Best Vehicle GPS Service

Our company has several dozen vehicles on the GPS Insight system. We've tried other services and feel GPS Insight's mapping, mobile app, and software are superior. When we need assistance, customer service and tech support have been responsive (and U.S.-based).

Platform/Service

When utilizing this platform, I have found it to be very easy to navigate. Whenever there have been issues, the troubleshooting team is quick to respond with answers. One month where an issue arose that knocked out a few of our reporting devices; the Rhino team credited our account to offset the discrepancy- this was much appreciated.

I would NOT recommend GPS Insight to…

I would NOT recommend GPS Insight to anyone for many reasons. First and foremost, the lack of communication with their customers is unbelievable. I call and call, but I cannot speak to a representative. I leave a voicemail and pray for a return call that may or may not come. Forget about email. If I get an email response within a week, I consider that a “win.” Second, I’ve been trying since August to resolve issues with equipment. This is December. When I was told I had to pay to replace units that went out due to technological failure on the part of GPS Insight, I knew it was time to find coverage elsewhere. Third, canceling service with this company is a nightmare. I am thankful that I DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. I continue to receive invoices for rental units I returned AND they (acknowledged they) received 2 months ago. I sent shipping tracking numbers 4 TIMES to ensure they didn’t charge my card (on file) for units I returned. However, they did charge my card (on file) for units I returned. After I reported fraud to my bank, they finally refunded those charges last month. Today, I received yet another invoice for the units I returned to GPS Insight 2 months ago. I find this entire situation extremely frustrating and just plain sad. Initially, the service from GPS Insight was great. In fact, I was a customer for nearly 5 years. However, I have discovered there are many companies with much better customer service. Do yourself a favor and use one of them instead of GPS Insight, unless you have unlimited, free time to deal with their poor customer service department and ridiculous accounting department.

Edit to add: After posting this someone from GPS Insight did call me, I hate that it took posting to a public forum for a call back. She has promised that the invoice in question has been taken off my account.

If I could rate them a zero

If I could rate them a zero, I would. First, their customer service is horrendous. Not just horrible, horrendous. I don't know what the appropriate response time is or should be but if you expect anything in less than days, good luck. Simple tasks go unanswered all of the time. Cc'ing managers means nothing. Having zoom calls to discuss issues, pointless. Many of their cameras / GPS bundles we have in our trucks are failing and when cases are opened to fix the issue and replace they lie open for weeks. They use a 3rd party installer who has left trucks running and all doors open after installation. We pay a specific "bonus" to our drivers with a score of 850 or higher. This system will ding our drivers for stop signs with "except right turns" as if they are running a stop sign. You have to manually go in & reject every single event. It flags them for a Uturn when they are in a roundabout, again you have to manually reject them for it not to effect their score. I have to believe after them telling me that 50% of their customers do an incentive that companies are blindly paying and or not paying when they should be due to the issues that I have just mentioned. We are now tracking all of the cases due to lack of response / action because it was near impossible to keep up with the many that are open. You have 2 different portals to manage (& I mean YOU are the ones who will manage.) The end user / customer does ALL of the work. After installation you have to go in to each of the portals and enter all of the driver information in, hierarchies if there are any, create groups for visibility etc. For one driver alone it takes time to get everything correct.
Their pricing is absurd for the total package that you get. I would strongly advise you to look elsewhere. I have talked to like companies in our industry and done the same. You can have a crap product and excellent customer service and at least it makes it look as if you're trying to make it right. They have neither & do not deserve your business.

Crooks

I have been a Rhino customer since before they were bought out by GPS Insight. Since GPS Insight bought them out, the customer service and billing has gone out the window. They charge whatever the want whenever they want. They changed their warranty and their customer service is horrible. Ultimately, we cancelled our services and went with another company because I do not have the time to argue with them. Now, after I have canceled and am owed a refund, they are continuing to charge my card on file. I have had to dispute the charge with my bank yet they are still charging me every other week. I am writing this review in hopes that this gets through to someone that can actually help me. I have gotten my bank involved and informed them multiple times that I do not authorize further charges yet Rhino/GPS insight keeps fraudulently charging my card. Do not do business with this overpriced crooked company.

