I was scammed of £2000 "deposit for a new roof" that is not needed

James from Inline Roofing and Building has agreed to install new gutters for my house for £750. When James arrived on the 7th of January and started taking the gutters down, he claimed that fascia, and felt was also rotten and started ripping them off. James said that my whole roof is in such a state that it can start leaking/ collapsing at any moment. He provided me with an estimate of £15,000 for a new roof and demanded an immediate deposit of £2000 to be transferred to him and a further £2000 - £3000 in cash to be ready by Friday the 9th of January, when he will start the work. After receiving My "deposit for a new roof" of £2000 James jumped into his lorry and disappeared. He left my back garden and both flat roofs with lots of debris and some broken roof tiles. I was worrying about the roof as it's a very big and expensive project I've never dealt with before. I researched on the internet the costs and reviews about James' previous work, they were mixed with complaints about his unreliability and leaving work incomplete and not answering the phone calls. I sent a message to James that I want a second opinion. He rang me and yelled at me; I spent a sleepless night worrying. Another roofer arrived the following day and after inspection, said there is absolutely nothing wrong with my roof. He gave me a written quote for the new fascia, soffits and guttering to be installed and already has put up scaffolding. I sent a message to James, that I want my deposit back. He is refusing to return my money. I now need to pay another professional roofer £4700 to repair the damage James has done to my house.
