Dispute Resolution

From going through the onboarding process to speaking to the team about the issues I was facing, everything was dealt with in a very professional manner, and there was complete transparency with hours used, and even guidance on options ahead of me, which, as a small business, was very useful. Everything was done very quickly too, which at the time was a great relief.

A legal partner that any business must have

We started working with Harper James during a challenging client dispute involving significant scope creep, where we had little hope of recovering payment. Thanks to their expert guidance, we successfully secured the full amount owed. Their support extended beyond legal advice, they offered valuable commercial insights that made a real difference.

Since then, we’ve worked with multiple solicitors across different departments: from dispute resolution to drafting new client contracts, negotiating a commercial lease, and setting up a new company with clear guidance on its Articles of Association. Every solicitor we’ve dealt with has been knowledgeable, approachable, and highly professional.

Their Enable plan not only helps us save significantly but also gives us peace of mind knowing that all legal aspects of our business are covered. We’re genuinely pleased with the service and can’t recommend Harper James highly enough.

Great firm for preseed and seed startups

One-stop shop for everything legal. Their client service will assign the right lawyer based on your need with only one email. Their prices are very affordable and their subscription model gives you more visibility over cashflow. The lawyers are usually quite practical and to the point. Been a client for 5 years!

Perfect for a new business

I was setting up a new business, and wanted the support of a legal team in case there were areas I needed to use them for as the time went on in year one, so signing up for the Enabel plan was perfect.

It gave me peace of mind that I could call on legal help if required and that by paying a monthly fee I already had some credit for any work that I needed backed up with the knowledge that I would get a lawyer at a great rate for all other work.

It worked out that I needed to use their support on a few occasions. Everyone was extremely helpful, professional, and explained things in a way that I could understand. The turnaround time for work was also really good.
I can't recommend them enough.

Poor work

We’ve been a loyal client of Harper James since 2020, but the decline in service and quality has been staggering and unacceptable.

The employment contract work they delivered was full of basic spelling and grammar errors, inconsistent language (e.g. switching between “you” and “the employee”), and was completely disjointed. There was no consideration of how our employees would view the contract changes and advice was unclear. The quality was so poor we had to scrap it entirely and rewrite the contracts ourselves. We made it very clear this work was unusable and that we had lost confidence in their ability to deliver. Their insistence on billing for this unacceptable output shows an alarming lack of accountability or concern for client care. They insist had we paid them even more to finalise contracts that they would've done a good job, but the drafts were so poor there was no way we could trust them to do further work! I have never seen such a lack of concern for clients from any type of client services business.

Whilst this was breaking point for us, it was not the first issue. We spent thousands with Harper James for ongoing advice on a sensitive employee issue. Over several weeks, the advice we received was consistently vague, grey, and confusing, so much so that our team couldn’t act on it. In contrast, we found a clear, simple resolution within five minutes of speaking to our own insurance provider. Frankly, we’ve had better results using ChatGPT than Harper James.

They are slow to respond, taking weeks to reply to emails and on occassion not having resource available for us despite us being on an annual contract with a monthly subscription fee. We've flagged slow communication, poor value, and a general lack of care, and it’s clear those concerns fall on deaf ears.

Update: Adam from the team kindly called me to discuss and resolution after my concerns. We reached an amicable agreement and I felt he had a clearer understanding of our complaints. I've amended the review to 2-stars to reflect this.