GPS Insight's ELD Connect: NOT Reliable

If I could give it zero stars, I would. I write of GPS Insight's ELD Connect. It's an ELD with its own "ruggedized" Tablet. As a truckdriver of 17 years experience, and who has used a straightforward phone app, an AOBRD, and three different ELD's before using ELD Connect, I find this ELD inexcusably defective.

Currently, I drive for a mover.

Let's begin with Editing and Annotating Driver-initiated logging events. ELD Connect is needlessly complicated and does NOT work for all Driver-initiated events. This makes it impossible for a Driver to keep a true, accurate, and CLEAR & COMPLETE record of his activities vis-a-vis the Truck. This is unacceptable and inexcusable.

Then there is editing Location. I understand perfectly that no ELD can have a complete database of every Locale listed for both the U.S. and Canada. That would make any ELD prohibitively bulky and prohibitively expensive. This is all the more reason for a Driver to have complete discretion in editing Location in all Driver-inititated events. While "80 miles south of Las Vegas, NM" and "2 miles east-southeast of Edgewater, NJ" are demonstrably true and accurate, allowing the Driver to edit these Locations to "Santa Rosa, NM" and "Bronx, NY" respectively makes the log pages not only true & accurate, they make the entries CLEAR & UNDERSTANDABLE to Driver, Motor Carrier, and truck-enforcement inspector. This lack of editing discretion in GPS Insight's ELD Connect is itself inexcusable.

Then there is the very unstable, unreliable link-up to the Truck's Engine from the Tablet. This defining aspect of ELD Connect frequently fails. This linkage failure is traceable to the program not booting up properly and a certain part of it partially or not booting up at all.

"CalAmp Mobile Framework" --the sub-program that links Tablet to Truck frequently fails to boot, thus forcing the Driver to reboot the Tablet, and if the Link or the Framework still fails, thus also forcing the Driver to execute multiple attempts to boot-up the "CalAmp Mobile Framework". A whole lot of time is consumed while waiting for the Framework to boot correctly and the Tablet to link properly with the Truck ("LMU Connected"). After the prolonged drama of linking the Tablet to the Truck, the Driver is forced to look at the Screen longer than he looks at the parking lot, while driving the truck faster than 5 miles-per-hour to make sure the ELD is logging actual Drivetime. This scenario is a dangerous setup for a Driver trying to depart a crowded & chaotic situation.

The Link-up has also failed on me twice when the truck went on the road --once when I was driving solo, the second time, it happened to my trainee while he was driving. This glaring failure is truly unacceptable for an ELD. It is truly inexcusable.

Unstable link-ups from ELD to Trucks' engines has NEVER been an issue in the ELD's I've previously used, nor in the AOBRD I have used.

The User Interface between ELD and the Driver is not merely UN-intuitive, it is user-hostile. An ELD should be readily usable by the Driver without long-readings of instruction manuals. How many of us have used an instruction manual to turn a car's steering wheel or start its engine ? Mostly none of us. The same should be for any ELD. Again, inexcusable.

The apathetic effort is clearly reflected in writing and building the ELD program. It's clearly seen in the evidence of it being poorly tested or not tested at all. I would prefer to use a far more colourful phrase for this effort, but review guidelines constrain me from using that phrase that begins with the word, "half."

In total, GPS Insight's ELD Connect has proven itself unreliable for both Driver and Motor Carrier. It is only a matter of "WHEN", not "if", that Drivers will get in trouble because of this defective ELD. And when that happens, the Motor Carriers that installed this on their trucks will themselves get in trouble as well.

This ELD is not worth even one star as a rating.

Good company and customer service is…

Good company and customer service is great. I firmly believe in telematics and believe it can provide a great resource for companies and other organizations in regard to their vehicles. The cost is worth the investment for the information you receive.
