The class was Inspiring and having deep insights

The course provided great learning for solo improv performance. The coach is very calm and kind also wonderfully experienced about the performance so I am really glad to work on my performance during the workshop. It was a fantastic help as an experienced performer I would love to come back and continue to practice there.

Improv class not cringe

I had not thought of doing an improv class before I became aware of David Elms doing one. He is a man at the absolute top of his game who knows everything that's worth knowing about improv, with half a lifetime's worth of professional experience. And yet - he is not a proscriptive teacher and the course gives you the freedom to use the tools he gives you in any way you'd see fit. He is constantly encouraging and takes great joy in teaching and it is a pleasure to hear what he has to say. I would strongly recommend this course to people of all experience levels.

Super fun experience, highly recommend

Super fun experience at David's Improv Jam, recommend to anyone, regardless if you're advanced or brand new to improv! David was lovely - welcoming, kind and funny, and made improv feel like fun. I didn't feel stressed or intimidated for a moment even though most of the people were a lot more experienced. Everyone was lovely, the venue is really cool, great location, and the bar does drinks as well as hot tea. Highly recommend.

Wonderful, gentle teaching

David is a wonderful teacher. Never placing himself in the spotlight, but always celebrating his pupils. He's able to get anyone to think like a seasoned improviser, and feel confident in taking it slow.

He's more into clown and mine than highly cerebral acts, and it's infectious.

I highly recommend his workshops and jams... I'm beginning to be a mega fan :)

I really like David's style

I really like David's style, no shouting, overreacting, or exaggerating for jokes. He's a bit deadpan and calm, with a subtle but convincing and clear way of directing scenes. He encourages more activities instead of people just arguing or circling around topics, which keeps everything fresh and engaging. Sometimes he even joins the scene himself, which is always so helpful and fun! Such a great community, thanks to his leadership.

Utter joy

David Elms Describes a Room was utter joy. David created a magical evening, so much warmth and brilliantly funny. It felt very special and experiencing it in Mr Bingo's shop was inspiring.

An incredibly welcoming and inclusive course for all.

This was the first improv course I’ve ever done, which could have been intimidating but David has created a course that is welcoming and inclusive to everyone, whether a beginner like me or more seasoned improvisers. David’s ethos of slowing things down and focusing on being present in the moment is enhanced by clear direction and a structure that allows people to find their way through. Rather than overloading the players with theory or too many things to remember at once.

Would highly recommend the 8 week long course or any of the other Leap- Day events!

8 Week Course

David’s 8 week course gave me the opportunity to build back up improv confidence and fall in love with improv again.

I learnt a lot from this course and David was excellent at making it a relaxed and enjoyable environment. The analogies were really helpful and what is so great about David’s teachings is, improv doesn’t have to be that complicated. His method is refreshing and straightforward.

Would definitely recommend to beginners, improvers and experienced players.

Fun relaxed intuitive approach to long form improv

I did the leapday 8 week improv course. For context this wasn't my first improv course, and I am a regular performer.

I found David's approach to improv fun, relaxed and very intuitive; which I really gelled well with. I would definitely recommend the course for newcomers and more experienced players

David’s the best teacher/improviser/guy

This 8 week improv course is the best intro you could ever have! David creates such a good environment in the room, and makes learning what can be quite a daunting art form very easy to understand. Seasoned players were also in attendance and I felt so encouraged to learn from and play with everyone. It was the most fun I’ve had in ages!

David creates a fantastic atmosphere and keeps the learning practical, allowing for discovery through play and performance.

The most impressive thing was how this worked for everyone of all levels of experience and left me feeling confident to get up as part of a team

Improved my confidence, felt funny, had fun

David led our group on an 8-week course, where with each session I felt myself and witnessed the other participants grow in confidence and ability consistently.

He kept a group of 12 different people on task, with good humour and gentle but helpful guidance. I've never done any improv before his course but now I'm excited to get on stage with the new friends I've made on his course.
