I was genuinely exchis is a medical program that refuses to acknowledge or accommodate legitimate medical issuesited to participate…
I was genuinely excited to participate in the Atlantis Athens, Greece summer program. Unfortunately, my experience with this organization has been deeply disappointing and frankly unjust.
I was scheduled to attend the program in the summer of 2026. However, due to unforeseen mental health challenges, I was forced to take medical leave from my university, withdraw from study abroad, and return home. Given the seriousness of my situation, I made the decision to reach out to Atlantis and explain my circumstances. I asked if they would be willing to work with me, as it would not be safe or appropriate for a student struggling with mental health to travel internationally alone and participate in a hospital-based program.
I also submitted full medical documentation supporting my situation. This documentation was formally reviewed and accepted by my college in granting my medical leave. Despite this, Atlantis refused to acknowledge or accept the same verified documentation.
Instead of receiving understanding or compassion, I was met with rigid policies and a complete lack of flexibility. After realizing that a refund was not being considered, I tried to find alternative solutions. I proposed donating my spot to another student and asked whether my participation could be deferred until I am medically well enough to fully benefit from the experience. Both requests were denied without meaningful consideration.
This response is not only disheartening, it is deeply concerning. This is a medical program that refuses to acknowledge or accommodate legitimate medical issues. That feels hypocritical, inappropriate, and fundamentally unjust.
I did not choose to face these challenges, and I could not have predicted my circumstances at the time of payment. I acted responsibly by prioritizing my health, providing verified documentation, and communicating honestly, yet I have been met with inflexibility and disregard. This experience has left me feeling unsupported and very disappointed in an organization that should understand the importance of health and well-being.
