They understood the need for a more complete healthcare solution, one that encompassed both traditional health care and dispensing along with new market leading services such as Cholesterol and blood pressure health checks. The group grew over the years with three of the four McCabes sisters all being involved in the business, involvement that continues to this day. McCabes Pharmacy group now operates over 30 stores nationwide and continues to be a pioneer in the Irish pharmacy market, offering the innovative products and exceptional service that Roy and Margaret founded the business on 40 years ago

Service deterioration since rebranding of lloyds to McCabes

Since the rebranding of the existing lloyds pharmacies to McCabes, the failures of the technology employed has seen a marked deterioration in the efficiency of the delivery of required, sometimes urgent, medication. The staff have remained the same, friendly, professional, efficient people that we have come to appreciate over the years, but they have become increasingly frustrated by the failures of the support systems employed since the rebranding and we are seeing them disappear one by one.

Stay away from mccabes clarehall

Stay away from mccabes clarehall. It is a constant mess here. Nobody takes ownership of mistakes, will miss label and give you incorrect medication, blame you for it. Take ages to fill prescriptions, if they can find it (after they lose it) when you question where it is, every staff member will get involved, be shouting personal info accross the shop, the manager will shout at you to calm down (even though you dont raise your voice) when head office is contacted to complain. They get the store manager to call you, (yeah the one that is shouting at you in store that you wanted to complain about) and when you go back to head office, then they blame everyone but themselves for the mishap. Area manager been in touch 'investigated' without looking back on cameras etc and basically agreed the service is brutal, customer service abysmal but no apologies for being treated like a second class citizen in their store. Stay away. Give your money to a chemist chain that actually cares about customers and not covering their own misgivings and lack of ability to do their job correctly.

Frustrating experience

Special offer on line for an everyday item. Decided to go in store as I wouldn't have to wait for delivery. It was €5 dearer in the store. Asked a member of staff and showed her price on line. Shrugged her shoulders and said I would need to order on line. So I've ordered on line a product to be delivered to the store where there was many available to purchase. What a waste of everyone's time. Good offer, but really frustrating 😕.

Edit: Follow up, a very quick and pleasant response from customer service by phone. I feel that the problem i had will not be an issue going forward. I have increased my rating based on this.

Do not use this pharmacy

This is regarding woodstown pharmacy. I also had previous issues with the knocklyn one. So I would avoid all. If I could give zero I would. Disgraceful I highly recommend avoiding this pharmacy. This is my second McCabes pharmacy that a I gave a chance too. I will move to a local pharmacy run by a family who care about people in their communities , no more chain pharmacy’s for me. McCabes is the worst of the worst.
My prescription from my doctor was for 30 tablets a month I was given 28 when I raised this I was told it’s store policy to not give more then 28 which is a lie. I rang my doctor and they were shocked.
They confirmed the prescription is for 30 tablets. When we went back in and told the person at the counter and asked to ring my doctor she said she didn’t care.
Surely if my prescription is for 30 tablets and the pharmacy can’t give the 30 they should advise me of this when ordering so I can go elsewhere.
I am left 2 tabelts short now for this month just becuase the staff member was rude and too proud to do her job with care and concern.
It’s alarming.
They don’t care about their customers or people in general in McCabes it’s all about money.
Their staff are disgraceful and so rude and must have been hired directly off the street or taken from a gutter no people skills empathy or even an inch of customer service skills. 0 stars.Awful people avoid at all costs

McCabes Malahide Incompetence

McCabes Malahide use to provide a very good service but over the last year the service has become diabolical and they are just plain incompetent. I’ve had not one, two or three orders fulfilled incorrectly but I’m now on orders 7, 8, 9 that are always incorrect. They simply can’t be trusted to take an order over the phone or to fulfil it correctly. For example, I just had a prescription fulfilled this morning. I spoke with them over the phone about receiving the prescription, they confirmed they received the prescription and said they would prepare it. I collected it, but stupidly on my part I didn’t check it before I left the store - I thought after bringing this to their attention a few times before that they’d finally get themselves sorted - and of course the order was wrong. What’s worse is that they randomly picked stuff from my prescriptions - so the pharmacist would have seen a number of items on my file and just randomly chose two items! I just don’t understand that! My kids would do a better job of running that pharmacy.

Very High Prices

For me their prices are extortionate.
I have always got my prescriptions from the local pharmacy in Mountview as it is closest to my house.
In 2024 and 2025 my 4 regular tablets were costing about €46.38 per month. This was an increase from 2022/23.
For the first 3 months of 2026 I’m paying €13.76 per month in Chemist Warehouse. About 108% cheaper.

The Dundrum branch staff are…

The Dundrum branch staff are incompetent and treat customers horribly, then they lie and blame the customer when the customer files a complaint about it.

Update: As you can see from their “response”, they continue to lie and gaslight customers. Their Dundrum staff are absolutely not “caring” or “wonderful” and I already filed a formal complaint and McCabes did nothing about it. They never hold staff accountable so the staff continue to treat customers horribly. And from the other reviews, this is evidently a company-wide problem.

Hi Gordon, thanks for your feedback, we appreciate it. Please note the reason you believe you did not get a refund is because you were never charged for the product. Because the refund was done on the same day your order was placed, only the net amount (original order amount less refund amount) will actually show up on your a/c. If you'd like us to clarify this please contact us at customer.service@mccabespharmacy.ie . Kind Regards.

Mccabes Newcastle County Dublin. Poor service and over charging.

