Terrible Company with Zero Customer Service
My daughter bought a complete set for me for a gift, but I had already played it. She tried to exchange it, but they completely ignored her. Zero response! She spent a lot of her money on this and it sucks when companies treat their customers like this. I would recommend not giving them your money!
Disappointing customer service
I quite enjoyed these games so consider this experience disappointing. I ordered the first week of December as Christmas gifts and only got part of my order. Now it’s the later half of January and despite my many emails, still nothing. Messaged Sam and he write back that I can get a replacement game and a card game on them but when I entered the code, they were still charging me 50 bucks (even when I already paid the full amount for my original order that never came). Followed up and again and haven’t heard back since.
If I could give no stars I would
If I could give no stars I would. I ordered this as a Xmas gift on Dec 2, and was told by email on the 18 that there was a problem and they have sold out!!! What a load a bull!! Not reliable or dependable.

Loved both Hunt A Killer boxes I've finished! A word to the wise: make sure you have time to dive in when you open it. It's as gripping as a page-turner—you won't want to stop until it's solved!
SO MUCH READING
95% of the information read was not used! The reason it says 2 hours is because 1 hour is just reading (useless information). Most of the tools were not really used. Compared to other similar games, this was lacking puzzle solving.
Down hill
Used to love this company and had so much fun solving the series with my husband. Unfortunately, since the company sold their customer service is terrible. They flat out don’t respond. They also stopped supporting the boxes they sold and we spend quite a bit of money of a series that we were unable to complete even the first episode because ethe associated website was not working.
Escape rooms are not mysteries
We loved our first couple of HAK mysteries! Then, it became nothing but code breaking, and just ridiculous code breaking. Seemed like every clue was written in some silly code. I want to solve mysteries and not just do cryptography. Seems to me the creators just don't want to put the effort into actual interesting mysteries and just turned it into escape rooms. So sad and so disappointing.
From Great to Awful
Like other reviewers, I was subscribed to HAK for quite some time (the double season annual membership for at least 2-3 years). I also had purchased almost every individual game. In my estimation, I spent upwards of $1500 over the years, and considered myself a loyal customer.
All was great until the last six months of my annual subscription when I received a box for a story I had already completed (Royal Street). I tried pausing my subscription and emailed customer service asking them to fully pause it until a new story was out, and to credit me for the box. I received a response after some time asking what season I would like instead. I reiterated that I did not want another season until a new one was out. With no response, I ended up continuing to receive duplicate boxes.
I tried reaching out several times via various methods, and the auto-reply to the email always said the company was behind and to not email again, as another email would send any of my requests to the end of the line. Towards the beginning of my membership, it was easy to get in touch with customer service via phone, but it seemed as if finding contact info beyond the overloaded customer service email was impossible. I sent a final email in September 2023 requesting a $150 partial refund for the latter six months of my membership - something that, as an attorney, I know I am entitled to - and never received a response.
What was once a great business seems to have forgotten about the customer service that built their reputation in the first place. It is disappointing to be left with such a negative view of a company I once really believed in.
Change in Ownership - VERY BAD Customer Service!!!
We have enjoyed the Hunt A Killer subscription service for 3 years (6 6-month subscription box sets). We initially purchased it as a gift for our daughter, who is now at college. As a result, for the last year, we saved each monthly box until we'd received all 6 boxes, which coincided with when our daughter was home from school. We did this with the boxes that were sent from July through December of 2023. Imagine our surprise and disappointment when we opened Box 1 and it was the exact same story as the one we just completed!!! I emailed customer service and received responses that apologized, but they couldn't refund the last subscription because of the length of time that passed - and then I received an email explaining that they were under new ownership. So essentially, customer service took a major back seat during this transition - which would explain why a duplicate subscription was even sent in the first place. We thoroughly enjoyed these games over the 2 1/2 years we played them, but the duplicate shipment and lack of customer service has left a very bad taste in our mouth and we will never purchase anything from this company again, nor will we recommend it to anyone.
Ruined Trust in the Company
I have been playing this game for years and loved it. Lately, not so much. I've been charged and no box has been received, I sent messages that went week+ with no answer, and when I got an answer, some weird run around. Finally, after months of this, got them to say they are doing away with their subscription plan and going with the single box games. So between their lack of communication, missing 2 boxes, and the issues I have seen from others, this company has lost my trust.
Order never arrived.
I ordered an Agatha Christie themed box for my mothers birthday. Agatha Christie is her favorite author. I was so excited.
It was set to arrive the week of her birthday. I paid well over a hundred dollars for the deluxe edition and fast shipping. Two weeks after her birthday and it’s still not shipped. No word from them.
When I finally get word they say they have a supply issue and offer an alternative game. I decline choosing to wait for the game I ordered to be available because the whole point of getting it was because she loves Agatha Christie. I’m not sure why the supply issue wasn’t made known to us sooner?
Three more weeks go by and my mom gets a box in the mail from Hunt a Killer. She calls me and opens it. It’s not the game I ordered. She’s confused about why I bought her a game about dive bars.
