Macmillan nurse came to fill out forms, showed no interest in my Mum as a person. When my Mum was upstairs being sick I was holding my Mum and mopping her face, while the "nurse" continued sitting downstairs with her cup of tea looking at her forms. That is not the caring nurse that I expected (don't believe the smiley adverts). We never heard from them after the initial visit and to be honest I wouldn't have wanted them. Zero advice, zero empathy, zero practical use. Shame I have to give even one star. My Mum has since passed but this still annoys me to this day. When you are confronted by the diagnosis of terminal cancer you look for support not someone to come round have tea and biscuit then disappear, totally useless!!

Just saw Macmillan reply to my post and it's just waffle. There are already nurses on the cancer wards working with the patients so do not need more highly paid nurses in talking jobs.So many people dying in agony because of poor pain relief and little or no contact with Consultants. My friends Father died in terrible pain while his allocated Macmillan nurse looked on.The family spoke to a Jnr Dr who couldn't prescribe proper pain relief so had to ring another hospital. This is happening everywhere.Macmillan waste of time.
The rating says it all tbf. My dad had terminal cancer, they showed up up once and never bothered again. I rang them a fair few times and they weren't interested. Disgraceful service, and I have declined to give to any fundraisers since. My experience was 8 years ago now, but it doesn't look like anything has changed from the comments, and that's really disappointing.

Im writing this review about the MacMillan buddy service not the support line.
I have not been very happy with the service thus far as I feel you get treated like a child. First of all your buddy gets to withold their number so you cant contact them and have to go through a kind of babysitter to arrange talks with them.
I understand that some people do not wish to disclose their number however one person is disclosing their number and if there was really any kind of issue with harrassment they could be blocked or removed from the service.
After all presumably these are 2 adults communicating with each other.
The idea in theory is a really good one. Both of you have been through cancer and could provide emotional support but all this other gatekeeping has really put me off the whole idea Im afraid. I think I would be better off just talking to a friend!

hi , i called the macmillian hotline to report/complain that a year on , i was never given any support after been diagnosed with colon cancer , i was fobbed off by 1 elderly macmillian female worker , i wonder how many other people there are around the uk that have been left to rot , post cancer , you see these macmillian glossy adverts on the tv and newspapers , the reality sadly is a different story indeed .

The interviewer said she had a confirmation bias from people coming into the sector from industry - and openly admitted a ‘few bad experiences.’
Everyone was middle class, female and white - absolutely no diversity.
My mother in law had terminal.cancer. mcmillan were now where to be seen, promised but never did a thing... disgusting. Sam Bear Hospice were and still are amazing ... shame on you mcmillan

A close friend of mine was diagnosed with Cancer.
She didn't ask for a Mcmillan Nurse, but was assigned one whether she wanted it or not.
The Mcmillan nurse spoke to her for just 5 minutes and reassured her she would be there, every step of the way and could answer any questions she might have.
That was about 6 weeks ago.
Since then the Mcmillan nurse has not even rung her to see how she is. The Mcmillan nurse gave her a business card with her name and contact number on it and told her she could call her anytime.
She could too, as the number goes to voicemail every time. Nursing by remote I assume.
They are absolutely pathetic.
I don't know if this is a generation thing, or is it that they are all utterly useless.
They over promise and deliver nothing.

rang for help for my dad was asked does he want to make a will i said he has nothing to leave and your advice was go elsewhere and try C.A.B for benefits which as i told them that was already sorted then said join a support group in the local area this was in the height of covid so no groups running plus he was too ill to do that i nursed him until he passed on my own

I have advanced Lymphoma. All I needed was a letter to state my condition and housing would have re-housed us. No one at Macmillan, either the admin or the hospital nurses would help. All they would say is what they can't do. Now, I am trying to close my account with them, they are saying I haven't got an account I was already logged into. An awful company that should not be working with people who suffer from cancer. Avoid them.