I get my monthly prescription in mccabes, Newcastle, Co.Dublin. I also had ordered a separate prescription I needed with Dronline.ie, who confirmed it was sent to my chosen pharmacy. I went in Thursday morning, and asked for both my monthly medication and the Dr. Online one. The woman serving was rude and unhelpful, she got my monthly prescription and then said Dr.online never sent over the other prescription. I was on my way to work, and asked if they could text me when the prescription was ready for collection, as this is a service they normally do. She snapped and said "we don't do that" , when I replied, that I've had plenty of texts before regarding collection, she then was abrupt again and said, they were too busy and that, I'd just have to call them back to see if it was ready. My prescription cost was €80.85 (I have the drugs payment scheme). On my way home from work, I phoned the pharmacy and same person answered, I asked if the prescription was ready, She again said it never was sent over from Dr. online. I got in touch with Dr online to see why they never sent the prescription, which they assured they had. The sales person in Mccabes just wasnt bothered to look it seems. My mam called Mccabes Friday morning, and a different person answered, she was helpful as are most of the staff at Newcastle, she checked for it and said that the prescription was there. I was working, so My mam went to get it for me, as I really needed it and should have started the medication the day previous. When My mam got there, it was the same unhelpful person I was dealing with the day before serving, because I'd already paid over €80 on my monthly prescription, this payment should have been covered by the drugs payment scheme, when she said there was a charge, My mam said I'd paid over €80 the previous day, she told my Mam, that I'd only paid €73.02, so owed her €6.98 which My Mam paid it, obviously thinking she was being truthful. Mccabes have €73.02 on the sticker on pharmacy bag which I only noticed after this happened Friday. So, Mccabes charged me €80.85 which i have a receipt for and proof of payment on bank statment. I was overcharged by €7.83 , the chemist bag doesn't match the amount charged. I hope this isn't a regular occurrence, I know it's not a huge amount of money, but there's plenty of elderly and vunervale people in our community who may struggle to afford prescriptions, so I'd urge the people of Newcastle to watch they're not being overcharged for their prescriptions.

Mc Cabes JC Supermarket.Swords.

Mc Cabes. JC Supermarket.Swords.i
I am a senior citizen in my eights when i phone up for my repeat prescription, nobody is there to answer and repeatedly knocks off after half an hour,i have to try and get to the shop to order it and get back there when it's ready it could be up to two days. The staff is very kind and appalagetec but they need more staff to cover their breaks and answer the phone.
Mc Cabes do not have concern for there older customers. Don't forget to ask for your free month prescription, any customer that pays eighty euros per month for one year is entitled to it at the end of the year.
They will not give it to you unless you ask for it.

Not a happy Christmas

Let down by yet another IRISH company....items (Christmas presents) were delivered to local shop for collection... when I went to collect them nobody knew anything about it....
Is it any wonder why people are sick of dealing with Irish companies on line.....
Should have paid the extra and went with Boots

Click & Collect seems to be scam

Ordered for Click&Collect on the 9th of Dec. On the 12th I emailed them asking if I could just go to the store and collect it. They replied pretty much straight away, which I thought it was great, saying the order had been dispatched on the 10th, that it should take 1-3 days to arrive to the store and to wait until contacted by the store. Even though the 12th was already in the 3 days timeframe, I decided to wait. Contacted them again on the 17th, 18th and 19th. No response any these times. So even though my order was supposedly dispatched on the 10th, today is the 19th and I haven't been contacted by the store. I definitely won't be ordering click&collect again and will most likely even try to avoid their stores.

Misleading deceptive sharp practice

⭐☆☆☆☆

Misleading Click & Collect – breach of consumer protection principles

I ordered a nebuliser for my wife after it was shown as “In Stock” and available via Click & Collect. This is a time-sensitive medical device, so I paid immediately and travelled from Navan to Blanchardstown in heavy Christmas traffic.

Only on arrival was I told the item was not physically in the store, and that “in stock” actually meant warehouse stock, with no collection until a later email.

This distinction is not clearly presented at checkout, where payment is taken. The website creates a misleading overall impression, which is precisely what Irish and EU consumer protection law prohibits under misleading commercial practices by omission.

To make matters worse, the order confirmation email simply states the order is “being prepared” and gives no warning not to travel, further reinforcing the assumption that collection was imminent.

For a pharmacy, this is unacceptable. In-store availability is material information, particularly for medical equipment, and it must be communicated clearly and prominently before purchase — not implied, diluted, or clarified only after the customer has paid and travelled.

This resulted in unnecessary travel, wasted time, and added stress while my wife was unwell.

I would strongly caution anyone relying on McCabes’ Click & Collect for urgent health items. “In stock” does not mean what you think it means.
I have since purchased a nebuliser from boots who do have a clear and concise click and collect policy where in stock means just that

Shauna- A brilliant Ambassador - GOREY WEXFORD MAINSTREET

I wanted to write a review regarding Shauna, who works upstairs in the chemist and looks after everyone who needs help with Fujifilm pictures.
Every Christmas I travel specifically to Shauna who helps me with all my thoughtful & Sentimental picture presents. Shauna has to be one of the nicest, patient, warmest people you can come across. Her professionalism is next to none. I asked for the manager to pass on the compliment in person the last day, however she was not working so I spoke with the Pharmacist, he said he would pass it on. I wanted to follow up online with this review because she is so deserving of the gesture. She is brilliant at what she does. There aren't many people like that left in the industry. Thanks again Shauna- Aoife Crowe
