Terrible - Do Not Hire

Terrible. Computer "fixed" 7/3/25 and although problem continued, the service did not. Was told the "tech called you and if you didn't answer he closes the file". WHAT? Called many times 7/8 - 7/17 and computer seems to be fixed and then goes RIGHT BACK TO THE SAME PROBLEM. There are not enough words to express the complete disatisfaction with this group who are not really a company but guys who seem self employed. When I asked to speak to Karl, I was told "he doesn't deal with these issues", who does? No one and if you want us to come back out it's another $129. Ridiculous. Terrible. Awful. Horrible. BBB is getting another complaint on this one. Seems there are already some there, wish I had looked at this sooner.

Karl's Technology - Stay Away whatever name they are using come to…

I was looking to have someone come to my residence to do some work on my desktop PC. I ended up contacting “Converse Computer Repair” which I found out later was one of the names Karl’s Technology uses across the country. They said they could have someone out the next day.

The tech arrived at 3pm last Wednesday (6 Jun). The job was to replace the existing 128gb SSD "C" drive with the new 500gb SSD drive I purchased.

I sat in the room where he was working and at 3:45 I could tell he was having a problem with something- so I asked him. He said he was having a problem getting a screw out that was holding the drive.

At 4pm he said he got it (one hour after he started) and showed me the drive. I was concerned when I saw what he had so I went and looked at it and told him that wasn't the SSD it was the 1TB data backup “D” drive!

He said his instructions for the job were wrong or incomplete....

He took another 10-15 minutes to reinstall the "D" drive.

Then he started looking for the SSD and couldn't find it, even asking me to look. Since I'm not a computer tech I had no idea.

At one point he said he thought the optical DVD/CD drive was the "C" drive and I said no it was the DVD drive. After a while he asked if I would be ok if he took out the DVD and put the SSD there - I said no.

He went back to looking and finally said he had found it - it was a stick (a NVMe like RAM) rather than the 2.5" drive - but it took him 30 minutes to recognize it - in a very small empty pc case.

Then at 4:45 he said he didn't have the adaptor he needed to connect the 2.5” SSD I bought but thought he had one in his car. He didn't. So the tech can’t recognize one of the two main types of SSD drives and doesn’t carry the adaptor to connect the most common one (had I known I would have bought one with the drive).

He said he would leave and go get one and come back that evening. He required that I pay him at that point - and I said for what - all he had done that had anything to do with what I had requested was to take the front and side off the case and identify the SSD. Since my PC was open and nothing had been done, I said I would pay it - but that I would be fighting it. He mentioned I would have to pay him again when he came back and actually fixed my PC. He left at 4:50 - almost 2 hours after he arrived - and nothing had been done that I had requested.

At 7:30 I hadn’t heard anything so I called the number he had called me from and got the voice mail. A half hour or so later someone called and asked what I needed and I told him we were sitting there waiting. He said he'd check on it.

No one called back Wednesday evening.

Around 8am on Thursday the tech called and said he understood I had called and wanted to know why....I told him because he said he would be back, never did, and didn't let us know.

He said the part wasn't in stock (?)and since it probably wouldn't be there on Thursday, he said he'd have to come on the 17th when he got back (11 days from then)....no apology for not letting me know.

They have a note on their emails saying the customer would have to pay for an hour if we didn't let them know about a change. What about when they don't?

I took my desktop to a local place who repaired it in less than 24 hours at less than half the price Karl’s had charged me for doing nothing.

I sent a request for a full refund on the 10th – explaining it all. A few days later they came back and said the billing was correct but they would offer a 30-minute refund if I would sign a waiver form keeping me from taking any further action. I refused and said I wanted a full refund. I asked them if I had contracted to mow their lawn, shown up and got the lawnmower out and left 2 hours later without cutting the lawn – would they pay me? They came back again today and refused a refund.

RUN from this company

RUN from this company. They are dishonest and do not tell you about their fees upfront. We booked an appointment and had to cancel 2 hours later. They invoiced us over $180.00 for canceling.

Mind you the cancellation was not even that... it was a reschedule due to our bank account being hacked from a gas pump purchase. We just wanted to get the money to pay them back in our account from the bank the next business day to reschedule.

NO MATTER THE REASON THOUGH, THEY NEVER TOLD US OF A CANCELLATION FEE.
