I interviewed four salespeople about their dress, grooming and communication with customers.
Shane (Toyota, car sales) wears a tailored shirt, tie and polished shoes, and avoids strong aftershave, because customers must trust him with a big purchase. He communicates consultatively: he asks open questions about needs and budget, listens more than he talks, offers an early test drive and follows up within a day. He is honest about a car's weaknesses.
Jono (Sport Store, clothing) wears the branded uniform and current shoes from the store's range, treating his appearance as part of the display. He greets customers within a minute, then lets them browse. He reads body language, compliments sincerely and suggests matching items.
Travis (McDonald's manager, food) prioritises hygiene: clean uniform, hair tied back or capped, short clean nails, no hand jewellery and frequent handwashing. He greets customers warmly, uses regulars' names, asks about allergies and fixes complaints immediately.
Carley (insurance adviser) dresses conservatively in a dark suit or blazer, removing the jacket for home visits to seem approachable. She uses plain language and examples, checks understanding, is open about costs and exclusions, and keeps in touch through annual reviews.
Overall, all four said first impressions matter and that appearance should suit the industry. All listen, ask questions and build relationships. Car sales and insurance are slower and more consultative, while food and clothing are quicker and more casual.

The humaniser does not preserve the essay's meaning; after several attempts, it failed to understand the scholarly arguments and completely changed the paragraph's meaning. Also, it seems to humanise it to the lowest possible level; the writing becomes almost childlike.
