Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 137 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people found the customer service to be exceptionally poor, with representatives often unhelpful, uninformed, and difficult to reach, leading to long resolution times for issues. Customers also reported significant problems with the website and user experience, particularly concerning login difficulties, passkey issues, and general inaccessibility. The payment process was frequently criticized, with users experiencing declined cards despite sufficient balances, fraudulent charge issues, and delays in fund transfers or reimbursements. Reviewers also noted that the service became problematic after a merger with another provider, leading to a decline in quality and increased frustration. Additionally, some customers expressed concerns about the company's practices regarding fund transfers and account closures, noting that these processes were difficult. However, a few other people also felt that some issues stemmed from users not fully understanding how their accounts worked or waiting too long to address problems.

My company uses HealthEquity to run our…

My company uses HealthEquity to run our HSA. It is the most frustrating company I've ever dealt with for HSA services. My wife has a different company and things sail through all the time. I will submit the same type of documentation to this company and they do everything they can to require additional documentation and make it so difficult to get your money that you don't even wanna do it. I work a full-time job and have a family and I can't take five hours every time I want to submit something. It kind of negates the whole purpose of the tax break. It's like they're looking for every little excuse to not approve your expense. I'm in the middle of one right now with them. They tell me "Your provider needs to give this and give that to us so that we can OK this expense." Heads up, healthcare providers went to school to actually provide healthcare and not provide ridiculous additional documentation so that someone can get 50 bucks back. Someone needs to investigate these guys.

Customer disservice

On the third call to customer service, I was told my issue could have been solved during the first call. But, after following the instructions from the first rep, things are now not able to be readily completed due to a mystery pending charge for a few cents. All I am trying to do is close out my account after depleting it down to a few cents. The first rep told me that there would be a $25 charge to close my account with any money left in it. Today I was told that this is not true. Apparently the customer service reps make up their own rules to suit their desired level of activity for the day. 10 days and 3 calls and still not done. I am pretty happy that this will be the last interaction with this company.

Complete thieves

Had an employer who used them. I put in some additional money. They charge me a admin fee and paper statement fee. Tried to close he account, but guess what. There is a closing account fee that is more than what I have left from them stealing my money every month. This should be illegal. Do not opt in for representation from these thieves. You are better to put your money in a jar in the backyard. Equity? Sounds like wealth redistribution. And no they did not pay ANY INTEREST on my money before they stole it ALL.

A downward slide in health, equity and quality.

My previous HSA was purchased by HealthEquity and since then, my experience has greatly gone downhill. From them sending my cards to an address from 5 years ago (when my previous HSA was sending me letters to my correct address and new card literally 2 months prior). To currently making it a real pain to get reimbursement, I had made dental appointment months in advance, so I couldn't expect it to be during the black-out period, but I did get to shift it once...before the card was lost, and I couldn't even use it. I have attempted to link my bank account using PLAID (despite their AI help bot telling me there are ways to add my account/routing, those options are inaccurate.) But unfortunately, Plaid says it works, and Healthequity says it does not. So I'm stuck with no linkage, and their automated health system letting me know that I am free to use the check method which they CHARGE extra for despite their own systems not working.

Googling around, you'll see this pattern repeats with most of their business, and it really seems like this is the business that should be getting bought as spare parts and not buying actual decent competition.

DO NOT DEAL WITH HEALTH EQUITY

DO NOT DEAL WITH HEALTH EQUITY! They use your money for their profit by nickel and diming you constantly. I have been trying to close my account for 3 weeks. I have sent ALL of the requested documentation, yet, they are still not closing it. During this process however, THEY ARE STILL TAKING MONEY OUT! I call them several times a week, with absolutely NO answers or results.
HORRIBLE COMPANY

This company is horrible, avoid at all costs!

This company is horrible. Avoid at all costs. If I could I'd rate a MINUS 5 STARS! They make everything so complicated. Plan to spend hours waiting on their help line, and then get hung up on.

Their website is equally horrible. Its set up to lock you out. I had to put in a secrete password in event of a lock out. It asked for first car and model. Which I later found that the "code" was just the model. After 2 calls and 48 minutes of hold. Same way trying to link up to a bank account and they want you to trust them with your bank information?

