DISSATISFIED LONG-TIME CUSTOMER

I put in a claim for a covered item, a Hot Water Circulating Pump. I paid the service call fee and expected to get it replaced (it failed) since I have the top-of -the line Plan with First American. The first contractor gave up and I was assigned a new contractor. That contractor went back and forth with your company and I was finally informed after more than 2 months of waiting for action that I would need to accept a frankly insulting buy-out amount of $42 for a $500-$750 system or purchase the system myself and have First American pay the contractor to put it in! I have 8 contracts on different properties I own, over many years of hard work, and I felt that my loyalty, never mind my personal funds were disregarded. This treatment of a customer is reprehensible and particularly so because I am in my 80's and handicapped and can no longer handle repairs by myself. This is why I purchased plans with First American to give me peace of mind. I must say that each of the reps to whom I have spoken (and there were a number of them) were very respectful and sympathetic, even though their efforts did not resolve the issue satisfactorily. I have spent hours of my time trying to resolve this issue and I am simply not satisfied with the choices I have had to make!

Coverage was not what was promised

I signed the warranty contract after explaining that I had a beverage refrigerator that I wanted to have under the policy. I sent them pictures and model numbers, as well as details on where I bought it. I was told it would require the premium tier of coverage and I agreed. I paid extra each month for this coverage. The unit needs repair work done, and they have decided that they don't coverage such a fridge anymore. We argued a few times and I canceled my contract. Outside of this appliance getting denied with no explanation, I had other problems with them over the years. They hire the cheapest, lowest quality repairmen that they can, and it shows in the final results. FAHW is slow to answer inquiries, and does not seem to care when customers are waiting for repairs to be completed. Test this for yourself - call the customer service number to ask a question and see how long the wait is. if you get a voice mailbox, you will wait days to weeks for a response. My advice is to put the money you would pay them each month into a bank account and discipline yourself to leave it alone until you need a repair. It works.

Evaluate Your Third-Party Service Providers!

We have had Aurora Appliance Repair Inc. come out to service our microwave, gas stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher within our first year of owning our home. The first three appliances were relatively minor repairs, and each service call cost us $95.

Our KitchenAid dishwasher, however, really put the service process to the test — and unfortunately, this is where our experience became frustrating.

Here is the timeline:

6/12: Service ticket requested for a leaking dishwasher that wasn't cleaning properly.
6/18: Technician came out and determined the motherboard needed to be replaced.
7/1: Motherboard was installed.
7/6: We contacted the third-party company because the dishwasher still wasn't drying. We were told they could not reopen the ticket, so we had to submit another request online through First American Home Warranty.
7/10: Third-party company ordered another part.
7/15: The additional part was installed.
7/27: Dishwasher still wasn't drying.

At this point, we delayed contacting First American again. When we did, we were told the original ticket could no longer be reopened because it was more than 30 days after the service date. We would need to pay another $95 to have someone come back out.

We spoke with a manager, who explained that at that point it was essentially out of their hands unless we requested another service call. We were also told that First American relies on the third-party provider's recommendation regarding how an appliance should be repaired.

That raises a bigger question for me: Shouldn't there be some type of oversight when a third-party provider has made multiple visits to repair the same appliance and the problem still hasn't been resolved?

Aurora Appliance Repair is based in Denver, while we live in Loveland. Gas isn't cheap, and neither is the customer's time. We also went approximately a week without being able to use our dishwasher after the motherboard was installed because we were advised not to use it.

I don't know how much First American pays its third-party service providers, but from a customer perspective, it seems like a lot of money — and customer time — is being spent without actually resolving the problem.

And, like most people these days, I did a little research. I looked up Aurora Appliance Repair Inc. and found 242 reviews with a 1.3-star rating.

That really made me stop and ask: Why is First American continuing to use a third-party provider with such a poor customer rating?

Our concern isn't simply that an appliance needed multiple repairs. Appliances break. That's part of owning a home. Our concern is the lack of accountability and oversight when the same repair continues to fail.

First American Home Warranty should have a process that flags repeated service calls for the same appliance, especially when multiple parts have been replaced and the issue remains unresolved. At some point, there should be additional review, escalation, or consideration of replacing the appliance rather than simply starting the $95 service-call cycle over again.

We have been happy with some aspects of First American, but this experience has made us question how third-party service providers are evaluated and monitored. If you're going to outsource the service, there should still be accountability for the quality of that service.

Needless to say, our renewal is coming up this month, and we will not be use you again.

From day 1 it has been a story of hurry up and wait. The HVAC took 3 month in the winter to get replaced. I jhave had mulitple visits on appliances. The last problem is laughable. The repair company says they dont know how to fix the problem yet FAHW wont pull the trigger to replace the appliance.

They take your money up front then with each service call but results are less than reasonable.

You have to escalate the problem out of customer service and even then nothing happens

The plumber was friendly and professional. But first American refused to let the plumber fix my pop up mechanism in my bathroom sink. I pay $1000 for this warranty but you don’t cover something so simple. I had to pay s lot of money out of pocket to get the pop up fixed.

UNACCEPTABLE

First and foremost, we have been a member of this company for over 3 years. Over the course of these 3 years, their services have went from bad to worse. We have had our A/C unit serviced over 5 times in the past year. Most recently, around 3 and a half weeks ago we had to have it serviced again, left the next day for vacation and came home to my dogs laying out on the floor exhausted from heat. It failed again. How many more times does it have to fail, before someone does something?

Just Beginning!

I am only beginning my Warranty with this Company. But, if the process for obtaining warranty work is as pleasant of an experience as I just had with a lady named Chase whom answered all my questions about obtaining a contract with this company, I will be extremely pleased. Chase was very courteous, knowledgeable and friendly not whatsoever pushy which is what I like.

⭐ 1 STAR

⭐ 1 STAR — Same Claim, Two Different Reasons for Denial

First American Home Warranty denied my refrigerator claim twice, using two materially different explanations.

The first denial said the failure was related to a manufacturer/design defect. After I challenged that determination and requested supporting evidence, they obtained a second evaluation.

Then the reason changed. The second denial claimed foreign material/possible pest activity contributed to an electrical short and cited a pest-damage exclusion.

If the first denial was supported by evidence, why did the cause of failure change after I challenged it?

I have both written denial determinations and have submitted the matter through the appropriate regulatory complaint process.

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend First American Home Warranty.
