More Effective Than Therapy

Individual Coaching was more effective to me than therapy has been. My coach was able to understand my wanting to improve my mental health to be a better version of myself and not just to avoid a meltdown. After coaching, I relate to my own emotions more intimately than before and feel less overwhelmed by emotional turmoil.

My coach cared deeply about my progress and wellbeing and couldn't have represented HG any better.

Do not sign up.

Do not sign up. Coaches are amazing, coaching changed my life for the better, but the company is very hypocritical. They burn out their coaches, underpay them, treat them without respect and then fire them on short notice, its ridiculous that they claim to be promoting mental health. Find a private coach, there should be enough former experienced HG coaches out there now that so many have been let go in favour of cheaper new hires.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Healthy Gamer aims to support both clients and coaches in a way that respects everyone’s needs.

Coaches set their own hours, giving them the flexibility to balance their work and life. We have over 150 individuals across the globe currently contracted to provide coaching services, and many more eager to join. Since HG started, less than a dozen coach contracts have ever been non-renewed.

Because coaches are contractors and have the freedom to run sessions in their own unique style, it can be difficult to keep the high level of quality clients deserve across the service. This is why we strive to offer continual increases in pay with skill level. We want to help coaches deliver the best service possible for clients that trust HG with their personal growth.

We value and appreciate the feedback, and will continue to invest in supporting our coaches and improving the client experience. Our goal is always to create opportunities for growth for everyone involved in our community—ourselves included.

Coaching changed our life (for the better)

I'm not exaggerating when I say coaching with Dimitri at Health Gamer changed my life and the life of our family. I came to coaching desperate to change our situation with my son. Nothing I was doing was working, I was making things worse actually.

Fast forward to after coaching, I've never been more excited about my son's future than now. He's back in school, focused on his health, and actually talks about his future.

Fair warning: coaching made me realize that I was the problem. It was not about getting my son to behave the way I wanted. It was about rebuilding a relationship that I had partially destroyed through my actions/inaction. We have 100% done that now and I'm so grateful for the coaching for this.

Got everything I needed

I went into coaching because I needed educated perspective on myself and my life situation; I didn't understand myself or my problems. My coach helped me through my Alexithymia, sharing perspective but also educating and tailoring ways for me to go about understanding myself on my own. I'm leaving coaching confident that I understand where to go from here.

Life Changing experience

I worked with one of their coaches, Kayla. She's the best one around though I'm sure they're all great. HG helped give me a place to grow and learn to take care of myself. Coach Kay was incredibly caring and supportive. It's hard to put to words, but you're in good hands coming here.

My Coaching experience was great! But it didn't solve my social media addiction at all

Like many other young adults these days, I have a social media addiction. It was so bad that I would literally binge social media all day every day, despite having tons of work to do.

A few months ago, I decided to disable all my social media accounts. It was actually Dr. K's video "The Real Effects of Internet Addiction" that finally convinced me to do this. Because I had a lot of questions on his videos and was just so intrigued by his channel, I decided to try out coaching on HealthyGamer. I thought maybe this could help me understand why I have this social media addiction.

I won't lie, the counseling in itself was a great experience! Mainly because it was so nice to have someone to just talk to about all my issues, and it was nice to actually feel validated about my issues, plus I feel like I learned a lot about myself. But I must remind myself: Why did I come here again? My main reason for trying HG Coaching was to learn about my social media addiction, and do something about it.

Now I need to be honest, did HG Coaching actually help me get through my social media addiction? Honestly, not at all. Despite all the discussing we did about my issues, I may have gotten rid of Instagram but I was still using YouTube all day every day. We discussed how this could be because I'm lonely, how this could be because I'm experiencing some sort of negative emotion, but at the end even with understanding that, I still binged these apps. And honestly, it didn't really seem like any amount of coaching was going to change the fact that I am heavily addicted to social media: But then one day, after speaking to many friends and browsing Reddit, I came to a very, very obvious realization: I'm using YouTube and other social media applications because they're just designed to be incredibly addictive. Duh, of course. But what does this mean? It means literally no amount of willpower or understanding of myself is going to change the fact that this is addictive and that I, as any normal human being, would probably end up getting hooked and staying hooked to something that is designed to keep us hooked. I'm not necessarily coming back to social media every day because I'm sad, or because I'm lonely, or because I'm anxious, there is not necessarily any flaw on my end. There are some people I know who aren't even lonely or sad and they themselves are more addicted to social media than I am.
And so on that note I felt that paying hundreds of dollars for HG Coaching for something I just did a way more efficient job of solving myself was not really worth it. I solved my issue of social media addiction by just downloading some website/app blockers, blocking the social media app/websites, and getting used to no social media. I overcomplicated an issue which honestly was not that difficult to understand, and did not necessarily require me having to spend hundreds of dollars for coaching. In fact, I'd say that as far as the issue of my social media addiction is concerned, HealthyGamer's free youtube videos were actually FAR more helpful in understanding myself and this issue of social media addiction than coaching itself was.