I emailed the company and have yet to get a reply.
Now I’m well over a month past when the game I ordered is supposed to arrive. No end in sight. Don’t know if I’ll ever get my game. And even if I do it’s a crappy birthday gift if it arrives MONTHS late.
The hunt a killer app no longer exists…
The hunt a killer app no longer exists on any platform. The websites that host this game have been compromised and are full of malware. Accessing the sites are no longer safe at all. You will not be able to finish the game with what you have in the box. All the online clues and game play is inaccessible, so do not buy any of the hunt a killer boxes!!! You will NOT ve able to complete any of the games!!!
I used to be a huge fan of this…
I used to be a huge fan of this company. I have bought everything, and we’ve likely spent several thousand dollars on these games at this point. So I wasn’t worried when my husband bought me more as a gift. But then I go to play and it’s missing multiple pieces. I could just “play” and get cheats for the missing pieces but that feels like a giant waste of time and money.
I don’t think they’re even in business anymore. It sounds like they haven’t bothered to reply to customers for nearly a year. It hasn’t stopped the endless marketing and I’m sure they’ll take my money if I go to buy something but if you can’t answer emails in a reasonable timeframe AND you have quality control issues, it’s just a scam, in my opinion.
Non-existant customer service : product unusable
My brother-in-law gave me the "Hunt a Killer : curtain call" full box set for Christmas 2021. I did the first episode, which was super fun.
And then, when my brother-in-law came to France (he lives in the United States) in summer 2022, I am very eager to share the experience with him and we open up episode 2 !
Except... It was a second copy of episode 1.
My broter-in-law tries to reach a couple of time customer service, with bills, pictures showing the 2 identical boxes. No answers.
I decide to give it a last shot and do it again on october 4th, with a second email on october 29th.
I never received any answers, by email or by phone or any other way. So I have a full box set of a game I cannot play, which is quite expensive (130$) and knowing that his family doesn't live on a very big salary.
I think that's an awful way to treat your customers. Especially when you are the one that made a mistake by sending the wrong product.
Do not trust this company. Very sad...

I was sold a 6 month subscription for a game that retired 2 years ago...so I received the first 3 boxes but the company can't provide me with the 4th box because the supplier doesn't have it anymore...so I can't solve the 6 part game..which means the mystery is useless to me. The website for hints and clues doesn't exist anymore either they sold me a 6 month subscription fully aware that they couldn't fulfill their commitment. I'm appalled they did this.
Customer service is nonexistent
I purchased a gift card-granted it got lost in our house, so it was a long time ago. But, when I tried to redeem it on the website, it wouldn't work, so I emailed asking if there was anything I could do, or if it wasn't valid any longer. That was on September 13th, and the only response I've gotten was an automated message saying they're 'a few days behind'. It's October 11th. I would have completely understood if they said it had been too long and the care was no longer redeemable, but the complete refusal to provide customer service is an interesting choice.
NO Customer service response
I ordered a box set while on sale. it never arrived and I contacted customer service on August 27th and have still not received any word from them. I emailed on a separate email since they said I would be moved down the queue if I wrote in again from the same email, and still nothing. I understand being behind on responding but over three weeks is horrible and unacceptable. I am either going to get a refund or write as many bad reviews as I can until they contact me. I have enjoyed games in the past and like the concept but if you can't manage customer service you shouldn't be in business.
Its just not fun
Its just not fun - I would like to see real detectives solve it - doubt they could. Luckily they give the clues and answers - if not I would of got a refund. I took 2 seasons to get the deal - and sad I did - hated it from the first box and had 11 more to do. Did 7 boxes - and quit - gave them away - am sure are in the garbage.
BUYER BEWARE
I signed up for one 6-month mystery subscription with a friend. We enjoyed the Ren Faire theme and had fun writing down the clues and solving the mysteries--but some of the logic is skewed and you have to make some leaps to get to the "right" answer. The reason I'm giving it 1 star is because you seem to get LOCKED into a membership once you sign up once. I've tried canceling multiple times once our 6-box mystery was done and it hasn't gone through--so I've been charged $195 that I cannot get refunded. The customer service email is a joke, I've been waiting on a reply for nearly two months with no response, and there is no other way to contact them. I have no idea how I'll ever cancel my account and apparently they're content to just charge me $200 every 6 months until I die, and send me boxes I don't want. 0/10, DON'T FALL FOR THIS SCAM!!!
Two full season box sets in a row have…
Two full season box sets in a row have had issues. One had a completely wrong box and the other had an internet interface that glitched and spoiled a future box's results. We've contacted support both times, the first being over two weeks ago, and they are unfortunately inundated with emails right now or short-staffed and haven't gotten back to us. Our first couple of interactions with the company and needing their customer service was great, but lately it has been very disappointing and frustrating. My partner and I are long distance and like to play a season when we get to be together, having to go through two of our saved up box sets in short succession with both being disappointing incidents was disheartening and really just a bummer on this tradition we've started.
