If I could give them no stars I would. I’ve literally been waiting to start this job so I can finishing paying my first half of school so I can actually start. But thank to HireRight taking so long to complete my background now I’m literally in a position where I probably can’t even start. Careless about other people times and lively hood. Like we don’t have bills to pay and things to get done. Horrible service and I highly dislike the the fact I even had to go through them. Would’ve been faster if I just did it myself.

The background check process has been very frustrating and has unnecessarily consumed a lot of my time. Despite having uploaded all required documents, I was repeatedly asked to submit additional files (many times). For example, even after providing my contract, I was still requested to upload another document to verify information that was already clearly stated in the contract. Similarly, although my previous managers have already confirmed my employment (in the reference interview with the employer), I was still asked to provide contact details of other individuals to confirm again.
Overall, the process feels inefficient and overly redundant, which creates unnecessary delays and frustration for candidates like me.

If I could give HireRight -5 stars, I would. My potential employer unfortunately chose HireRight to verify my employment history, and the entire process has been a nightmare. I was repeatedly asked to upload the same documents over and over again, despite already providing everything requested. There is no continuity and no accountability in their process.
It's as if their system or staff simply don’t pay attention. The back-and-forth was a complete waste of time, created unnecessary stress, and delayed the hiring process without justification. I sincerely hope more companies realize how inefficient and poorly run this service is and choose alternative providers who are actually competent and respectful of candidates' time.
Avoid HireRight if you value your time and sanity.

They took an entire month to complete the background check. The estimated completion dates kept shifting, and the progress dashboard was quite vague—it didn't provide clear updates on completed tasks, only indicating that the form had been submitted.

Reply from HireRight
Absolutely disrespectful about my time. Did not ask for missing documents once but four times (every time different docs). Did not read the provided contracts (confused start time and contract sign date). Rejected a contract even though it came from Docusign.

Never see like them who try to reach all of my old employers (3 different companies that doesn't necessarily since they already get approved on my current jobs) and also their partnership to drugs screening clinics are totally low ratings and full of bad reviews just like them.
Horrible organization

UPDATE: The 11th has now come and gone with no resolution. It has now been over 4 weeks since i filled everything out. I dont even know if its worth reaching out again because theyll just provide another bogus ETA.
Been waiting on a pre-employment background check for what is now going on 4 weeks.
Its 89% complete, the only exception being a CA county (which I've never lived or worked in.) Original ETA was 06/19. Then was told 06/25. Then 07/07. Now 07/11.
Calling and emailing is no help. They just give you an arbitrary future date to shut you up. Just string you along without regard for the stress and hardship that delays cause. There's no follow up, no action. How do I even know its actually being worked on and not just sitting in a pile of paperwork somewhere? i dont. And neither do they.

The background verification that I just underwent with HireRight was so bad that I had to share about it. Be warned, the process is so arduous. For me, this involved the most number of back-and-forth messages that I have ever encountered in any verification process. We started this well before my job was due to begin, and here we are weeks later, still tying up loose ends with my job's start date pushed back as a result. A serious pain.

If i could give this company a 0 i would. They’ve held up my background check for over three weeks, keep changing the approval date. They’ve claimed they can’t verify with the courthouse, the courthouse told me no one has contacted them. I have photo evidence of multiple lies saying they expedited my case and then back pedaled saying it couldn’t be expedited. I was told my courthouse had no problems, now they’ve claimed all along the courthouse is a problem and on a list. Lower level customer service told me they outsource to other venders, manager told me that was a lie and hung up on me. I’m out easily 3 thousand dollars and still unable to start with my new employer. Hireright still won’t do the bare minimum to help. Avoid this company at all costs and don’t utilize their services.

awful software, why every time do you ask for everything can't you find a way to store information about people?

