Bad App, Poor Customer Service

Poor app functionality, and horrible customer service. Honestly, it's a nice little company if you're local, but if you're going to heavily rely on the app or online support, do yourself a favor, and bank elsewhere!

Like the girl with the curl

Has sometimes been very good, sometimes awful. I’ve been a member since it was the teachers credit union.
Good: many great folks work there - some even friends, when things are smooth, they are very smooth
Bad: Individuals seem to be allowed/encouraged to get up in your business- I overheard 2 co-workers gossiping about an interaction they had witnessed between my husband &I. After paying off a 20 K car loan, I got a denial & lecture about consumer debt (including info about my husband’s finances when we had separate accounts) when I wanted to borrow $6K.
They send out text fraud alerts but also warn customers not to respond to texts about fraud. It seems like some employees enjoy being snotty just because they can.

Horrible time financing with LMCU

Absolutely HORRIBLE, gave me a CPI charge even though I’m insured and have changed my policy to meet their requirements and they want ME to jump through all these hoops just to fix their mistake.

Alpine Branch

I have been a member for over 25 years and am having trouble with withdrawing $9,500.00 from my account, which has never happened before. Shawn Gallagher, the Alpine branch manager, has questioned me as to what I want to do with the money and consulted with the fraud department who are requiring documentation of the bills I want to pay with the money. Total BS! Since when is it their business what I do with MY money? Got some line about protecting members from fraud. Who appointed them judge and jury? This whole ordeal has cost been a waste of time, a violation of my rights and an invasion of my privacy. If this is how people who have been members for 25+ years are treated, BEWARE! Consider banking elsewhere.

Been a longtime Account Holder with…

Been a longtime Account Holder with LMCU. CD's, homeloans, checking and savings accounts.
They recently closed my HELOC with zero formal notice and refused to consider reinstatement. They told me they tried to call but my voice mail was full. No email, no DM in my online account, no notification from local tellers. Nope, was told my voicemail was full.
Nothing I can do at this point except per their solution "re-apply" and pay all their fees and appraisals. They are refusing to even respond to further communication, so I will just wait for my CD's to mature and move all my money. Not a way to treat an account holder with an upstanding history with your organization.
I do not recommend doing business with LMCU, there are plenty of other credit unions ready to do business.

Avoid Lake Michigan Credit Union

Avoid Lake Michigan Credit Union at All Costs – Terrible Experience with Construction to Permanent Loan

I would never recommend working with Lake Michigan Credit Union. Things started off smoothly when I began the construction loan process, but once the loan was approved, everything went downhill.

Jim, the loan originator, became impossible to get clear answers from. Every time I asked for details about my mortgage payments, he would just send over generic spreadsheets instead of giving me concrete numbers. I was supposed to close and convert to a conventional 30-year mortgage. At closing, they failed to collect the correct amount of prepaid interest—they only collected enough for about 3–4 weeks.

Then, to my surprise, I get an email weeks after closing asking for $4,000 in interest that should’ve been accounted for from the start. I was told I had to make that payment plus my regular mortgage payment within 30 days—even though I was supposed to skip the first month of payments. I closed on March 7th, and my first mortgage payment isn’t due until May 1st. So why am I being hit with thousands in unexpected charges weeks after moving in?

When I reached out for help, Erin (the loan closer) said there was nothing she could do. Then I spoke to her manager (also named Erin), who just gave me excuses and the runaround. I asked them to start the mortgage earlier if they needed the money so badly—they said no, it couldn’t be done. Meanwhile, they still want $4,000 for 45 days of interest when they should have only charged for 7 days.

This is not my first loan—far from it—and I’ve never seen anything like this. No explanation, no accountability, no help. Just stress and financial scrambling after closing. I’m already in the process of refinancing because I refuse to stay with a company that can’t properly manage a loan.

If I could give negative stars, I would. Avoid Lake Michigan Credit Union at all costs.

I am also filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

Stay away from this credit union!

I must emphasize the importance of avoiding this credit union for any loan-related needs. Our experience has been consistently problematic, with their loan services failing to meet our expectations. Despite our diligence in meeting all requirements, their ineptitude has caused significant inconvenience. As a result, I am currently arranging a meeting with my personal bank to facilitate a loan transfer, thereby ending our relationship with this institution.

What an awful experience

What an awful experience! A Transfer from my Checking at LMCU to SoFi was cancelled without warning, on top of that you have o jump through hoops to get to the bill pay, then they dont update your phone number, so you cant confirm their
"security" transactions that are invalid anyways. Reminds me of banking from 30 years ago. Get you apps and web experience updated and you might survive the next bank crisis, cause you guys are on top of the shooting list.

LMCU is not only the best Credit Union…

LMCU is not only the best Credit Union or financial institution I have ever worked with but I am an employee as well. I have been here for over 5 years and will never leave this company. This is truly the best company I have worked for in my 55 years of life. I wish I came here earlier in life. The growth and education they offer is unlike any other employer I have had. They truly care about you as an employee and as a person! This place is like a family and the love shown here makes me want to come to work everyday! The culture is amazing!!

Glad I made the switch

I have recently switched to LMCU from another local CU and the difference is insurmountable to say the least.
They made everything easy, everyone is polite and informative and they even went above and beyond to help me out when I had accrued some fees.
