Extremely Unprofessional Shop
I purchased a refurbished battery for my 2012 Chevy Volt after reading the many positive reviews for this company. I was told it would take a week, so I drove the car down to Salt Lake City in November of 2023 and put it in the Greentec shop there. The shop was not ready to work on my vehicle when it arrived. They had to update their computer, which took an extra day. Then, they had to overnight a part to interface with the car's computer that they did not have. Was as if they had no idea what vehicle was arriving at their shop on appointment. It took this shop 3 full days to remove the HV battery. I ended up staying in the hotel for a total of 9 days, 2 days longer than the estimate I received. I was not able to stay in the hotel for another full weekend for them to begin a 3-4 day testing process the following Monday, which would have taken me out to a full 2 weeks by the time it was completed. I told them I could charge and discharge the battery myself, and needed to take the car home due to the rising costs.
Once I got the vehicle home, I charged on 110v, and drove the car on the same road at 45 mph to discharge the battery, and charged it again, performing the test twice a day for 2 weeks. This vehicle should use 10 kwh out of the 16 kwh capacity. This battery would only use 7.8 kwh consistently, far below what it should. Additionally, this vehicle should charge for 8.5 - 9 hours on a regular 110v charger. This battery would only charge for 7 hours and 15 minutes each time.
No problems with the auto-start feature since we have had the car in our family since it was new for the last 12 years. After bringing it home from Greentec, the auto-start would disable the charger while it was still plugged in. It would also cause the engine light to come on. Once that engine light was on, I would need to plug in the car 2-4 times for it to begin charging.
On 01/28/24 I requested warranty work to be performed on the car, since none of these issues were resolved when the car was reprogrammed by Chevrolet. I was assured by Austin that they would pre-ship a battery so it would be there when the vehicle arrived. I was scheduled for an appointment on Thursday, 2-8-24 to return the vehicle to the Salt Lake Shop. I called Austin on 2-5-24 (Mon) to ensure the battery would arrive on time, to avoid any unnecessary delays as I experienced on the original service. I was assured the battery would be there in enough time.
This time, I took a shuttle bus service back home, lacking any confidence in this shop to perform the work in the time they estimated. The following morning, I received a call from Mike, who is a supervisor/manager at the Salt Lake Shop. Mike had no idea where the replacement battery was, and did not have a tracking number to check. He also denied that the auto-start error had anything to do with the battery/service visit.
Obviously very disappointed, I called Austin back at Greentec to report these issues. Austin was extremely rude and combative, attempting to blame me for picking up the vehicle "early" on the original visit, despite me giving them an additional 2 days when they were not ready to work on the vehicle on its arrival. The conversation was extremely hostile. I requested to speak to Austin's supervisor to report my extreme dissatisfaction. Austin refused to give me his supervisor's name, and hung up on me. This is what getting warranty work done is like should you have an issue.
I called my salesperson, Heidi, who had great service when I made my purchase. She referred me to Travis, who is the Vice President of Greentec. Travis was easy to speak with, and assured me that this is not the way they want their customer's treated. He also informed me he would be pulling the hostile phone call to listen to what had happened. Travis informed me that the battery was ordered on 2-7-24, the day before my appointment. The batteries come from Kansas. It is obvious it would not be there in time, and what Austin had told me on 2-5-24 was a bunch of false information. I was told at that point that the battery was on the way and would be there on time. That was not true.
After waiting a full week, on 2-15-24 I called Mike at the Salt Lake shop since I had received no updates since 2-9-24 on the progress. Mike informed me that they had pulled the original battery out of the vehicle, and the new battery would be starting installation that evening. The car has been at that shop for an entire week, and all they have done is remove the old battery. It took them 3 days the first time. It took a full 7 days this time. Unacceptable.
Do not even think about putting your vehicle into the Salt Lake shop. There will be constant delays, and if you call in to complain to the company, you will be treated terribly and blamed for the issue. It was abusive. Absolutely terrible experience. Weeks of wasted time and money dealing with this company.
