Joyrent Italy car hire has gone bust

Joyrent.it Italy. I really don't understand why there is no more details of this company going bust/liquidation on the internet.
Their website is still there - although you can't book any cars. Nobody answers the phone at their head office or at Bari airport (where I made my booking) No-one replies to my emails either.

Stay away from this company.

Do not book your car with Joyrent

Do not book your car with Joyrent. Their offices are closed down but their website still accepts bookings! We arrived in Olbia and got to know that they closed down. They do not answer emails and phone calls. Be careful!

How to ruin your holidays

Refused to return our deposit of 600€ although we hadn't damaged the car and had full cover. Had to involve lawyers from the European Consumer Centre to claim our money back, which took a painstaking 6 months of back and forth. Nothing short of thievery.

We were forced to take the full cover of 300€ on arrival, because we only had a debit card (vs a credit card). This was obviously not refunded.

The car was horrible to drive, semi-automatic (although indicated as automatic on the contract), and we had to return it mid-way through our trip because it had an engine issue.

To top it all off, the staff were also extremely rude and pressing - probably because they looked overwhelmed and worked to the bone.

In a line, there is nothing "joyful" about Joyrent. Stay away at all costs.

61eur - fraud and still no any answer

First of all, we have been charged for 61 eur because we arrived in their office in a late hours (out of time) because of our flight delay. And I consider it is a bad practise because even if you book a car for a late hours, you are not informed for that extra charge. It was in international Bergamo airport.

And after few months, my credit card where charged for another 61eur by Joyrent Palermo, where I have never been before. I checked my spam folder. There was no any notifications for additional charges or penalties. Emailed to cutomercare(at)joyrent.it and after a week no any answer. I consider it is a fraud. Be careful and after you use Joyrent - block you credit card and register a new one.

Ryanair has proposed this rental…

Ryanair has proposed this rental company as a solution in order to rent a car without credit card but with debit. My experience was dissastrous!!! I do not reccomend them at all. They have charged me for 5 days 500€ as quarantee and they gave me back only the 200€ as a penalty in case of car damages which there aren't. apart from this I had fines that informed me post dated and not only I had to pay all the amount but also they charged me 60€ per fine as handling fees.

We expected a bigger car

We expected a bigger car - I booked an Opel Astra Estate and got a much smaller Opel, the Crossover model, where we hardly could get in our 4 normal bags. It is surprising that you have these two models in the same class. We asked for a bigger car, but the staff told us there were no bigger cars to rent. The mechanican was helpful and fixed so that we could squeeze in our bags.

It was my biggest pleasure to rent the car

It was my biggest pleasure to rent the car from great company Joyrent.
Very professional and fantastic people working in Catania office.
Zero problems, no asks. Just fast renting and joy with really new car as I wished (Fiat 500c).
I reccomend to everyone who will come to Catania. Just Joyrent. No queues and no stress. Great job!

We picked up our rental car at Bari…

We picked up our rental car at Bari Airport. Instead of the Fiat 500 we booked, we received an Opel Karl, which was great! The car was almost new, very clean and had no damages.

Returning the car and getting back the deposit was also not a big deal. The whole process of returning the deposit to my bank account took about three days.

All in all I can recommend booking a car at Joyrent and I will surely come back as a happy customer.

The Italian dream come true

We rented a car last year, and yes we did wait far too long to pick it up once we arrived at the airport. When it was ready we did a check of the car with a member of staff and tootled off with it. We drove over a thousand miles during our stayed and loved that car. At all times the staff were very friendly and polite. I write this review much later because while we were travelling we managed to park somewhere we shouldn’t have and received a fine. In order to pay that fine I spent several hours on line trying to work out what to do. I don’t speak Italian and it was a long process but thank God for google translate! Eventually I phoned the rental and my contact Alicia, has gone above and beyond to help me. Companies need to understand that their product is actually the people and they can only be as good as the resources they are given. I can see all the reviews, but am also mindful that generally People are willing to complain but when a job has been done as we think it should be we say nothing. I will use Joyrent again. We are all lucky to travel as we do today, and it is an actual joy when you come into contact with the likes of Alicia. Thank you.

Stay away from them

Stay away from them, they will try everything to scam you extra money, even if it was prepaid. Check the tires of your car, the accessories, they will find something to charge you. Be aware, avoid this company at any cost!

Scam company (run away from it)

I rented a Mercedes Vito in June 2019. I waited almost 2h in order to get the car that was already booked several days before, so I didn't checked all the sratches/damage of the car and didn't took pictures of them.
After a week I bought back the car (without new scratches or damage), but when I was retriving the car 2 employees of the company checked the car as 2 detectives and they wanted to charge extra money for damages that were already made before I rented it.
I refused to pay and had to made a complaint.
After several months I noticed that my credit card was charged by 61€. I sent an email to Joyrent and they answered me that it was related to administrative costs for dealing with a traffic fine. Only then they emailed a copy of the fine (until then I didn't knew I had a fine). 61€ FOR ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS?!?! Thieves!!! The paper they use have diamonds in it??
I complaint of that cost but after several emails from me they never answer back again.
After one month I'm shocked as I see another 61€ charged from my credit card again!!!
This is a matter for police intervention!!!
RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY

We rent a Jeep Renegade from this…

We rent a Jeep Renegade from this company which we pick up at Bergamo airport. Arriving to the airport we were surprised that we should pay additional 370 euro for protection of the car for 6 days, whereas we have already pay for protection during our booking. Despite the fact that we insured the car they keep deposit ao amount 600 euro. After three days when we were in Florence there was a problem with the car as we were not able to switch on the car as the the key was not entering. We called their office at Bergamo and they told us that they can change the car and gave us another car but with manual transmission whereas we booked a car with automatic transmission for the same price. After taking the car they put another 800 euro hold on my account without informing me about it. When we go to drop off the car at 03:00 at Rome Ciampino we found that at that time their office is closed but in reservation there was nothing about it. The drop off place was opened at 4:00 and we left the keys on the front desk of the company and leave Italy. Returning to my country I found that they take additional 60 euro for which they didn't tell us. I will never recommend this company to other people.

Small rental company with poor choise

Small rental company with poor choise of cars.
Most car rentals are out of service. The first car was with low level of motor oil and i needed to return the car for change with other. The other car was lower class than first car.
The office was far from the airport and I needed to call by phone for coming the staff and driving to the office.

Joyrent Catania Airport

Hard to find the rental desk at Catania airport. Hardly any signs to direct behind Terminal C. Booked through Cartrawler and was given Opel Corsa which later broke down and had to be replaced to Opel Crossland. Staff spoke limited English but it wasn't too much of an issue. Not worth buying road assistance as if the car breaks down beyond repair at the roadside it will be towed away and YOU will have to make your way back (somehow) to hire desk for replacement! MAKE SURE YOU DOUBLE, TRIPLE CHECK the car for additional damage not marked on hire agreement before driving off! I had to report 6 additional scratches, cracks and dents! Also take photos of every corner of the car as well as fuel level.

Never again

The service was nothing special, however 4 months after the vacation they forwarded us a parking fee notice (in Italian without translation) via email stating that we should pay 96 EUR of penalty and they also deducted additional 61 EUR of handling fee from my credit card (for forwarding a single email?). Lesson learned, never go with them again and always read the small print!

Terrible service and cheating

Terrible service and cheating! They have deducted 61 Euro from my account 5 months after we rented our car. I have written to them for what it is and they will not return. If they were a serious company, then they returned with an explanation.

Rental agency didn't give the car

Rental agency didn't give the car booked. They charged same for a car of a much lower category. The agents at the rental desk were aweful and not willing to help