ALL OF THAT BEING SAID, I do not mean to imply that coaching was a bad experience whatsoever. It was in fact a great experience, as I could talk to someone about my emotions, about the issues that are bothering me, etc. etc. If you are someone that is struggling with your emotions and could use someone to talk to, help advise you, or just make you feel validated, I would definitely recommend HG Coaching. But in my case of specifically dealing with social media addiction, I honestly just didn't find it super helpful. If my only goal was to come here and learn to curb my social media usage, I would have probably felt that this was sort of a waste of money.

Helpful and Supportive

HealthyGamerGG's coaching sessions have helped me with my audhd, anxiety and depression with keeping things organized and have a better thought process on how to view things positively. I used to observe things negatively which made me anxious in social interactions which happens less now so that's an improvement. Coaching sessions are quite expensive but it was well worth the price, I am also extending my sessions to receive more coaching.

The work is worth it

After the pandemic, I just became intensely aware of how emotionally restricted and burdened I was and it became my mission to free myself. I was always an independent type of person, so I did the work entirely on my own, but I eventually found myself reluctantly and skeptically willing to give to give Dr. K's coaching program a shot.

I was so surprised at how helpful it was. There are things that just cannot be done alone. Healing is not a single player game. I had never realized just how helpful it was to talk about and unpack emotions and feelings out loud with another safe person there to receive it who could patiently and kindly help you see yourself and your problems from a new angle.

If you're like me, I just want you to know that other people can help you.

This is an excellent service with excellent individuals who can create wonderful spaces for growth. There is no single solution for everyone and each individual person will need a different kind of help.

I had a wonderful experience here because I have a growth mindset. If you're going to join this service then you need to accept that a better you can exist, and that it will be a lot of work to figure out how to find that person.

I feel better

It's just a great coaching service that helped me with my problems as much as it could. The problems I was facing in life turned out to be a bit too much for the duration of the program, but I still got a lot out of it and feel like I'm better off than I was 8 months ago. The coach I got was great, helpful and knowledgeable, and I'm happy I got his help. I'm also sad to see him let go and I'm afraid the service might lose on quality from losing a good coach. The customer support was very easy to work with and the online platform was nice. All in all I would recommend it to a friend having the same problems that I had, like tech addiction and the like. A+. The service is open to offering people different coaches if they don't like their current ones so I'm not sure why the people who wrote the negative reviews didn't use that option. Skill issue.

Coach selection can be hit or miss

Coach seemed, bored, disinterested, and icy—at times I felt like my perspective irritated him, and that he wasn't happy to be in the session with me. He even reacted with 😎 when I told him I was quitting the program lol.

I really wanted to believe in this service, because Dr. K's videos and perspective are so candid and high-quality. But know that that charisma and magnetism that brought you to this site doesn't translate to the coach you'll be assigned, who's not as educated or motivated, and is accountable to an organizational structure and not his or her own heart.

One big plus is customer service is great and cancellation is completely painless.

Career coaching helped me find my path

Career coaching helped me find my path. When I started, I felt directionless and hopeless. Having a 50-minute block of time each week devoted to nothing but talking through my career problems helped me focus on finding solutions rather than avoiding my problems. My coach was trusting and supportive of my exploration, which in turn helped me to trust myself. I eventually found a new path, and I am excited and hopeful for the future.

Be Vulnerable and Do The Work

The program changed my life. After 15+ months I can say that I'm stronger than I have been at any other point in my life. My coach guided me through a challenging period. I listened and responded thoughtfully. The sessions resulted in homework, and I would do the work.

You have to be vulnerable and do the work. A coach can't fix things for you, but they can open doors you'd rather keep locked. Pushing yourself past this friction will help you grow.

I had a wonderful coach and experience. I would highly recommend this program to anyone who is feeling lost, unsupported, and teetering on losing important relationships.

In the end, I saved my marriage, saved my business, and found a path to a better version of myself.

Overall great experience 5/5

While there were human factors that can't be accounted for, such as people leaving the program part way through (myself included after 15 sessions, so can't be a hypocrite), I found it overall a great experience. I gave 5 stars despite the above human factor because that's not on HG or the coaching team, it's just life and what's best for those folks. It did mess with the flow a bit and getting to know people, then getting to know new people - but the coach I had was great. They were more "hands on" then it seems some other coaches are and from reading some of the 1 and 2 star reviews, seems like that is more the style they could benefit from.
The other people attending group coaching were all amazing and I was really glad to have met them. I didn't really have any specific expectations for what it was or would be, but wanted to try something new and test the waters socially from a "safe space" of it being an online meet up, which worked well for me. I honestly would commit to further rounds of coaching but currently IRL scheduling is now in the way of my current group time, and finances are not in a place to support continuation with another group in a different slot (conversion from USD to NZD when having part time income only is unfortunately rough).
All in all, a great experience I would encourage others to try with an open mind, and not try think it will or should be a certain way. It's a bunch of strangers meeting up to talk in a safe space and learn some skills, which takes time and will be a little wobbly for a while sure - but if you have a good coach you'll do great :)

Hit or miss with coaches

I’m giving it a 3 because I believe it can be better and probably is, but I did not have a good experience. My group leader just did not seem like she should’ve been a coach, not because of any lack of credentials or competence, but purely because she did not seem invested into providing coaching.
