No air con - 35 degree heat. No warning air cons wasn’t working

The hottest months of the year, the A/C never works, only the ladies area which should be made available to all when the A/C is not working. Ask management what’s going on with it, they feed me a load waffle, considering I’m from an engineering background, it’s laughable. The gym should be shut on the grounds of health and safety when the temperatures are excessive. Over a 1000 members and no water cooler, again laughable. The kit isn’t too bad tbh if breaks its roughly about 3 to weeks and it will be fixed, one of the smith machines is bent and the floor plate of the seated calf machine is sheared. The space is good. Watch out for the cleaner, she is often having mental episodes in the changing rooms, she also likes to clean when there are naked men around, which I raised previously with staff, who say it’s absolutely fine, I’m sure a male cleaner would not be allowed in the ladies whilst they are getting changed. It’s what as I class as a basic gym that includes most of the users too, who never put weights away, hog machines and sit on their phones. Most trained there for years and look exactly the same as they did when they started. When you make noise and lift heavy weights your looked at like a madman. If the A/C worked I would give it another 2 stars.

Been a member of JD Southend gym for 6 years and think its a great gym, staff always helpful and friendly my only issue is in the summer months the aircon never works well in hot weather, they never seem to solve the problem, every year its the same, on Sunday the gym was 28.4degrees, I found it very difficult to train.

No air con in a heatwave? Someone’s gonna pass out soon…

Staff are friendly and good. Range of equipment is very good and maintained well. Negative are the aircon. Last year it wasmt functioning properly and this year appears to be the same. It makes training very uncomfortable in 26 degrees.

Clean gym, no one stares at you and the staff are friendly and helpful. My PT, Joseph is kind, engaging, knowledgeable and enjoys a banter to keep me training, even when I don’t want to!!

I had a PT session with Joseph, he made me feel really comfortable, he explained everything thoroughly, very friendly and approachable would definitely highly recommend,

Gym has plenty of equipment with enough duplicates to make it usable. Clean and easy to access.
My only negative is that like many gyms these days staff appear a little cold and don’t appear to interact with new members.
Gyms used to be a place where you would socialise as well as workout. Nature of the times unfortunately?
This does not impact my ability to complete my workouts, therefore for functionality seems adequate.

from joining through to my first visit . So
much equipment there , although busy didn’t have to queue at any stage .

4/5 could do with some better equipment in the ladies only area. I often find it better for myself to go late at night so not so many people are there. It would also help if there was a QR code on every piece of equipment showing the noobies how to do the exercise correctly instead of guessing or having to “google it” apart from these points it’s very friendly everyone minds their own business so no one is judging you or what you are doing. A lot of equipment to choose from only machines are missing are crunch machine a few others for calf’s. Would recommend

Simple access great value for money! I only use classes and so far they have been excellent. Gym instructors have been amazing and the gym is clean and well kept. I think the weights in the studio could be improved as the hand weights are shabby and poor range no 4/5kg or 6Kg weights.

Really enjoying it. They have all the equipment I need and it’s a very nice environment.

Southend JD Gym: There was no reception available if you get stuck at the door. My QR code didn’t work, my son went through, and I had to wait in the car as there was no one there to help.

I am, however, eagerly waiting for the sauna to be installed, as that is currently missing. Once that’s done, it will definitely deserve a 5-star review.

Pleas turn on the heating at jd sports Southend on sea at 4am… there’s no point in it being 24hrs if it’s absolutely freezing in the mornings

Sam & her team bring a whole new vibe to JD in Southend. Looks much cleaner, organised & well managed compared to previous years.
Good range of equipment with nice sized studios & plenty of classes to choose from. Love it here & the people are great too. 100% the best gym in Southend 💪

JD Gyms in Southend has been my gym for the past four years. It is a well-equipped, clean, and professionally run facility, always staffed by a team of knowledgeable personal trainers.
For the last three years, I have trained with Robert Camp, who is fully qualified and insured. Training on my own did not deliver the results I was hoping for, but working with Robert has made a significant difference. He carefully demonstrates correct techniques and posture, ensuring every exercise is performed safely and effectively.
As a result, I have seen a marked improvement in my physical strength and stamina. I highly recommend both JD Gyms Southend and Robert Camp to anyone serious about improving their fitness.