I would give less than one star if I could. My mum died of cancer, received one call from these people then nothing at all.
My 42 Yr old son also died of cancer . Missed one call from the .tried to ring ba, no answer . No furtcontact from then . Both were refferd by hospitals. These people are very poor at doing what they say they do. Give to cancer research instead of lining peoples pockets with your grief...

My wife was given a terminal diagnosis with colon cancer In April, and died on the 1st of May. All of the nurses and hca's were amazing but the one thimg that let the whole experience down were the Macmillan nurses. They were pushy, rude invasive and clearly not apt to dealing with People. They would forget to turn up to sort out the driver, they said they would sort out various things for us and just disappeared into these sunset. They failed to control my wife's pain and frankly they weren't nice people, to the point we wanted to go private to get away from them. A useless collection of people without the necessary skills to to even talk to cancer patients, let alone treat them.

Honestly disgusted with this company. They where supposed to help ease the suffering of my grandmother's boyfriend wez and they did absolutely sod all till his final hours. They left him to suffer. Along with my grandma. She had to watch the man she loved slowly lose his mind due to his blood flooding with toxins because of his terminal liver cancer. They where supposed to arrive weeks ago to help my grandma and him with whats to come and provide ways to ease the pain and suffering in his final days. This is pure neglegence and cruelty thats is borderline criminal. How this company can be allowed to continue doing business if this is what they do. Heals where dragged at every turn. This man did not deserve this. They let a good man suffer till his final moments to die in my grandmother's arms.

Just a waste of time, asked for advice months ago twice for my partner, said they would call back on both occasions , now it’s too late.

After searching hard online to find the answer to a couple of questions I phoned MacMillan and they were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. I needed to know how long I was likely to have a low immune system after just a lumpectomy without radiation or chemo and straight away I was told 6-12 weeks. I also asked about having had reconstruction what my options would be if I wasn't happy with it, and again got a very clear answer and told that I'd have options and what they were. It was all very impressive and I got through very quickly too! Very helpful.

My Radiotherapy contact person contaced MacMillian abut getting counselling for me around 7 weeks ago. I heard nothing. I popped into their office in my local oncology department and a form was filled in, as the one I had phoned in myself a couple of weeks prior was not in the system. That was around three and five weeks ago. NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. Imagine my surprise then, on doing a Google search, i discovered i could book a telephone wellbeing assessment myself direct. i hve done so. I come from a background of not trusting Macmillan due to how very bad their nurses were on visits to my dying Mother and sister in law in 203 and 4.. both lived nearby to one another in Gloucestershire. I am in East Anglia all these years later. Sorry.. what a let down. At least acknowledge that I have reached out several times due to my distress.
Plese don't lecture me that you are a charit and have finite resources. I know that. i am not asking to jump any queues - I am asking for the common decency of an acknowledgement I and others ahve been in touch about me

Mcmillan really need to stop giving false information about benefits, telling people with cancer that they cannot claim PIP unless they are at deaths door. This is wrong, you don't need to be at deaths door to claim PIP. This is the answer they gave my son when he enquired about it, also telling people with cancer that they can't claim PIP if still working, ofcourse they can. I suggest you get someone working in welfare rights or CAB to work with your people as they haven't got a clue. Or is it they just can't be bothered to help with the forms that need filling out, so give wrong information instead.

I have cancer and needed help filling in the medical section of a housing form. I needed to see someone face to face for guidance on how to answer the questions on the form but instead I was referred by Macmillan on to Citizens Advice. What is the point of a Cancer charity that claims to offer support but then refers patients to other services? Their failure to help me just added to my distress. I lost trust that there is support for cancer patients due to Macmillan's response. Having cancer is a dark and lonely journey made worse when you find out that the support advertised is bogus. I hope all the one star reviews shame this organisation into offering meaningful help in the future but it's more likely that this arrogant charity will ignore them just as it treats cancer patients.
