Cards are difficult to transfer to another person as well as for transit, and hard to rectify issues once in Amsterdam. Not terribly useful if your trip is shorter than 3 days.

I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with the experience I had with the I Amsterdam card service, which significantly impacted what was intended to be a pleasant visit to Amsterdam.
Prior to our trip, I purchased two 72-hour I amsterdam Cards online, for which we paid a total of €198. The instructions provided indicated that the cards could be easily activated through the mobile application with a simple click. Unfortunately, this proved to be inaccurate. Upon arriving in Amsterdam, we discovered that activation via the app was not possible, leaving us unable to use the service we had paid for. As a result, we spent several hours on our first day attempting to resolve this issue, causing considerable inconvenience and disruption to our plans.
After extensive effort, we located the I Amsterdam store at Central Station, where a staff acknowledged that this is a recurring issue with online tickets. We were then issued physical cards as replacements. While this initially appeared to resolve the situation, the difficulties continued. On the second day, one of the physical cards stopped functioning entirely.
In order to seek assistance, we were compelled to spend approximately €20 on transportation to return to the Central Station store, as no other locations were able or willing to assist us. Upon arrival, we encountered further difficulties. A senior staff member—who appeared to be in a managerial role—was not only unhelpful but also discourteous in her interactions with us. We were initially informed that no assistance could be provided because the tickets had been purchased online.
After nearly an hour of persistent discussion and considerable frustration, a junior staff member eventually assisted us. Disturbingly, this employee was reprimanded by the senior staff member for doing so and was instructed to verify the faulty card at a nearby ticket scanning machine. This unnecessary process further delayed us and ultimately caused us to miss several planned activities on our final day.
This series of events resulted in a deeply disappointing and stressful experience that overshadowed our trip. The combination of technical issues, lack of clear support channels, and particularly the poor standard of customer service—especially the rude and dismissive behavior we encountered—was unacceptable.
As visitors from Germany, we had trusted that the I amsterdam Card would enhance our experience. Regrettably, it had the opposite effect. This has not only caused immediate inconvenience but has also diminished our confidence in such services.
In light of the above, I respectfully request that appropriate action be taken to address these issues. A fair monetary compensation, ideally in the form of a refund, would be a reasonable resolution. Additionally, I strongly urge you to review staff conduct and ensure that customers are treated with professionalism and respect in all circumstances.

Very flexible card for our visit to Amsterdam. It gave us free entry to most of the attractions the we went to in a five day trip. It was great for use on the trams although it could be a little difficult at times scanning the digital pass on exit. Convenience outweighed absolute financial benefit, but younger more active people could get a better return.

I am writing this to express my deep frustration regarding the I amsterdam City Card I purchased for a 3-day trip with my friends. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what was promised.
Firstly, although the card advertised free entry to numerous museums and activities, we were unable to benefit from any of them. Every attempt to use the card for attractions resulted in issues, making it practically useless for our sightseeing plans.
Furthermore, despite using the card for public transport (buses, metros, and trains), I noticed that charges were still being deducted directly from my bank account. This is completely unacceptable as the card was supposed to cover these costs.
Overall, this card was a massive disappointment. It did not provide the value it promised, and I feel completely misled and cheated. I regret spending my money on this product and would not recommend it to anyone.
I expect a serious explanation and a resolution regarding these technical failures.
