Always reliable

After The VPS stopped working i…

After The VPS stopped working i formally requested to cancel the subscription.

Then, when ignored and emails regarding next upcoming payment were sent to me, I responded to say that i had already requested to cancel.

They outright ignored me and continued to take payment for a service which repeatedly fails.

In short, we have not ignored you. You have not followed clear cancellation instructions and have replied to two "noreply" emails. I'll provide more detail below.

On 15th May, you asked a question about your service, which we answered on 16th May, providing simple instructions to cancel if you still wished to do so. It was not clear if you still wanted the service cancelled.

Within our terms of service, which you agreed to upon purchase, it states that in the event of a cancellation, you must submit your request through our portal (see Payment & Renewal section). You did not follow these instructions, as the last time you logged into our portal was on 13th May, three days before your query was answered.

Due to the lack of a submitted cancellation, your service has continued to renew. On 6th and 11th June, you replied to our automated invoicing emails, which clearly state:

"Friendly Notice: Replies to this automated email are not monitored. Please login to our portal using username XXXX to contact us: https://portal.hostworld.uk/"

It appears you did not read the information provided, contributing to your own dissatisfaction.

I trust this clarifies the matter for anyone reading this 1-star review, as it omits important context.

Too many failures; backups not as promised

They had two hard drive failures within two weeks which resulted in 10 days of data lost. They did not inform me about it, and when asked, they were not capable of recovering the data, although at least in one case there should have been a more recent backup.

We’d like to clarify a few points regarding your review. All of our VPS services come with complimentary weekly backups. For customers requiring more frequent snapshots, we offer an upgrade option to daily backups.
In this particular instance, we experienced a storage failure on one of our VPS nodes on 5th May, but not two separate hard drive failures as mentioned. This incident was unavoidable, and we promptly updated our status page as per our standard procedure. Your VPS was restored from the most recent backup available.
When you contacted us on Sunday, 5th May, we prioritized your case, and your VPS was back online within 37 minutes from the last backup we generated. Subsequent to this you requested that we restore data that you allege was present on your VPS after the 13th May, however after careful inspection of the data we can find no record that this is the case, thus we cannot recover or reinstate data that was not present at the time a backup was generated.
Our backup services are provided as a complimentary feature, and we always encourage customers to maintain local backups in line with industry best practices. This policy is clearly outlined in our terms of service too to avoid any confusion.
We also attempted to recover data directly from the failed disks, an effort beyond our service commitments, but this was not successful. For the inconvenience caused, we have already credited your account with a one-month service fee as a gesture of goodwill.
We understand the frustration this has caused and apologise for any inconvenience.

After purchasing early, we encountered several unexpected issues. However, we believe that UK hosting (Hostworld UK) has resolved and ensured that no further unexpected issues arise. In terms of payment and support, it is excellent and the best hosting I have ever purchased.

System was slow.

very good, professional service, quick restoration via backup

very good, reliable company, having used them for more than 3 years now - incredibly quick with support, for example I have a VPS with them, but - in error - upgraded the ubuntu server to a newer version which meant that the programs I was using stopped working intermittently. A quick message to support and within less than one hour (!) on a Sunday the server was restored by their support, based on one of the previous 3 or 4 free weekly backups and is now running as before!
highly recommended professional service!
