a direct debit leaving my bank
Still no proper contact details and still no acknowledgement of any of my messages to Facebook messenger as you suggested I could use

LIARS: Meo engineers use a fake speed test app on their phone..

We moved and were forced to restart a new more expensive contract. The engineer arrived to install 1GB/s internet. I ran two speed-tests that showed a speed of about 500MB/s.

The "engineer" showed me a speed-test app on his phone that showed 1Gb/s and suggested the wifi connection between my laptop and the router was the bottleneck. After he had gone I ran more tests and saw that my laptop was connected at 830Mb/s but the speed tests were still showing 500Mb/s.

When the fake engineer arrives at your home try running a speed test at the exact same time he runs his - I expect it will show 1GB/s while yours shows 500Mb/s - if it was really a 1GB/s they should both show 500Mb/s.

I will never use them again and have so far convinced two expats not to use them in just the few days since we had their lying engineer visit.

My background: I used to write network protocol software so I know what I'm talking about.

The absolute worst company

The absolute worst company, we've never experienced worse customer service and company policy - considering Meo is a big company!! We moved to a new condominium and they came calling on every door every day until we finally made a contract with them, while they lied to us and said that they were the only company able to provide service for this building. Three months later and we still don't have any internet. We now have to leave Portugal for good and want to cancel this horrible service, which seemed nearly impossible as they wanted to charge us €300 as penalty - although they never provided the service as promised!! After long hours on the phone and in-store, we finally cancelled the service, only to find out a week later that there was an error in the system and a penalty charge would be made. We had to visit the store again, spending hours to get it fixed, only to talk with a lady in-store and 3 different people on the phone before a solution could be provided. Meanwhile Meo keeps calling us both to schedule the internet service in our apartment (which we obviously don't need), and as just of today I've received 19!!!!! missed calls from them within 2 hours, while I'm obviously too busy to pick up. At this point it's harassment. How can a company this big be allowed to have such horrible policies?? It's not just customer service, it's everything that's wrong?!

MEO is the worst internet company in…

MEO is the worst internet company in the World. They will charge you for help calls when their service is the issue and not working, they will block you from every site available so you can't get into your accounts overseas only to use they're extra paid programming services. Run from this company ASAP!!!

attempted to close account

attempted to close account. Found long waits in shop, staff unhelpful dont seem to be very competent everything took a very long time with no communication or apology. Closed account and now being charged for landline this is blatantly wrong but I am told again by borderline rude staff (and I have been extremely patient and courteous) that I now need to give them my IBAN so they can refund me although they are happily taking from my bank account anyway and would know this information. I see this as theft. Also incompetent process have been to the shop 4 times plus extra trip to another one to return the equipment. Have tried to call customer service but no luck Its not that difficult to set up a streamlined system that is effective and quick as well as train staff to be polite and efficient. I will never use this company again nor recommend them. I also realise that they increased the package cost over the 2 years without any notification and the service actually got worse. s far as speaking English goes I realise its a foreign country but English is almost universal now and I will one day speak good portugese.

SCAM

SCAM. How have this company not been sued yet. Absolutely awful. Our WiFi has never properly worked in our house despite having a a satellite dish also on our roof. Been in the shop countless times with no resolution other than a 250 cancellation fee. Always passed onto another phone number that then cuts off or never works. Anyone is desperate to sign you up to the WiFi company and no one is able to fix the problems.

MEO is Begging for a Lawsuit

MEO has an order system, pedido, and i have created an order to cancel my contract using the correct menu "Conta de cliente - Cessar serviço para o nº as16330672". I have done this 3 times now, the order is opened and always 2 days later, the order is then listed as concluded and no acnowledgement, no nothing. Today at 1300h i have canceled again. With the above service nr you can see who i am and confirm this. Dont ask me to contact MEO again, please. Just get the friggin job done and cancel my service to 17 Oct 2024 as requested. If not, i have a big surprise for you.
Do you notice though how the replies are the same from MEO, cut and pasted, they dont even try to show they are trying to solve the issue. And telling people to contact them, is already the root cause of the issue in the first place. A never ending cycle. Wonder why Portugal allows this to even happen?

Update 17 Sep 24 - MEO has confirmed my contract cancellation as scheduled.

I'm paying 5 Euros for charging my…

I'm paying 5 Euros for charging my phone, not using it at all (need Portuguese phone just for DHL courier to contact me once in a month) and after 1-2 weeks of not using phone at all amount is gone. No outgoing calls, no text messages, no internet use but money are constantly gone. First charge of 5 EUR lasted for 2 months, every other one was gone in 1-2 weeks with the same usage. How is that possible that with basically zero use of that phone I have to charge it constantly?