HireRight is an absolute joke for a company. They took way too long to complete my background check. Despite submitting the required documents they were unable to verify past employment multiple times. I Literally gave them the addresses for the places I looked at and they looked up the wrong place. Which proves they did not look at the information I sent them. They did nothing but give me the run-around. I literally gave them the number for my past hiring managers and despite this, they never attempted to call. I know they didn't because I contacted those managers myself. They are the worst for checking for past employment especially when it comes to small businesses. These people literally have no idea and are incapable of doing their jobs. My customer experience with one of their employees was awful. He started getting aggressive and angry after I asked him some questions in regard to the status of my background check. I asked him questions to ensure that everything was submitted correctly and they had everything they needed, so the process would be moved along. Instead of being helpful, he started blaming me for everything that went wrong. I'll admit that I submitted some things incorrectly but the way he handled it was extremely unprofessional. This was by far the worst customer service interaction I've ever had. Avoid this awful company at all costs.

If I could give them negative stars I would. I was going through the background check process with them and they claimed they couldn’t verify 1 of my 2 degrees. I knew they were being dishonest because I called the school. They school confirmed that no one reached out to do a verification and even if they went through clearing house they would see my bachelors and masters degree. I called HireRight after being requested to upload proof, which I did! They still mark my degree as unverifiable and even some other positions where I produced proof. They’re horrible and system is very flawed.

Total trash.
Their systems don’t work properly, they are not showing what they have on you, unfaithful service.
Yet another service “to make things better” but really cause stress, errors and add zero value

Reply from HireRight
I had to use them for a recent background check on the employee side and provided them a library's worth of verification. They rejected everything, citing tiny details missing that they never requested.
Why avoid them:
Sneakily outsourcing to save costs: Notice how they never give you last names when communicating. You can tell by their words and actions that they have zero clue what they are doing. They are just robotically following a playbook, trained to give textbook, zero-context answers - probably while getting paid less than $5/hr.
Profit-driven? It feels like they have malicious intent with how long they make the process. It's like purposely delaying verification to make more money off the employer.
Do. not. use.

The absolute worst company to exist any company that uses them to hire should be ashamed

This company really takes its time to go through the process. I have been at 93% complete for a week now. They asked me for a better contact at a company they couldn't get in touch with so I provided the name, number, and email of someone to contact who was ready to answer. They still have not contacted the company. I also provided my W2's from that company. I am not sure if they get paid by day, but it sure seems they want you to not get hired.

Terrible customer service. They won't let you speak to tech support and won't transfer you to a supervisor. They won't help you fix issues. They just make excuses and send tickets in that don't get worked. They are causing the loss of a great opportunity and hopefully someone is able to sue them over it one day. 🤞🏻 Will be calling home office and headquarters about this experience. I even found some of the top people in the company on LinkedIn to try and ask for their help.
I'm not giving you any information. If you aren't able to resolve the issue the first 10 times it's been discussed then how will it be resolved now? It won't.

This is a very annoying and abusing service. Companies should stop using it. They don't share with you the data they get about you, force you to give a lot of personal information, crate and account, and many things you don't want to do and feel not comfortable doing,
Update after response:
They also request more info through Trustpilot to "verify" my opinion. I am not sharing more personal data with you, also scared that this could affect the report you will share with my employer. I do not need any assistance and my experience is clear enough, you order people to give all kind of personal data otherwise they will not get a job.

This is a horrible service. Companies should stop using their garbage service. Its a 1 start service as you can see! My application have been pending for 3 weeks now and their live chat and email support keep transferring me between agents and departments every time I contact them. No one give you a clear response and you are just left on your own. HIRING MANAGERS, PLEASE STOP USING THIS SERVICE

This whole process has been an absolute nightmare. My W-2s kept getting kicked back and I had to resend the documentation 3x before someone competent enough finally realized it was viable documents. Every time I would email or try to chat, they just kept saying it was unacceptable, but no one would tell me why. I also sent an official copy of my college transcript, for that to also be denied with no specification on why. I don't understand how an official transcript is not acceptable, but whatever. I hope I never have to run into this company again.
