Only giving one star because I have to! I am so disgruntled with the dishonest email promotions of free shipping with discount codes that never work. Since this is an order I usually make once a year... See more

Horrible company
Ordered 4 types of potatoes in December. Come to find out the won't even ship them until end of March early April because of my zone. Which is crazy because I have been growing and harvesting potatoes for 5 months now here in South MS. Anyhow, they ended up canceling and refunding one of my items without an explanation. And then kept pushing back the rest of my order every time is was time to ship. It is now saying June for my shipping so I just canceled my order. I will go elsewhere especially after seeing these reviews.
Great place to order DEAD plants... if you get them at all
I placed an order with Gurney's for the first time this year. They've split my order into 2 shipments. The first arrived after being send FedEx Smartpost - the cheapest and slowest method available. It took 2 weeks to get to me. Of the 2 items I received in the first shipment, one was dead, and the other unhealthy. There weren't any species specific tags or instructions with the plants. While they promised to replace the dead plant, they again sent it FedEx Smartpost. The live plant has been in transit for over a week. I don't have high hopes for it.
Meanwhile, the second part of my order "shipped." Again, they sent it FedEx Smartpost. It was shipped to Aurora, Co, which I swear must have alien activity for all the packages they lose there. It was supposed to arrive today, but now shows "pending" as a delivery status. Again, no high hopes here for a live plant delivery.
One thing I learned when in management is that quality hires quality. Gurney's has hired the bottom rung delivery service to ship its plants. It tells me much about them.
If my plants do not arrive soon and in good condition, I'll be requesting a refund. But most importantly, I will be telling everyone who I think might need to know that this is NOT a company to order live plants from! As an active FB participant, primarily on gardening sites, I will be broadcasting about my experience with this company.
Such a disappointment!
I ordered an olive TREE
I ordered an olive TREE, not twig. I ordered it January and waited for 4 months as expecting to look like the pic. A small twig of a branch I got. They said they would issue a refund, did not offer to send the tree I purchased from the pics. 4 months!!!!!!!
All the plants I ordered arrived dead and horrible customer service…
All the plants I ordered arrived dead and by the time the decide to honor their guarantee, its either too late and they can no longer ship this year or they reship using the same carrier which was the cause of the original arrival of dead plants. It took 2 weeks to deliver 5 plants 500 miles of course, they ended up dead. Gurneys refuses to ship using another carrier (to save money they use FEDEX surepost) but instead uses the same carrier with the same results and as such i will never get a live plant. They also refuse to refund my money instead they prefer to continue to reship.
There is no way to escalate a problem as their customer service dept is a third party that has no clue on the business they are servicing and are useless in accomplishing even the simplest tasks.
I highly recommend you go elsewhere, anywhere else but here if your end goal is to have living plants delivered to your door step.
Trash product and pathetic customer…
Trash product and pathetic customer service. Don't expect full reimbursement from this pathetic company. They'll nickel and dime you and you'll be lucky to get 50% of your original cost reimbursed with coupons for future purchases that they then may not honor as they are doing with me as of this writing.
Most of the original orders died even after following their instructions and using their " fertilizer" and fresh new dirt.
Truly a pathetic company!
Everything died!
Bought an orange and a lemon tree. Looked good at first and then they both died. Also bought 2 rose bushes that never bloomed! I did everything I was supposed to do to no avail. Sad and frustrating!
So disappointing and leaning to a big RIP OFF
So disappointing. I received a pack which was supposed to be 10 shallots. Inside the netting was 5 shallots, and one tiny spit of a shallot. On the phone i was told they don't have anymore to send. Also, they cant give me credit either. i asked then to return, they said they would have supervisor call me. That 2 days ago. I want them to see what they pack out and send, because its still sealed, and you would assume that they would want to know also. Also, NO Credit either. I took picture as proof, and waiting for call back before I contact the Better Business Bureau.
Always My Go To For Seeds
Gurneys has always provided me with excellent seeds for over 10 years. I love that they let customers review their seeds, which is very helpful. Customer service has always been cordial. The only thing I question is their shipping costs. Their seeds weigh so little and are sent via usps. Items I ship to my customers weigh more and are in boxes, though my shipping charge to customers is a few dollars less.
You are the ***WORST*** company I have…
You are the ***WORST*** company I have ever ordered from. Communication was horrible, I only got two trees, Paw Paws -- they were both dead. Both Jujubes were canceled -- I think you credited me for a couple and of course, charged me all the shipping. What a scam. I will never order from you guys again. I would rather give my money to small local growers than companies like you who deceive people with special offers and never deliver anything. You suck. I guess I have to go to PayPal now and open a complaint against you.
Order number 10190111200.
