Billing and Policies Need Compassion

I purchased a GrandPad and annual plan for my father, who was struggling with advanced Parkinson’s and dementia and passed away in December 2025. I notified GrandPad in January 2026 of his death and my intent to cancel the service. Despite this, the company continued billing for two months until the account was formally closed in March, citing a policy requiring the device to be returned before prorating. At the time, our family was out of state, grieving, handling funeral arrangements, and caring for three young children, so it understandably took time to locate and return the device.

Even though it was clear the device was no longer in use, GrandPad initially continued billing and would not backdate the prorated refund to the date of notification despite multiple attempts to communicate our situation with their billing team. This added unnecessary stress during an already devastating time, and I found the policy and its initial application callous and disturbing in the context of end-of-life circumstances.

UPDATE: After posting this review and filing a BBB complaint, I had a constructive conversation with a representative from GrandPad. They issued a full refund back to January as requested and shared that they plan to internally review their cancellation policy for deceased customers, particularly in situations where families may be out of state. I appreciate that they ultimately made this right, were willing to listen and engage thoughtfully, and expressed a genuine desire to learn and grow from this experience.

While I wish the issue could have been resolved earlier in the process, I am encouraged by their responsiveness and openness to feedback. My hope is that this leads to more flexibility and compassion in similar situations moving forward. Administrative processes can have a significant impact on families during times of loss, and policies like this, and how they are applied, matter deeply. I remain hopeful that GrandPad will continue to align its practices with the needs of families during these vulnerable moments.

When I first gave my mom her GrandPad

When I first gave my mom her GrandPad, she wasn’t interested. She said she wasn’t “old enough” for something like that—she already had a cellphone and computer, and didn’t think she needed another device. But I encouraged her to just try it out.

Fast forward eight years, and she loves it. She no longer uses her computer, and her cellphone has become too confusing. The GrandPad is now her go-to for everything.

Her absolute favorite feature is the video calling—she especially enjoys seeing her brother and staying connected with family. She also loves looking through the photos we send of her grandkids and great-grandkids. It brings her so much joy and truly helps her feel close to everyone.

As the Family Administrator, I find it very easy to manage her GrandPad remotely. I can make changes online without needing to be at her house, which is incredibly helpful. And if there’s ever anything I can’t figure out, GrandPad’s support team is wonderful—every time I’ve called, the agent has understood exactly what I needed and made it easy.

The only hurdle we had was getting other family members to start using the companion app. Everyone meant to, but life got in the way. Once they started, though, they saw just how much it meant to Mom.

If you're looking for a way to simplify life for your older loved one while helping them feel connected and supported, I can’t recommend GrandPad enough. It’s been a blessing for our whole family.

My Mom had her GrandPad for 8 years!

My Mom had her GrandPad for 8 years and loved it so she never went anywhere without it! She was able to stay connected with our very large family through pictures, video calls and messages and was so happy to keep up with all of our lives even though she couldn’t always be with us. She also loved playing the games on her GrandPad. I feel all seniors would benefit from having a GrandPad!!

Every senior with someone to talk to…

Every senior with someone to talk to should have a GrandPad. My 88 year-old father cannot operate a smart phone. But, the GrandPad by Consumer Cellular is so easy to navigate that we talk by video nearly everyday.
Customer Service is available by pushing one button and they are open and patient to aid any senior or family member 24/7.
My dad's face lights up when he answers and I feel better being able to see him and his surroundings without flying 2,500 miles North to see him. I still do, though, and often.
Thanks GrandPad