They look for any way to hit you with monthly and annual fees and slowly drain your account.

They stall on sending payments. One took me 3 different calls to accounting department and they kept saying "its in process" or "we can't identify you"!

I'm now retired and just trying to get the funds with them used up. I no longer run a company but if I did this is the last HSA organization I'd consider. I'd also fire any insurance or financial broker who recommended them. They are rip off artists. I trust nothing they say or represent!

HealthEquity forces you to use Plaid to…

HealthEquity forces you to use Plaid to enter your bank account information. Plaid requires your banks user name and password so in essence, Plaid has access to ALL the accounts at the bank you are using. A ACH transfer only requires the routing# and account# for the account you want to use, in no form should a 3rd party app such as Plaid have access to more accounts than the one used for health savings transactions.

Don't use Health Equity to manage your HSA…

Health Equity manages our personal HSA accounts. They have been charging my wife's account almost $25 in monthly fees, while mine have been around $8, still to much. Everything is basically the same between the two accounts, mine actually has a larger investment balance. After 4 calls and a total of over 3 hours on the phone, it still is unresolved. Bottom line, I would not recommend using this company for your HSA funds. I am moving mine to Fidelity, if self invested, they do not charge any fees.

For Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

For Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), they hold your money hostage. I tried requesting an FSA debit card for 3 months and never receive it. No resolution, keep saying they recognize system issue ask to keep waiting. No formal way to complaint to company or care to resolute it. This is an absolutely terrible company to deal with. I wish my employer would find a different third-party administrator.

Worst HSA/FSA Provider. Thieves.

Awful company. For HSAs, they hold your money hostage, bill you for every partial transfer and charge you $25 to close your account. For FSAs, they will deny all your claims and impose very limited expense categories and date ranges for accepting claims. Do not put money in their FSA. They stole over $1000 from mine.

Absolutely frustrating

Absolutely frustrating and by looking at all the reviews and their rating of 1.3 I can now understand. I tried using my debit card and apparently the PIN was wrong, I tried login on the web and my password was wrong, I tried resetting my password, several times, and was not able kept getting an error message, I called their “ CUSTOMER SERVICE “ and that had to be the most frustrating call of my life and nothing got resolved, For the ones that your company picked this terrible provider there is nothing we can do but if you as an individual are looking for an HAS or any other type of account RUN away from this company

I have now been retired a long time and…

I have now been retired a long time and have pulled my money out of the account and paid taxes on that amount. I called and asked that my account be completely closed as I no longer used it and have no money in it. I have been assured that it is closed. However, I called yesterday for paperwork to send in for taxes. I was told that my account is still open and accruing administrative fees although I have asked for it to be closed and have no money in it. I was told I would have to go on line and close it myself....however I cannot get back on my online account because my account is blocked. I have called numerous times and been given the option to reopen it with a new password. However many times I try to open it... I am still blocked from opening it in order to close it.

Don't do it

Don't do it! I wish I never participated in this company! There is always an issue trying to get reimbursed for medical expenses. Oh, they sell it really well, but they don't want to give you YOUR MONEY! They say the card can be used at checkout - FALSE! They make it so difficult that you don't have time to jump through all of the hoops they require while standing in the checkout line just to pay for a a prescription. You cannot reasonably use it like a debit card, as they tell you. It requires a new pin every time at checkout that you have to call to get each time. We all know all the automated hoops and wait times when trying to call companies. Unless you don't mind holding up the other customers waiting in line behind you while you do this...it's not practical. Reimbursement through the website is better but I have issues most of the time, that is IF the website is working correctly. Half of the time I end up on the phone jumping through hoops trying to correct the issue and to be reimbursed...going back and forth between the HE website, the HE app, the Sharp website and Follow My Health website for info that Health Equity requires.

If there were 0 stars, they would merit it!

Zero ways to contact them (chat and messaging do not work, phone call got interrupted suddenly and no call back). No transparency when submitting claims, unclear instructions and procedures. Eligibility list incomplete, Site not easy to navigate. So many drawbacks, if there was a way to rate with 0 stars, they would warrant that!