Poor quality and customer service
First time Gurney's customer. Ordered 5 orders of 64547 TOMATO DEFIANT HYBRID PLTS. All were dead on arrival. Offered replacement order was too late to be planted. Customer service was rude and refused a refund on these plants. A complaint will be filed with the Better Business Bureau.
crappy company
where to begin. Placed my full order in January, was supposed to start receiving order in April. A few items showed but many were out of stock. "No idea" if they would get them in. It would be nice to know if stock was coming so I could seek alternatives elsewhere. Asked for supervisor call back 4 separate times, promised within 24 hrs. Never happened! Plants were supposedly showing up in May, some did most did not. After complaining got some sent to me, arrived dead . Sent them pictures, opened a claim, promised a response which never came. Called, complained, out of stock, asked for call back, never happened. All you get is a call center halfway around the world with broken English, while Ma and Pa Gurney count their money and watch their landscapers plant their yard with stock from home depot or lowes. Save your money, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.
Bad business practices!!
Partial shipment that didn’t show up and they will reship but when they arrive will be to late to plant so I asked for a refund and they only offered a partial refund at which point I told them where they can shove there company! Would not recommend this company to any serious gardener, a waste of time and money! Will never buy there seed again!!
Postage due on seed order
I've been a customer of Gurney's for over 40 years, my last seed order had $4.10 postage due, the mailing label was used at least twice according to the post office. Gurney's refused to reimburse the charge, saying I failed to get a receipt. Mr. Gurney would be disappointed. Update: Gurney's did refund the postage due.
This is not the Gurney's from a decade ago
This is not the Gurney's from a decade ago. They used to have great quality plants and seeds and excellent customer service. After they were bought out by some mega-corporation, they became rude, dismissive, and don't care about the quality of their stuff. I placed an order in February and they took my money right away but never shipped part of the order. They kept stringing me along claiming items were back ordered and then finally in May said the item was out of season and offered a partial refund. I will never order from them again. I recommend that if you get emails from them, mark them as spam and never buy anything from them.
Seeds not Sprouting
Seeds not Sprouting! Ships very late:
Of all the seeds that I planted in my greenhouse. Probably over 200. Only four plants came up. I ordered the seeds at the end of Feburary 2021. I did not get my some of the seeds by Middle of April. Tomato seeds usually get planted in the greenhouse by March. The worst issue is seeds did not come up. I have dealt with them for over 10 years. Prior, I had no problems, but now they lost a customer.
Horrible Service and no understanding of thier product
Absolutely silly. They promised one shipping date and missed it by a month. This meant the plants would be arriving when it was way to late to plant them. Took three phone calls to get it straightened out because thier oversees customer service people aren't really at Gurneys. They did send a partial shipment that took 21 days in tranist to arrive. Plants in a box for 21 days?? Come on people. I don't think these guys know anything about plants. I will never attempt to order here again.
False Delivery Promises & No Customer Service
Placed a large order in early February, which advertised a March delivery window. An email order confirmation reflected this delivery date. By early April, I received some seeds only- no delivery of remaining order, no email updates, and no information online to give order status. Ultimately, you will reach customer service in another country with 2 month delays in orders and 'sorry no refunds'.
Next time I will order from local companies that are available to talk about their products and explain delays, instead of hiring a foreign answering service to quote from their computer screen.
WARNING!!..this long time company is…
WARNING!!..this long time company is Bad...late items very poor quality, no replacements, waste of my time.
Order two blackberries, two dead dry sticks, no quality check, out of stock for replacements. Order 2 more from another company on time and beautiful.
The 2lb yukon potatoes was short half pound and were rotton, Gurney gave me the run around on credit, they and the potatoes are trash.
If you want to save yourself endless phone calls, do not use them.
Ordered seeds and they came but one…
Ordered seeds and they came but one…
Ordered seeds and they came but one packet hadn't been sealed correctly and most of the seeds were lost. I emailed their customer support but they never responded. was just trying them out but seems am going back to mcdavindispensary.net
late Shipment of stunted, yellowed, leafless plants
Earlier this year I ordered a dogwood and two gooseberry bushes, which were both 2” high; all three failed to leaf out and died. On 3/25 I ordered six each tomato and pepper plants with expected shipment in early May. They did not ship until 6/5 and did not arrive until 6/12. The tomatoes were 2” high and stunted, shriveled, and yellowed. The peppers were green stems with no leaves. I have photos. I would never purchase such poor quality plants from a nursery, but I am now housebound due to the coronavirus. I asked for a refund but have had no response. I am a lifetime gardener. Gurneys has probably taken every order they could and then shipped inferior plants to make a swift buck off of people desperate for plants to be shipped to them. Shame on them.