30 days no Internet

Good day Meo

I arrived in Portugal on 30 July for summer vacation, during which time I also needed to work. When arriving at my apartment in Santa Luzia, I found that my Internet/TV was not working. I called support and they said that my internet was disconnected but they could not tell me why. On 31 July, I went to the Meo shop in Tavira to find out what the problem was. They informed me that my service had been disconnected as I had not paid an equipment fee. I was surprised as I had never heard about this fee – when I called to sign up for Meo’s services, I was not informed of this fee and never received any information on this. I also never received an email or telephone call from Meo about this. I did inform the sales person that I do not live at the apartment – it was for vacations and that I live in the Netherlands – so it was known that I was not a resident in the country. I also found that my email address was incorrect even though I called a few times to check my email address was correct as I had not received any emails from Meo, including an email with the contract details. My phone number was correct – if there was an issue and contact needed to be made, I could have been contacted by phone. This would have avoided all the following issues. To make this short and to the point - I went to the Meo shop in Tavira at least 12 times and called Meo almost every day. There was never anyone available to help me make an appointment for a technician and no one ever phoned me back as I was promised every day. A month later, I still have no internet/tv. Please urgently contact me to resolve this.

Please provide proper contact details - I see that you always just refer customers to check the support page on yur site for assistance but the only option there is to phone and that never gets any assistance any way.

Worst experience ever

Worst experience ever , no help ,no service , english speaking customer service not available .
Website terrible .
I was 5 years customer with MEO .
Ending a contract does'nt have any priority , calling back hours too late and trying only to sell you a new contract instead of doing the only thing that they should do ( ending the contract )
Finally they did it but i was busy for 2,5 hours , drove 30 km to Odemira to the MEO shop , where they don't give service to help.
Still no confirmation by E- mail but it 'll end .
At the end the young lady told me that if i change my mind i was very welkome to call them .
I told her that i'll never ever call MEO again .
Terrible company !!

MEO CARE - A SCAM

I subscribed a MEO CARE plan and it was never possible to use the service. I tried to call the service number several times and i was never able to talk or request any of the services. During this long waiting calls there is an option of pressing "#" to be contacted, when i was finally contacted it was from the general MEO number "16200" that promptly said they cannot help on any MEO CARE topics or issues. This has been going around in circles for me. The simple act of cancelling the service took me months to be able to do it and now (even not having used ANY of it) they claim i will be subject to a penalty of 90€ !!!! A SCAM of the worst kind.

Terrible Service Again, now i am gone

Changed to an internet movel and i could not recharge it. Made 2 pedidos on their website, they dont even read them. If i cant load the simcard, i cant use the internet. If you wont let me charge the card, it is your financial loss. I moved to Vodafone, works like it should.

Abysmal Support

Went without TV for a full week and support kept doing nothing about it. After hours on the phone with them, they finally booked a technician. A technician who didn't come. So that was another round of phonecalls, and the same situation happened again. Only by the third time scheduling with the technician did they come to fix it.

This was maybe 3 months ago. But now, this is the last straw with MEO's support. I was away from home and looking to use their hotspot service which they so proudly sell to you when you're signing your contract with them. As they say, they have hotspots all around Portugal for MEO clients to freely use. In their website, it even says that all you need to qualify to use them is a contract with MEO where they provide your home internet. To my surprise, when I entered my credentials to log on the hotspot, it says I can't access it. Lo and behold, when I go to myMEO, under MEO WiFi, it says "Not Active". I've spent hours on call with support, and it's like they don't even know the service exists. They keep trying to sell me mobile data.

Finally, they told me they'd try to resolve the issue in 2 days. 4 days later, I get a message saying "upon analysis we've found that there is nothing wrong"

Absolute joke, and I will be cancelling the contract.

This must be the worst phone provider I…

This must be the worst phone provider I have ever used. The prices are unreasonable, the customer support helps with NOTHING and I am getting spammed by MEO sales team regularly. Even though I have to pay over 120 euros to cancel my contract sooner, that will be the BEST 120 euros spent.

Very disappointed

Very disappointed , over charged constantly , phones and tv and internet cut off regularly , saying bills not paid , even though we have direct debit , payments continue to be taken from old discontinued account , random bills sent to us for no reason , come on MEO , I can’t believe you are this incompetent , shame on you

Fast and stable service. Excellent service when technician at home is needed.

I have been using MEO in Portugal for over 3 years. Before that I used NOS, and I did not enjoy the service (network stability issues).

I have had very good service. Only twice have I required a technician to resolve a fibre line problem, they were at my address within 2 hours the first time, and very early the next morning when I had an incident last month. (NOS technician broke my fibre line while doing an installation for the neighbour.. he did not even apologise).

Read review's before signing into the clutches of MEO.

This saga started with a rude engineer that fitted a second hand dirty router. When we told him this was not acceptable he said he can take it out and we can go elsewhere! Maximum speed was around 7 Mbps. Complaining to the shop was a waste of time. Now trying to leave meo is quite an experience but after 18 months we decided to pay meo and leave. It's one awful experience and we are happy they have finally leg us go! It's hard to believe how Meo can get away with this approach to customers. Never ever again.
